Any chance any of those are the new ones that have the graphene in them?

To be honest i'm not exactly sure. They want me to hit them and report my results without have any preconceived ideas. Only thing i really know is the flex/cpm.

Modena does I believe

I know they have graphene and were testing it in shafts but found it had more of an effect on feel and not really on performance unless you wanted to create a 20g driver shaft. From everything i've heard so far it seems it will have more effect in head design and lowering COG then golf shafts. We shall see i guess. For all i know these shafts have graphene or maybe none of all based on testing. I"m sure i'll find out in time.

Some of the best shafts on the planet. Veylix Rome 888 has been the best fairway wood shaft I've ever owned. Curious to see how the F9 Modena and Veylix 888 compare.

Lol I like the sticker on the shafts hahaha. Tiger has been missing everything in the 8-10 range. Be interesting to see where he goes from here. I don’t see him switching out though.

I think if the short irons are smaller than the 765s they will be hard for me to resist. I loved the 765 long irons, but the short irons were shovels.

785’s look better than the 765’s to me. The toe doesn’t look quite as bulbous on the 785 compared to the 765.

I'm looking forward to the review. You seem to have a very logical approach to balancing out what looks good and what you like to what the numbers are. Waiting on some time to get fitted but overall feel like I'll pull the trigger once I do!

I appreciate that and yes I try to be objective. I'm kind of at the stage in my life where i don't care if i get something for free or I pay full freight. I enjoy testing clubs but not much makes my bag. People at my club accuse me of always switching but i've been playing the same irons for 3 seasons, wedges over a year, putter for a year, ball 3-4 years, and driver for a year. If something is truly better I will play it, if not its off to a new home.

New and shiny toys are always exciting to try but i'm more interested in how the club performs once that shine wears off.

785 look crispy :)

They made some nice improvements and definitely went back to the 745 look which makes sense. If it ever stops raining here in Maryland I'll actually play my last round with them. As of now from top predictions for next year are either these, another set of 745's, or Mizuno MP18 SC/MMC combo set. Mizuno testing is also happening soon :diablo:

Do yourself a favor if you are going to test Mizuno, hit the new 919T. My MMC/MB combo moved to backup status quickly. They packaged it all together in this one.

I'll give them a look but i'm interested in more forgiving irons nowadays. Im really attracted to a players profile, minimal offset, and added forgiveness. Super small irons just make my life harder and the previous jpx tour's looked stellar but I couldn't hit them consistently enough to win me money on the weekends :D But i will try the 919's maybe I'll like them more. :miz:

Finally played my last round and compared them head to head with the 745's on course. Like most of my reviews nowadays I"m going to keep it short and concise and if people have questions they can ask or pm me.

Let me start by saying that after 2 sets of 745's it truly saddens me to retire them. My current set is browning and i'm losing the grooves which is really becoming noticeable in shots from the rough. Whenever i play irons for a season or two I know the end is near when my distances start to increase from lack of spin. I also want to mention I did not like the 765's which is why i never upgraded. In fact at the PGA show a few years ago (when they launched the 765's) I had lunch with some members of the Srixon team. I told them the 745's are in my bag and I love them but they went in a more GI direction with offset and blade length which were two no, no's for me. They were surprised by my comments but I think appreciated the honesty. In any case it turned out the Tour players agreed with me and didn't switch either.

Okay review: :superman:

Look at address : 785's win

Feel : 745's (but i'll admit this could be because of shafts)

Topline - 785's a little thinner which is a nice improvement

Distance - irrelevant / same

spin - I see no difference

Sole - Noticeably thinner -785 with v sole

Toe - 745 smaller less "pregnant"

Blade length - 745 smaller

545 vs 585 I"m not going to do a breakdown because they literally look like the same iron. Maybe i wasn't looking hard enough but they look the same, feel the same, perform the same.

Srixon did a nice job with the "85" line. The 785's are a step back in the right direction and look a lot like the 745's with a slightly longer heel to toe length. I didn't measure, but if the 745 and 765 had a baby it would be the 785. Feel wise the 745 wins out for me but maybe that's because they have the Nippon Modus shaft while the 785's had DG X100's. Hard to say here but the 745's are butter. Both topline and sole in the 785's are thinner while still maintaining that great v sole grind that Srixon irons are known for. I personally love it, especially in the wet conditions i typically play in the Northeast of the U.S. When it comes to spin and distance I didn't notice any significant difference so it's really not worth going into any detail.

Overall I think Srixon did a great job but i'm not sure i'm convinced at this point. I like the slightly thinner top line but the thinner sole didn't do me any favors in really wet conditions. Now, it has rained 25 out of the last 30 days (not kidding) so take that for what it's worth. Blade length is better then the 65's but still a little long for me.

Conclusion : I liked the 785's but not enough to prevent me from testing a few other sets and most likely wait for the PGA show to see what's coming out next spring. If i had to pull the trigger on a set of irons right now it would be a new set of 745's (which would be my 3rd set btw), 785's, or Mizuno SC/mmc combo set.

You hit the 919T? Getting fit for them tomorrow.

Not yet, the shop around me didn't get them in yet so maybe i'll swing by tomorrow to see if they have them. Usually Mizuno is good about getting demo stuff out before the release but this time around that wasn't the case. I'll be interested to hear about your fitting.

Hey J, thanks for the quick rundown on the 785.

Just curious if you played the 718 AP2's at all, and if so how they compare in the look departments, and forgiveness?

I read somewhere that Srixon will not release a 985 series this go around, so the short irons are supposed to be somewhere between the 765 and 795 in terms of size.

Do the 785 short irons seem smaller/more compact compared to the 765 short irons?

Didn't play the AP2's but i like them a lot. Ap2's have a thinner topline then 785's and are slightly smaller in overall size (Not by much though). Forgiveness wise I would say the Srixon's are going to be the best as MOI has to be higher with the slightly larger size and slightly thicker perimeter weighting. Best part is both look great from address and have the same players offset so it comes down to what shape you like better.
