how similar in forgiveness and feel are the j15cb and srixon745? i have the ability to go test or demo the 745, so can i assume that if they feel and perform well that the j15cb are more or less forgiving.

also, of the three models, which would benefit someone with slightly steeper angle of attack. i like iron with little blunted edge so that it doesn't dig. looks like srixon would be great for someone that likes a divot, but any thoughts on bridgestones.

any low handicaps even looking at or considering the j15dpf. seems the j40dpc were very playable by better players so wondering if dpf are their replacement. i like long irons being easy to hit so i think i need to just hit the srixon 745 4-5 iron and see how forgiving. if they are comparable to df and cb then i should be good.

Yes, the DPFs are the new DPCs. I got this from a online chat with a Bridgestone rep.

My 715 CB arrived today. Absolutely gorgeous iron. Time to sell the 745/545 combo I played with twice. The new Stones are going into the bag. I can give you some feedback once the freezing temps go away. I loved the srixons but bought them to tide me over while waiting for the j15. The soles remind me of the adams a12 pro which honestly has been one of my favorite irons in the last four years.

Was told the driver FW and wedges would be here in next 7-10 days.

I did the exact same thing. Forgiveness wise what's your feeling (even though you haven't hit the cb's yet) compared to the z745's? Much difference in size?

The head size is pretty close is size between these two irons. Look similar at address. The cb may be a fraction bigger but barely. The soles on the cb are by no means thin, but they appear thinner than the srixon. Albeit the Srixon V sole plays thinner than it looks. I do think the cb appear to have a bit more perimeter weighting. I would say the cb may have better directional forgiveness and the srixon more launch forgiveness on thin shots. Just my observations or expectations based on what I read and what I hear and expect from the design.

The cb just looks fantastic. Several folks appear to have given up and thrown in the towel on BStone. I think they are worth the wait. I also am a fan of the stock DG pro shaft so that's a bonus. Yellow grips will have to go however...lol

I’ve finally been able to the j15 irons through their test drive program along with the Srixon 745. Unfortunately I only hit indoors, but on reliable monitor at indoor simulator center. I’ll give my own opinions on each, but realize that others may have different experience. Test drive program is a great, cheap way to try these irons.

J15DPF – Surprised at how good these look. Some won’t like the black rubber, but you don’t see it at address. Little longer heel to toe, but topline is players iron thin. Pretty good look and won’t scream game improvement. However, they don’t feel game improvement. Feel is really good, and they don’t have the game improvement forgiveness and distance from what I saw compared to other irons. Distance wasn’t much different than what I got in the cb’s, with a little less soft feel. This is actually probably a good thing. Some GI irons have forgiveness on off center hits, but center hits are 10-15 yards longer. These are similar on center hits to the cb, but just don’t lose quite as many yards on hits a little off center. Hits high on face made pop sound and felt pretty bad, but that’s not all that surprising. I could definitely play these, and wish the 4 iron was sold as single iron. For whatever reason I didn’t see the forgiveness differences between dpf and cb enough that made me think I had to go dpf. If they were longer with more forgiveness with the same feel I may consider them, but best I could tell was 5-7 more yards on mishits and I’m willing to give that up for the cb feel.

J15CB – I was a little worried that coming from TM Speedblades I would miss the forgiveness. The feel was great. I’ve played mp64’s, and CB not quite as soft but not lacking in feel. Very similar to 745’s. this is the type of feel that makes you want to give up the touch of forgiveness in DPF to get this soft feel on good hits. Mishits didn’t feel all that bad. They didn’t rattle your bones like some players irons. Distance dropped 10-15 yards but this was on toe or thin shots. Bad hits are bad hits. Good hits are rewarded and distances are extremely consistent. 7 iron was 170-175 carry.

J15 DF – These my my decision a little easier. I don’t think I had a single hit that made me consider these irons. They didn’t feel all that great. Worst of the bunch. I didn’t see much if any forgiveness over cb. And worst was the sound. I kept coming back to these and giving them a few more hits thinking that I wasn’t hitting center. After a few hits I started to wonder if there was something wrong with them. Was there a screw loose or the head not properly glued. I didn’t see much distance gains from cb but even if I had the feel and sound made me want to give up on these instantly. And this is coming from someone who was ready to buy the DF’s if the Test Drive program wasn't offered. I wanted feel of cb with just little more forgiveness without even stronger lofts of some similar irons. These just didn't do anything for me.

Srixon 745 – First hit and I almost instantly thought these were it. No more swings needed, just pack up and get an order in. the feel was that good. I kept hitting and on center hits the feel was really good. mishits felt little worse however than the cb’s. I felt the forgiveness was a little better in the Cb’s. I really wish I could compare each on turf, but can’t wait until spring as I’m planning golf trip soon and need to get order in. Distance was also 3-5yards shorter on good hits than cb. Spin was a little higher in these but I’m low spin anyways. May actually be to my benefit if I could test on course.

Overall, I could flip a coin and play 745’s or CB’s. I like that Srixon allows mixed sets. However, I love the feel and performance of modus shaft which is free upgrade in Bridgestone. Can’t go wrong with either. From what I’ve seen, j15 are not quite as expensive from DD. I wish bridgestone offered DPF in 4 iron and we could mix sets. 4-5 iron at my level make me a little nervous as I won’t see the easy long iron shots of speedblades, but the 6-pw feel and accuracy along with consistent distance will hopefully make up for this. I’m going to place an order for the CB’s with Modus 120X. i also most likely am going to give the Lamkin UTX grips a shot coming from Pure Pro.

Srixon won on feel, CB won because of combination of feel, distance, and consistency with touch more forgiveness. Notice I haven’t mentioned work-ability. I think this is overrated, and I’m not someone who tries to work shots different directions unless I absolutely have to. I have no doubt any of the clubs I tried would allow a better player to do this. Either way, I’m an admitted club ho and indecisive, so no matter my choice I wouldn't be surprised to second guess myself and be playing something different come this time next year. For whatever reason the 745’s have got my attention, but the price and shaft options of Bridgestone is ultimate difference.

I also hit the callaway xr pro as they had a demo, and it was forgiving, and extremely hot off the face. Almost too much so. Feel was like a quality cast. Not quite forged, but not extremely clicky. I25 like. Problem is I've never liked the look of callaway badge and the cupped face just gave me distance but wasn’t consistent. I could see myself hitting 175 carry 7 irons and catch one right on sweet spot and fly one 185. Its not that it was inconsistent on center hits, just that it was almost too long on center hits compared to off center.these weren't bad, they were very good for what they were and i wouldn't doubt be the best choice if i was strictly looking for iron that was best for my ability. i absolutely know that reason i gave up the speedblades is because i didn't love the feel and didn't like the looks and i'd be right back to where i am now. for whatever reason, if i don't love the feel and looks, performance just won't make me ignore this.

i'd love to hear some more opinions of others on these irons. hopefully some reassurance that the cb's are the right choice.

Great review .....Thanks.....Many say the big plus in the 745's is the turf interaction....Too bad you didn't get a chance to hit them off the grass.

yes i know. wish i had that opportunity. from what i saw of the Cb's, they had a blunted leading edge and just a little trailing relief. maybe not quite like srixon, but the wider sole along with the leading edge grind makes me think these will be pretty good on turf too.

FWIW. I just ordered j15 cbs with the Nippon Modus 3 at a PGA Superstore and there was an upcharge. I tried explaining that this was listed as a no upcharge shaft on the Bridgestone website but it fell on def ears. I plan to inquire with Bridgestone customer service when they are online in the morning. I am coming from s55's with c-Tapers S straight in and the trajectory is quite good. While the c-Tapers feel fine, not great but fine, on full shots they feel dag nasty to me on 80%'ers. Especially the short irons. My mizuno shaft optimizer averages of 3 swings was 91mph 4-2-4-3. Top 3 shaft recs where DG x-100 ssx1. Project x 6.0. and c-Tapers X ssx1. That system always seems to spit out shafts that I feel are too stiff. I went with Modus 3 120X straight in and hope that the feel on non full shots improves.

Any input on the upcharge or the shaft selection is greatly appreciated.

how similar in forgiveness and feel are the j15cb and srixon745? i have the ability to go test or demo the 745, so can i assume that if they feel and perform well that the j15cb are more or less forgiving.

also, of the three models, which would benefit someone with slightly steeper angle of attack. i like iron with little blunted edge so that it doesn't dig. looks like srixon would be great for someone that likes a divot, but any thoughts on bridgestones.

any low handicaps even looking at or considering the j15dpf. seems the j40dpc were very playable by better players so wondering if dpf are their replacement. i like long irons being easy to hit so i think i need to just hit the srixon 745 4-5 iron and see how forgiving. if they are comparable to df and cb then i should be good.
Yes, the DPFs are the new DPCs. I got this from a online chat with a Bridgestone rep.
I have the j15 DPF. My first Bridgestone. They feel fantastic. Very soft. Not sure I can live with the length from heel to toe but feel wise they might be better than DF. I haven't hit the j15 cb. I haven't decided if I'm keeping the DPF yet or not.

Been gaming XHot Pros with Project X rifles 6.0 (95gram)...shaft is too light for me.

Have demos of the DF with C Taper stiff, Project X 6.0. Outdoors only....no electronics...my feel and sight feedback.
Distance is similar, feel is similar....C Taper is lower flight. These irons do make a loud sound at impact...however after about 20 balls I did not notice it any longer.
They look great at set up with only slight off set. Great top line....feel like a plaayers club. Shafts might be a bit much for me

I have more demos on the way.....DFand CB with C Taper Lite stiff and DG X105 stiff. Figure these will be a bit more shaft than the rifles yet less than the C Tapers and Project X.

Once all are in hand and I have hit the snot out of them I will get on a monitor to check numbers and see how the shaft recommendations mate up with my selections.

I know some are thinking just go launch monitor....kind of simplify things. Well that is not me....I love to experiment and the end result gives me more confidence that I have vetted the shafts.

I just got these to test drive along side the DPF's and thought something was off on the DF's when I hit them in my indoor bay. There's a high pitch ting when you flush the DF very reminiscent to the old Apollo hump shaft Vijay and Furyk used to play if you've ever played those. It's obviously a love/hate deal and I think I'm on the love side though I totally see why you and others could be turned off. Definitely not what you'd expect from a forged iron...although the hollow cavity inside the head may explain it a little. It's certainly not there with the "turbo rubber" found in the DPF. Much more muted sound similar to JPX 850 forged. Going to hit them outside. The looks of the DF have me smitten. Really hope the sound issue is a good thing for me, lol.

Been playing DFs for over a month now, straightest pin seeking irons I've played! Yeh they make a funny sound if you hit them off center, but I like the feedback and feel they offer! The numbers on the launch monitor were better with these then the cbs or the srixons! The people that don't like the feel must not be hitting the center !

I have just hit the J15 CB, DF, and CB.

Preferred the CB for feel. Preferred them to Srixons, too.

Mind you, I'm a 12 handicap hack, and probably have no reason to be playing these players clubs.

Play what you like.

Do what ya like....

For those of you who chose the J15 CB's, which shaft did you end up going with? Looking to get a set with the stock DG Pro s300's or the Modus 120 stiff. Any feedback on this head with either of these shafts?

I also went back and forth with the CB's and Z745's, ultimately like a lot have said, the Bridgestone's just felt a tad softer and more forgiving..used the DG Pros in my testing..

I went with the Modus 120X. Since they were a no charge upgrade I thought if I didnt like them I would just sell the pullouts and get something else.

For reference I had one of the test drive demo kits that came with the DG Pro and the KBS Tour shafts. Those two shafts felt very similar in flex and swinging the club. I would give the slight edge to the KBS for being better balanced then DG Pro but the Pro was better then I expected. I never liked any DG product before.

Do you normally play x-stiff? I heard the modus 120 play soft to flex so I'm thinking I should go with the 120X too. I assume you like them?
