Golf Talk Wednesday : What are you working on, or did you work on most recently with your swing?

 

had been working on setup, then i got on the course sunday and yesterday and promptly abandon everything i was trying to do. like, what i had been working on didn't make sense anymore in the context of actually trying to swing a club and make contact with the ball with a specific distance and target in mind. i'm not too disappointed tho, feel like the game is coming back around. nowhere close to where i was in december16, but there's still a couple months till the season gets going for real.

So, is the SKLZ accelerator pro the hive approved putting mat?

 

it's something to use. it's not great, it's not terrible. it'll help you groove a stroke tho.

tex, you're correct but i'm not placing a whole lot of emphasis on my score for those days. we'll have our bets an all, but i'm going in with the mindset of enjoying the camaraderie vs golfsmasheverything. i expect i'll be at a sully-level of athleticism come our final round. probably a sully-level of scoring too.

GTW : Still working on getting the weight to the back heel in the back swing and quieting the lower body action. Or at least taking some of the "translation" and turning it into "rotation".

 

It's working, but then I see a video and it doesn't look like it at all. But, it's better than before, and it's getting there.

 

It's amazing to me how much that lower body stuff can change my path.

GTW: Working on my handpath being more vertical and keeping the clubhead outside the hands on the takeaway. Also, keeping my weight over the arches of my feet rather than out over the balls of my feet.

i've seen said player hit some incredible shots. virtually none of them are with a wedge in hand. which is astounding, considering the number of par 4s he's coming in with a wedge in hand. this is for 3/4 to full approach shots... around the green, his soft hands have been well documented, which honestly makes it even more baffling to me.

sidenote: stepped outside at lunch to go hit some putts and get the taste of losing out of my mouth. chose laytonsville because i knew their practice green would more likely be deserted vs BM. i chose wisely. dropped 3 balls and aimed at a distant hole. gently right to left, slightly downhill, maybe 20-25 feet away.

 

i made all 3.

 

putted for 20 or so mins. felt so good to have the sun shining on my face. i'm thinking to myself, i should do this everyday. ended on a high note, converting a 10 foot comebacker to save 'par.' the joy that this game can bring me continues to surprise me.

 

i hope you guys got outside, if only for a little bit. beautiful day to be on the course.

I played 4 rounds with the JPX900. Liked it and brought it. Very solid club. Has a med-firm Speeder shaft that feels real good. Bag set for the year. I how have 7 different OME clubs in the bag.

Today was the estimated delivery day for the Fastback. Sadly, my package seems to be lost in the bowels of USPS somewhere. The last time it was scanned was when it left Springfield, MA at 4:23am yesterday. That SOB better show up getting scanned in MD somewhere tomorrow morning.

Played holes at Hobbits with City tonight. Started off the front (back) 9 strong. Hit two dumb iron shots, but I was pounding the big dog, and hit some nice iron/wedge shots too. Yardages to pin were 145, 160, and 218 on 13, 14, and 15, respectively. Had about 50 yards in on 12. Hit it to 5 feet on 11 (missed putt). I've been fighting a wicked cold and I didn't have any gatorade, but the last few holes I literally forgot how to play golf. I hit a few nice shots, but most were crap. I was gassing out there.

 

City hit the ball solidly for the most part. Starting to hit a few loose drives here-and-there, but pretty solid out there.

 

Surprisingly, we only got held up by a single on our second 9, but he politely let us through. Course is not in good shape, IMO. No rough anywhere on the back 9. They are digging up a bunch of stuff and tractors are all over just crushing the already dead rough. Makes for some interesting lies, and the rivets in the fairway edges are still there, which can be annoying. Greens weren't as nice as they have been. BUT, it was another great day in Feb for golf.

Am I the only one who randomly looks up people's handicaps? Last year I typed in the name of a guy I went to HS with. I had never played 9 on a "real" course until we played the back at northwest together. He had a wife beater under the polo. Dropped the polo on 11 tee. Later dropped the wife beater #etiquette. He's a 1.0 at eagles nest
