I knew that golf and sex had the common trait that, regarding both, one doesn't need to be good in order to enjoy it. But reading these posts, it seems that another common factor is that a lot of guys would be willing to pay or give up significant funds to put in in the hole the way they always wanted.

 

Now, of course, with golf the idea is to use as few strokes as possible, while with sex it is to use as many strokes as possible.

I find it interesting that people would rather a hole in one than 10 Benjamins.

I think it goes to the whole "experiences over material goods" argument. When (If) I get a whole in one- its going to be buying the drinks, and the stupid overpriced plaque from the pro shop, and the whole goofy me with my index finger in the air while standing next to the flagstick picture. You know why?

Cause I'm going to remember that the rest of my life.

We've all gotten bonus checks, windfalls, etc that are 1K or over- can you name them all?

I will be able to tell you in friggin detail when I get mine- the length of the hole, the wind gusts, who I was with, the 3 inch vertical leap I will have. etc.

I feel that way about golf courses too- Sure I can go play OCGC 10x for what it costs to play Streamsong- but if we start talking best golf courses we have played- OCGC's going to be in there at the end of the conversation.

Going to need to start getting some of you donks to start stashing benjo's for a 2024 trip or something. Start working on the wife now. Ballpark estimate gonna need 8-10 days and 4-6K.

I haven't listened, but I've got some sort of 10-year plan to get to Ireland or Scotland and run through some of the classics. Going to need to start getting some of you donks to start stashing benjo's for a 2024 trip or something. Start working on the wife now. Ballpark estimate gonna need 8-10 days and 4-6K.

 

Priced out a trip with the Brittania guys at the golf expo, 3 round in Ireland/3 in Scotland, hotel/golf/food/van/driver was @ $2800. If you didn't want to play the Old Course it was significantly less, but you need to pay that deposit a year ahead of time. Know a couple guys that have used them.

Toughie. Career best by a shot would be even par.

 

If I went out to play golf tomorrow -- FTR, I am playing golf tomorrow -- I'd take the HIO, because I'm going to beat my career best eventually.

 

Pick one : HIO or a 60's round one time for the rest of your life. Going with 60's round. Even shooting in the 70's seems like something fewer people have done than have HIO's.

To be fair, I think 30 years from now I'll have more cash in the bank. I'd take the $1k and go see some national parks or something with the lady (PG)

~15 years. Got a hole-in-one within 1-2 years of taking up the game.

 

IDGAF about having a hole-in-one. I've shot rounds that I care a whole lot more about than the HIO. I've holed out a bunch of times, many of which were better shots than the HIO.

 

I don't think any of you GAF that I have made a hole-in-one.

 

Kenty having like 20 HIOs... now that's something to talk about.

But, it's hard to express how little utility $1000 has to me, though.

I'm saying I don't care about having one at all. Not whether I care about getting another one, versus the $1k. I'd take the $1k if I had zero HIOs. It's not at the top of the heap of golf experiences I'm dying to have. Shooting a great round of golf, playing at some cool places, or some memorable times with friends - those are the kind of things I care more about.

I listened to the NLU podcast today. Royal Portrush sounds absolutely incredible. They built 2 brand new holes for the Open in 2019 that are right by the water and are scrapping the current 17th and 18th. Look up the 14th hole "Calamity". Ridiculously tough par 3.

GTF: I'm gonna skip most of the usual answers and go with the K Club. There are a handful of other courses I've watched on the LPGA or Euro Tour this year I honestly just dont know the names of them - like the Evian Course, which ironically I think is called the Evian Course. Courses like that in other parts of the world have just amazing scenery that you dont always get around in the US.

 

DTF: Well the contractor was running an initial test on the new shower drain - only he didnt ask the plumber if he should and it wasnt properly sealed. Bad news is that two buckets of water streamed out of the drain onto my 1st floor - if there's any good news its that the ceiling had already been cut out/removed and I have hardwood floors. No harm no foul. Although drinking a half bottle of Breckenridge bourbon tonight might count as personal harm, its a risk I'm willing to take.

 

You're going to go all the way to the isles and play a parkland? How about Portrush?
