SNELL GOLF BALLS??? anyone???

Sorry, that was a tasteless joke attempt.

I just don't know why people like to act as though that TP Red LDP was the best golf ball that could ever be created and nothing can possibly match it.

It's been deleted. My bad.

the LDP Red was a great golf ball when it was in production, proven fact...but nothing was ever said that the MTB Red cant be an even better ball...

Just got my reds heading over to the course to try them out around the practice green shortly. The ball definetly has a different look with the new cover.

I just noticed the Reds are whiter/brighter than the Blacks or original MTB, though you’d probably never notice unless side by side in the right light. And I knew the dimple counts were different, but the patterns are considerably different too. I can’t find the “seam” on the Reds, you can on the other two. I can’t wait to try them both, but there’s more than a foot of snow on the ground here with more coming...sigh.

I might not be the best judge, I'm deaf in one hear, they say feel is mostly sound. I thought the 2 balls, Red and MTB, felt and performed very similar around the greens and with the putter. There might be a little bit more thud and less click with the red but you really have to look for it. I'll post my experience after play the red for 18 tomorrow. The reds are noticeably more white than the MTB, both brand new. I was trying to do a blind test but I could easily tell one from the other, without having to look at the dimple patterns.

Got my reds today and did a short test as we got 9 in, but really poor conditions out there, playing 18 tomorrow with the Red on a more southern course so conditions will be better. Initial thoughts are these are great off the driver, definitely spin more with short irons and wedges, and off the putter it was nice. I don’t know about the new cover look, as mentioned above it’s definitely different than the MTB. I will probably be going with the Black this year, not giving up on the Red, but I do like the look of the MTB and want to stick with that look. Packaging is top notch, great job Snell Team!

Played the red today, wow it definitely spins more on approach shots. I’m not one to see the ball spin back on approach shots but today most came back 5-10ft I spun a 7 iron back 12 ft. I might have just had a good ball striking day but never have had that many balls react like that in a round. I had 5 birds today another unusually high number I’m a 1 or 2 around kind of player. Off the tee it appeared to be 2-3 yards longer for me judging my shots compared to my playing partner which I play a lot with. After one round I’m very impressed with this ball it’s to a T what Dean has said. An added plus for me was it played very similar around the greens and putting. It was a lot of fun today playing this ball and watching it react on approach shots can’t wait to get out again!

An early request (some may not like it) for a 3 piece non urethane ball. I know I can't fully take advantage of the urethane ball so why not see if something like this is in any future plans.

Not sure if you’ve tried the 2pc GET SUM, but it is a great non urethane ball.

I have it's not bad, figured I'd ask if he'd make a 3 piece non urethane...............never hurts to ask

Plus it doesn't seem anybody or very few here use them as a primary option when they play.

I’m assuming the colors look different due to the fact that the Reds use a TPU cover and the OGs used cast. Probably why there isn’t a seam seen on these as well.

The two covers have a slightly different look for a couple of reasons.. one, they are a different urethane material, where one is pigmented color into the cover itself with clear coats of paint, and the other is pigmented in the paint with two white coats and one clear over the white coats... just different processes to make them, which will give them a different look... both are urethane covers, developed to meet the performance specs we wanted to achieve...

I think the TPU cover on the red looks great, held up well after 18 holes too.

I've been using MTBs for over 2 years now. One of my big requests was more spin around the greens. So I bought a bunch of reds.

After 3 full rounds:

They absolutely spin more with the lower irons and wedges. It's noticeable to me because I was so familiar with the original Snells which I could spin back some on full shots, but I was looking for more check with pitches. They are "shinier" than the Blacks which will take a little getting used to. They are soft in both feel and sound with the short game. These are my new balls. Thank you, Dean!

How about on the tee compare to the old one

I was hoping some guys could help me out a bit. I've been along time Prov1/X player bouncing back and forth, and was fitted into the new current Pro V1 (lower overall spin and lower launching flight).

With that being said I just want to make sure I understand the new Snell line.

NEW BLACK:

-slightly less spin off the driver (compared to original MTB) and spins less on short irons vs Red

RED:

-Same off the driver? (same launch and spin) but more spin in short irons

Is this correct? I'm really interested in launch vs. these 2. Does the Red launch slightly higher/lower do to more spin? Does one spin less of the driver? Since the Red spins more than the black in short irons, does that mean around the greens the Red spins more than the Black?

I realize driver characteristics are usually the last thing to look at when considering a ball but curious how the 2 compare in launch/spin (also I thought the Black's weren't out to March 1st).

Thanks for any and all input!!!!!

I think you've correctly hit on most of the aspects of these two balls, but I do believe the red will have a slightly higher launch. Someone else please let me know if this is not correct.

I have enough trouble worrying about how far the ball is going forward to add to that by having to worry about how much it is going to back up once it gets there. I've never understood the enamor of backspin. It should never be the goal but the byproduct of a perfectly struck shot. Give me "drop and stop" any day.
