MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

Between taking my daughter to the orthodontist and gymnastics I snuck in 6 holes at Falls Road. What a gorgeous day! Short sleeve shirt and sweat pants in February. Can't beat that.

Quick Cap Earthquake Style: I continue to hit the ball pretty well. I continue to putt like a blind person (in fairness, the greens were crap and I wasn't playing for anything). I hit a 350 yard towering DRAW to 50 yards on 18 (wind was down and from the left). If I could hit a draw reliably, I think I'd pick up 30 yards on my tee balls. If pigs could fly... Hit a nice little 52 to 10 feet below the hole. Whiffed the putt. Thought about a #7 at Wendy's with a Choco frosty, but enough about that. I had at least 6 or 7 legitimate shots at birdie. Made 0 of them. Even manged to 3 putt two of them. Honestly, with any short game at all (and mostly I refer to putting), I'd be shooting low 70s out there. If pigs could fly...

 

Eagle hit the ball well. Said his game has been in shambles, but it wasn't today, at least not in the ball striking department (less a fatty on #4). Really got into a few tee balls today, and made some very nice wedge swings. Didn't putt well, but honestly nobody did. Not even City, who is the best bad greens putter I've ever known. I wish I could play with Eagle more. Just not at NW. I hate NW. NW hates me.

 

City didn't hit the driver as well today as he has been, though it wasn't horrible. I'll let him recap the birdie of the year. It was SO City. It's been said on here before, but his hcp should be around 2.5 to 4, and not because of a great round from the tips at BP Black.

 

I can't believe today was Feb. I was surprised they hadn't rolled the greens. They did cut all new pins from yesterday. Oh well.

I had a really good match with Eagle yesterday.

 

He scraped a little rust off on hole 1 and I went 1 up, but he had a great up and down from basically inside the hazard on the par 3, 3rd FTW.

 

Both of us made a couple of nice UD's to snatch halves from the jaws of bogeys. I hit a tree on 8 while Eagle made a nice par from a similar location and I was 1DN but got it back on 9 with a 7 iron to 12 feet.

 

Eag got me on the par 5 12th, but I showed him my sandy Word not allowed on 13 and he three-jerked it from the fringe. E.

 

13 was the funny hole. He pulled one way left behind trees. while I split the fairway and had about 85 yards in. PQ and I are walking to my ball and we're like, "that looks like it's sitting down".

 

"yeah, like sitting in a drain down."

 

Like. . .I'm going to wait for Eagle to get up here and look at this ball, down.

 

Well, we get to the ball and it's in a divot about the size of DaveChen's calf.

 

Meanwhile, Eagle has just roped one from behind the tree right at the pin and it's right in front of the green in perfect position for a stock UpsieDownsie.

 

My ball is resting against the side of the divot and down in it. I'll tell you how bad it was. . .I was actually on the verge of having the germ of a idea to have the notion of of a thought of maybe saying to Eagle something toe-dipping probing along the lines of "what do you think?"

 

But, I didn't.

 

I indicate a slight bit of destruction in the front of the divot that might allow my ball passage. Chop down on the thing with a 54 and fling it up next to the green in the rough. I couldn't even re-fill it. I just coated the bottom of it with a fine layer of sand. Sexy, sexy, sexy sand on the bottom.

 

Another recurring theme of the day was that I was constantly in better position to go for the secondary hole on the green than the hole that had the flagstick in it. Not only that, one time I started reading my putt to the wrong hole only to be standing right in Eagle's line for the hole we were actually putting to. LOL.

 

 

Anyway, I tell PQ, "I'd rather be chipping to this hole instead of our hole."

 

He's like, "Naw, that other hole is easier to get to."

 

Epilogue :

 

I chipped in.

 

First words out of Eagle's mouth, "the golf gods".

I won the next hole, too, for 3 straight and that basically sanded both buttocks. He got 16, but then we went missy-makey on 17 FTH. And I made par from the sandy buns on 18 FTW.

 

Good match by Eagle. As y'all know, I've been playing a lot and playing pretty well and both Eag's and Sully were willing and game this week. Nice to get a match in in Febs. Like DC, I rocked the shorts yesterday. #NoBelt. #NoRakes

 

I don't know about you guys, but this warm weather sometimes leaves me feeling like I'm whistling by the Earth's graveyard, but as a golfer, I'll take it.

Hoping the snow tonight doesnt amount to much. Supposed to only get @ an inch or two down here which wont affect the roads but the wind chill is supposed to be below freezing from tonight until Saturday AM. Would be a major bummer if it washed out Saturday golf. But all in all this winter has been glorious.

Couple follow-ups to things this week. . .

 

Playing with Sully Sunday. . .on hole 4 at Waverly, he hits one that appears to go OB left. He declares a provisional. I go, "what distinguishes the balls?" and he goes, "well, nothing, but this one won't be near that one" (or something).

 

Anyway, he hits it right near the first one. And then we only find one ball.

 

Lesson : make your provisionals distinct.

 

Also, he hit it into green-staked area and the card says, "play green stakes as rule 26-1" and I was going, "ummmm, 26-1? I think that's lateral hazard rule". Which it is. But, I should have just known that.

 

Lesson : 26-1 is one of those that people should just know by name. Like 13-1. In case you don't know, 13-1 is play it as it lies, or more specifically, you can't improve your lie, your stance, or your line of flight.

 

Also, we get to hole 4 yesterday and PQ says something like, "this is a great hole."

 

And, I go, "RealSnee said he loves it. He birdies it all the time."

 

"Not Sunday. He made about a 15 on it."

 

Lesson : Don't taunt the golf gods, Like RealSneek did.

Two things. 1. Correction, Sneek birdied 4 on Sunday and made a real mess of it Monday. Funny thing, before he teed off I said something about him making birdies on the hole. 2. How's that bus drive, City?

I actually did birdie it on Sunday. Hit driver just to the left of the last fairway bunker and then hit a 52* to about 5 feet.

 

Monday was a different story. Hit 2 drives that started right and went farther right up into the junk on the hill. Took an X.

 

Jeez City, if you are gonna call me out at least get the facts straight...

 

Lesson learned though. I hope the golf gods accept my sacrifice of 2 e6's.

Generic pound signs, so #gocaps and ish. So, check out his pics, and there's a pic of me and my buddy waiting to enter the arena. Now, it's odd to see someone you don't know with a pic of yourself. Yet alone just rando run across a pic of yourself... I'm safe, right?

 

Are you like... speaking millennialese or something?

 

I don't know the protocol for that, are you center focus or in the background/sidelines? He sounds like a creeper to me.

PQ turns one over left to right on 18 and he's like "i think it's up by those tire things".

 

"well, maybe they're not tires. Maybe they're chairs".

 

We get up there and they're stand-pipes.

 

They were so far out of play, no one even knew what they were. Anyway, PQ is about 50 yards off the green and declares this the longest drive ever on that hole. I'm like, "it must have hit the path".

 

PQ : "It did not hit the path."

 

ME : "Im inspecting that ball after the hole."

 

PQ : "well, it already had one scuff mark on it."

 

ME : smells fishy. I toucha da fishy.

 

 

So, anyway, I'm standing there on 18 while PQ misses the putt and I snatched that b1tch and give it the old looksie. It had one scuff on it, that admittedly, did not look like a fresh scuff. I suggested we send it to a lab.

 

PQ : #resisted

In that guy's defense, it looks like all he does is take pictures at Caps games, and liking your picture was probably just because of the tag. And then it was pure coincidence. Still, it's pretty funny to find yourself in a rando social media shot like that. Very coincidental, but sometimes they happen.

We have a great butcher shop near me. I was trying to get a nice steak for the superbowl, but settled on short ribs, goat, and stew beef and I made stew.

 

I called to try to get what I wanted, and they go, "we don't have it, and we're not getting another steer in until Tuesday".

 

I have soap from them made with tallow. Translation : beef fat. When I wash with it, it smells like. . .well, kind of like you're washing your face with a steak.
