SNELL GOLF BALLS??? anyone???

I also got my test pack. The red is def louder. I also noticed the balls covers look very different. The MTB Red cover is like a bright white, looks really cheap compared to the black which has the look of your typical urethane covered ball. Anyone else notice this? I wish I'd have gone all black, but that's what a test pack is for!

The red and black have different cover technology which determines how they have to coat/paint each ball. The blacks have two coats of clear coat with white pigment, whereas the red have two coats of clear coat with no white pigment. The reds are soooo good

I am also developing a new paint system for the RED to improve on the color/look... samples due in this week, so hopefully after testing we will be ready to transition over.. but as the video states, two different processes and two completely different paint systems will give a different look...

 

I like the look of cast urethane. For me, it looks legit urethane.

I played nine holes with each ball today. Not being a player who relies on spin around the green I really anticpated the Black being a better fit for me.

 

Black was good, nice feel, decent distance. A very good, solid ball. It didn't wow me by any means, but I also wouldn't hesitate to play it as my regular ball.

 

Put the red in play on #10. Very impressed. Very solid feel, not as soft as black, but not hard. It seems longer than black to me also.

 

I'll try both again next time out, but for now, Red is my favorite.

i played 18 by myself today with both the red and black side by side on many shots. I like the black better i think. It was cold and very windy.

I felt like the black was just a little longer off the driver but they were pretty close. On multiple occasions both well and poorly struck mid-long irons and hybrid shots the blacks traveled further. i also felt it had the right amount of spin on full iron shots but it was pretty wet today. The red spun better from 100 in. Some of the pitch shots rolled out more than i expected with the black but i haven't been hitting those that well lately.

I think they are pretty close to each other with the red spinning more on iron shots.

For today, the black seemed to have the perfect amount for my game. thankfully i only lost one of each so I can test more when warmer/dryer

Im not sure if i like either better than the original MTB yet.

The red is the first ball I've found that is close to the b330s as far as short game spin. For me the more spin the better. The black was ok but I wouldn't play it. Gave away my remaining sleeve.

Agree. It is less expensive than some and I'm sure it's fine, but why use it when you can almost always find closeout urethane balls for the same or less? I'd rather buy some 2013-14 Srixon Z series for $29 than send away for these.

haha.. love the comments.. we just finished an optic yellow urethane ball, they just came in and started to ship this week, and next project is being defined.. haha.. on a good note, anyone that ordered the MTB BLACK, those balls came in today, and we will begin to pack and ship orders tonight... so alittle earlier, so hopefully you will start to test and post reviews as well..

played today and compared the red and black to the b330s, chrome soft, and tp5x.

 

The red on average was longer than the rest of the balls, even the black, by about 5 yards on avg with one poke that I thought the black was longer but the red was 15 yards past.

 

The snells both flew higher than the bridgestone and taylormade and equal to the chrome soft. Spin was all a wash between them throughout the day.

 

On the last hole I hit every ball practically the same (straight) except the red was a high cut. It flew as far as the others and still passed them. The chrome soft and soft x and the regular tp5 have been my go to balls for the last year. before that I was a die hard b330s user. I think the bridgestone feels/sounds the best all around. the chrome soft is pretty much my bench mark ball as it has served me very well. The snells easily held up with the others and performed great. I still prefer the looks of the black over the red, and the feel is slightly better in the black, but the red was longer and held it's own in performance.

i played again today with the new black and reds. I shot a 40 on the front nine with the black (chunked an iron into a hazard) and a 34 on the back with the red. The back nine is a bit easier at this course but it was my personal best ever. I don't think the change in ball mattered as much as me playing better on the back.

The balls performed so similar that i don't know if there was a noticeable difference. i think the black may be a little longer off the tee but i hit some nice drives with both. it was chilly, windy and misting the whole back nine.

i have no trouble generating spin on full iron shots with the black or red. i think they performed very similar. Well struck iron shots with each stop next to the pitch mark on wet greens or backed up a bit. I usually don't have any trouble getting any ball to stop though. The red may fly a little bit higher

 

I played so well that I did not have to hit many chip shots which may be where the difference between the 2 balls will show up.

I gave a sleeve of the black and reds from my test pack to a friend that to try to convert him over to snell.

I guess I will need to order another test pack to see if either stands out.

 

Both went through into wind and handled crosswinds fine. Neither had any damage to the covers (the black was lost in a hazard on hole 8)

 

Great job on the balls. They both perform as well or better than anything else out there.

 

ETA: the reds are available on amazon prime. I believe the blacks are back ordered but should be available again soon. Maybe Dean can answer that. Once I decide on one, I will order a 6 pack directly from snell

Don't think it's a coincidence that Dean came from those companies and is well acquainted with a top quality ball and finish. Can't wait to try my test pack but expecting another foot of snow here outside Boston tomorrow (winter won't quit).

Got my boxes of Vice Pro Plus (Red) a couple weeks ago and have loved them. I'd heard they weren't super durable so I decided to experiment...

 

I pulled a brand new ball out of a sleeve and decided to use that ball until it became completely unusable or until I lost it. I ended up Playing 48 holes with the same ball before I hit it OB on a tight Par 4 during the 3rd round. Spin seemed to have dropped off some but hard to really tell as the greens around here are still a little hit and miss. Feel and distance did not seem to have changed.

You sure can, even if you are wrong in doing so.

 

If you've paid attention to the news you may notice there have been a record number of massive winter storms that have not only delayed your package, but a majority of packages and parcels coming out of the Northeast (where Snell is located) and the surrounded hubs that shipments go through, like in Tennessee. This is impacting UPS, FedEx, USPS and all other mail carriers delivery times. All Snell & co. can do is ship your product out on the date they are ready in the way you choose to have them shipped. I get that you want your goods because they are fantastic balls and I didn't want to wait for them to even finish production before I got mine.

 

For comparison purposes to anyone reading this statement about their shipping, I live in the south and got mine roughly 4-5 days from the date I got the shipping confirmation from Snell. That has been the case on the 3 orders I have made from them over the past 2 years.

Just ordered a dozen MTB Red for testing. My goto ball is Callaway Chrome Soft, tried a Volvik S3 last season - did not like it for putting so it is out. Looked at Cut, Vice but Snell appeals to me most based on the reviews.

 

Honestly, the older Chrome Soft at $32 (before shipping) is tempting - but they won't be around for alot longer. No shipping/tax is also nice on the Snells.

After playing both I ordered a six pack of the reds today. They're both great balls but the red really stood out to me with approach shots. I like the feel off the putter and irons as well. The black is an improved feeling version of the original to me which isn't a bad thing. I already know what I can get out of the black, I'm interested to see how my game changes with the red over the course of a few months. Worse case I'll just switch back to the black, but I don't anticipate that happening.
