Took on a fun project refinishing a set of#Mizuno MP68 irons. A local company bead blasted them for me to go from shiny chrome to satin and to remove paint fill. Will do my own paint fill and get them reshafted soon - fun project that will add another depth of enjoyment to the game. Not too important to anyone but me, but this sort of tinkering makes me happy and keeps my mind fresh.

You guys are not going to believe this. Today in the bins I found a set of forged Muirfields 4 thru 9 iron the wedge was missing but I found a M-85 PW that apparently someone played with that set and to boot a 20th Ann edition SW. The irons were not 20th editions--- That is now 3 sets of Muirfields I own none of the 20th versions

I just put this set of Scott SG-03 blacks together with some recoil proto 110 F4's, Pure dtx and BB&F ferrules. I couldn't be happier with how these play. I think I may finally be done experimenting with irons, atleast for a while.

Beautiful--- I have only seen one set of Scott irons in person--- This kid that was going to one of the PGM schools had a set. I played 18 with him. His were satin finish. Amazed him that a guy my age could still hit VIP blades.

Lazarus here lol......

I will keep it short. My back was super bad, I had an MRI and whatnot, say surgeon, basically eventually I need to have fake discs put in and they go through your stomach which sounds super intrusive and I was really put off by it, but I have heard it is a lot safer than anything from the backside cause of spinal chords and whatnot.....it literally took from the last time I posted here until about 3 weeks ago for my back to be happy again. Trying to drop about 15 pounds and excersise, surgeon says I can't really hurt my by playing, but if it is yelling at me don't do it (see golfing.....)

Anyway, I had a bit much to drink at a fishing tournament and got into a cash wedge chipping contest and it was first time I hit balls in months, hit a bunch of full wedges, didn't feel great that night....did it again the next evening, a lot more sober and controlled and wasn't bad....sooooo I think I am going to dip my toes back into the water...with the sim in garage, I think mat hitting 2 rounds 3+ nights a week for 3 months and ignoring any tightness after warming up some was probably overdoing it, so I am going to try to work on wedges and 7-9 for the next month moderately and try a different approach. I think that while my backswing is short as heck from back, I still really move through and have a disproportionately long follow through from the speed and maybe that is not best. Going to tinker with what my back likes best more than results and go from there to try to see if I can score well enough to have fun. In theory since putting is my strongsuit, if I can find a happy shorter and straighter game without any hero shots of big irons or swipes with woods it may suit me better to score ok anyway. Starting at square 1 for like the 3rd time in 5 years is not too much fun mentally, but I have a true positive no expectations approach this time as my body problems are very real and goal has shifted from results to just being able to enjoy playing. I just don't want to hang it up yet. We shall see....

Anyone bead blasted their blades to go from shiny to satin?

I have never had a set bead blasted but have done it poor man's style by soaking in vinegar and hitting it several times with a Scotchbrite pad. Just did a Cleveland 45 Special that way. That thing was too darn shiny and I could not stand the glare. Granted my method does not look as good as a real bead blast job

Man please be careful and do not screw up your back permanently. I have had to take it easy for a while and was hitting those graphite shafted KZGs. Now last Sunday I played in a benefit and played my 54 Hogan Precisions and experienced no back pain at all. I was going to try my VIPs with the Apex shafts tomorrow but I am going to try the Muirfields I found today they have black labeled dynamic "R" shafts so I think I will be ok--- But my back is no where messed up as what you told us on yours--- But again please please be careful

Yeah, I got a good scare this time, I won't. I am dumb but not stupid....? Maybe lol....

I may end up really trying to make a graphite blade set this summer, but I don't think that the shaft is my issue, I think it is twisting and impact and from what I read shafts are more arm and joint than lower back aids...still, a sick set of blades on graphite and an old man with bad back excuse to game them sounds cool in my mind....

They are good clubs, not $2200 good. I paid $1200 and can't even get an offer for them on BST for $300 with over $300 in grips and shafts installed.

I agree with that statement. There are deals to be had on slightly used clubs. I went into it thinking if I lost a hundred bucks i'd be ok with it. I would think the heads are worth $300 all day. The issue I think is the few reviews found all sound like an infomercial and the price on his website is more than a lot of people are willing to spend.

I would have to agree with both of you on the heads being worth $300 or more. What the problem is most mainstream golfers even on here are not familiar with Scott heads or any JDM offerings other than maybe Miura or Mizuno.

He's alive! ALIVE!

Good to hear you're OK, and that your back is on the mend. Don't rush it, but conversely don't do nothing and let your back freeze up.

I'm curious to hear how a fishing competition turned into a pitching competition. I don't normally pack my golf clubs when I am going fishing, though I have been known to fish my ball from the water when golfing.

Thanks guys!

So zero to 60 on the HO train. Of course I have not been ignoring all the emails since January on my proxy site lowering commission and I looked on yahoo auction last night for first time since summer....I could have spent $800 then remembered not sure if I can play still hahaha......BUT.....there is a set of golds factory blades(Kyoei I am almost sure, same ones I had and should have never sold sans the 7-8 transition I hated but probably overthought) for a bargain, AND a set of pulled roddio I-10 shafts at an expensive but fair price of about $450....I seriously almost bought both with the intention of having irons stripped, refinishing iron dings myself, then having them copper plated and shaft up.......This golf thing is like I quite quit smoking crack and took a hit and now am full on junkie again overnight...

Instead I am going to start with the balls tonight. To be clear, it isn't like I am feeble or will break my spine, but if I get inflammation, it takes days to pass, and it is the constant over inflaming the nerves that are not where they are supposed to be over the course of months to end up like I was, and more than golf to blame.....Or so I believe based on actual doctor convos. So I think I can find a way to do this and just not overdo it. I am thinking 60-80 70% balls tonight and 3 days off and see how that goes and repeat. I also think it isn't volume of swings, but those 3-5 hard/bad form ones a round that really Do the most damage.

Definitely building a graphite blades set that will be sick as hell tho. I am partial to the roddio shafts so I will probably bite that bullet as I know I get along with them and they act most like steel. Not sure on heads, but they will be off the wall for sure cause boring if not. I am going to ebay a bunch of stuff golf and not to fund it or mostly fund it, but not sure I am going to sell any putters over it as tempting as moving a couple putters to get going right away sounds.

Or I could just buy these now.....

For that brand, and 4i included, that's not a bad starting price.

Yup. Exactly. Price is almost too good for Jean B stuff. They price those sets so ridiculous high, its almost cheaper to try the counterfeits on Ali before chunking down 3000 US.

Whoa whoa, what happened here, NCN has a new rival???, No Fancy Username!!!!! Hahahahaha

Meh, I don’t think they are that gross, gaudy as hell, but really I don’t want another set of super clean understated blades, so I want something out there. The R flex may not be bad with my focus on tempo, I am also of the thought I could play R-X. Not sure if that is like golf version of being a flat earther, but I know there is a small following to that theory. If I was near ready I would seriously put in a low bid and see if anyone else bids or not on them. BUT...Wife caught me on yahoo auction last night, it would have been better if I was on pornhub, comments about back and wasting money were made hahaha....

As far as graphite, I was highly skeptical about graphite in wedges as my previous wedges had x100, but I am More accurate with these and they feel perfect to me. unlike ike irons. I like wedges feeling super soft and delicate, and these are that in spades. Knock downs, high flops, truly they are indistinguishable from steel. I think there is cheaper graphite and then good and better weighted graphite.

Last night went well, fingers crossed woke up with no inflammation and I hit about 80 gap/9/7 irons in total. On a depressing note, if you removed the 10 hosel rockets, I was as accurate or better than when playing all the time. I think I hit 12 greens in a row save for one shank (it is a small green on my Sim range) with 9 iron. And distance didnt seem to drop much despite effort to be smooth and slow. Even had some 7s go out 175 range on accident just trying to be smooth and deliberate. Smooth and posture posture posture I think is the needed mantra....need to really work on sticking my butt out or that feeling of forcing it out, my back seems to like swinging a lot more like that than with my sorta lazy normal posture.

FWIW, we have different issues BUT:

Both my Z945's and Mizuno MMC's (maybe not considered a blade?) feel amazing with my Recoil shafts and my whole body feels better! To be brief, after (in the surgeons words "catastrophic trauma") going 90 feet over a car off of a motorcycle and landing arms and head first, I was told that I only had a limited number of miles in my arms and neck left, so use them wisely. I believe graphite is getting the most mileage out of what I have and nothing on my body hurts as much as when I try to play a steel shaft!

Lots going down today! Everyone take care of your back! Lose some weight, do ab exercises and cut down on the booze. But, don't stop hoing!

So, I worked all day and I knew the MS203s I bought would be arriving while my wife was there. When I came home they were leaning against the wall and I didn't touch the box, went inside, played with my daughter for a few hours, made dinner and did the dishes. My dear wife didn't say anything. Maybe she's angry, but she's probably just tired. Next daughter is due in just over a month.

As for the sticks - Really, really impressed. Pristine for an early 90s forged stick. Slightly longer blade length than the TN87 (shown in the pics). Also, has a slightly longer hosel. Loving the satin finish. Loving the paint in the grooves - retro as heck. They have DGs200 which I have played really well with in the past. Can't wait to hit them tomorrow.

There's a Mrs. story I've mentioned before in another thread. But seems apropos here. A few years back, acquired new used set of irons. Stuck them in the bag forthwith and didn't say anything about them to the Mrs. Couple of months go by and her and I are out for a Sunday swat around. She finally notices the irons and asks..."When did you get those?" Me..."Awhile back, a few weeks." She goes ballistic. "Why did you feel the need to hide them from me?" Me..."Well, er, em, wasn't hiding them, just didn't mention it." Her..."You know what I mean. Don't EVER pull that shizzle with me again". Me..."Ah, sorry. Won't happen again dear." There was no laughter, she was P.O.'d

I learned my lesson big time. I now make a big announcement of everything golf related that comes in the door. And conversely, everything that gets shipped out. She doesn't care what golf implements I may churn through. As long as the acquisition(s) doesn't show up on any account ledgers. (Why I have my private PayPal slush fund). And she pays zero attention to the pile of clubs downstairs, as long as said pile doesn't encroach into her area of the basement. Bags are bags far as she's concerned. Plus, I make sure that all her golfing necessities are appropriately taken care of.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

I went out for a round with the MP4s in the bag today, 5-PW. I took the 4i out for a 9w because the ground was soaking wet--most fairways were so waterlogged it was impossible to avoid a bit of casual water.

The first hole is a par 5, reachable in two for me. I hit a good drive, and was supposedly left with about 220~230. I thought I would lay up to the front with a 9w...beautiful strike, but it soared away left, probably out of bounds. Drop a provisional and rehit and it's good. When I get up there, I'm surprised to see my second a few yards off the left edge (first was OB). Either that yardage marker was wrong, or there was lots of wind behind high up. because there's no way my 9w goes 230 yards. Anyway, I a chip on with a 6i, and BAM! I hole out for a par!

I hit the irons well today, apart from a pulled PW on a par 3 and a thin 9i from a tough lie (downhill and ball below feet). I think I prefer the MP4s to the MP18s. Better feel and thinner top line.

My two problems aren't iron-related: putting and chipping. My putting is dreadful, and my chipping is mediocre at best.
