Played Bowes Creek yesterday. Now that's a course that's in good condition. Firm and fast fairways, but enough grass that the lies weren't too tight. Greens were really nice too, although bumpy in spots since we played later in the day. That's gotta be the best public course in the Chicagoland area IMO.

I think there's a better one right down the street, but its definitely up there. It's a shame the front nine isn't nearly as interesting as the back.

Played Aldeen on Saturday. Absent the 20 minute delay in the starting time (must have been the very rare frost on a 90 degree day), the course is in amazing shape, the greens were undoubtedly the fastest played this year...even faster than Medinah. They had the final round of the city tournament on Sunday and double cut and rolled them on Saturday morning.

Another great weekend of golf up in Wisconsin. PLayed Lawsonia Links on Friday in 30 mph winds. Flagsticks were sideways, balls were oscillating on the greens, I half expected someone to come out and suspend play due to winds. Started with 5 bogeys and never recovered, finished with all bogeys and pars for an 84. Tough to putt when the ball is moving.

Next day met some buddies at Whispering Springs in Fond Du Lac. Never been. Course in amazing shape and only $50 to ride, really fast greens. But damn was it tight with lots of water and woods. Had a great time with my friends, but played the worst round of my season. 44-49-93. Didn't have a single good iron shot till my last one on 18 when I said to myself enough is enough and actually focused...nearly holed out a gap wedge from 105. Other than a few good hybrids everything else was terrible. Later that day I stewed for a few hours upset at myself for how poorly I played and my lack of focus on 92 of the 93 shots I took.

Yesterday decided I needed to make amends, went to Lawsonia for another round on the Links with hopefully less wind. Got there at 8:12 and was told I could play at 8:20 or wait til 9:30 so I jumped in with the 8:20 twosome and no warm up. Got up and down on 1 for a par. Had my best approach shot ever on #2 and tapped in a 3 incher for birdie. Parred the next two before bogeying #5 with a 30 foot 3 putt. Next hole hit a 4 hybrid from 199 that landed 4 feet in front of the pin and rolled out a bit...made par. Box car hole fat tee shot and got up and down, very impressive since the green is a sheer cliff 25 foot elevated island. Wind started picking up and I birdied #8 with a 15 footer. -1 through 8, never in my life had I played 9 holes even let alone under par. Great drive on 9 and then a hybrid left me 85 yards out...of course I choked and shanked a SW nearly OB, almost got up and down for par but settled for a bogey and a 36! Wind got crazy on the back and it was from the west which is awful for the back nine. Struggled with club selection the rest of the way. On #17 its usually D-9i, went with D-4H and was 10 yards short of the green. 43 on the back for a solid 79 on the day and a nice bounce back from Saturday's fiasco.

HofE is great too. 1a and 1b.

Agree re: front vs back. However, the front has a few really fun holes like #6 and #9 (when down wind).

Well, I think I might be sidelined for a little bit. It seems that a week of carrying my daughter in my arms, on my shoulders and on my back, as well as holding her in the lake to help her "swim", and holding her to crash through waves has done a number on my neck and back. Woke up with some soreness and a stiff neck last week and it hasn't gone away yet. Don't regret it, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but constant neck and back pain is annoying. Comes at probably a good time as my weekends are booked for a while, but I did feel like I was just starting to get back in the groove with some good rounds after hitting a mid season wall.

Played ThunderHawk today. The short par 4 8th I hit one of my best drives of the year in to a fairway sand trap about 30 yards from the hole (of course). Figured I would hit a gap wedge to carry another greenside bunker. Hit it thin (polite way to say I skulled it) over the green. All of a sudden I hear the guys in my group yelling. The ball flew 15 yards past the green, hit a golf cart curb and bounced back on the green about 6 feet from the hole. Made the putt for a three. Easy peasy. Four penalty strokes, doubled 18 and still shot an 86.
[/quote]

Congrats on the 3rd place finish! 86 at that course is nothing to be ashamed of.

What tees did they have you playing?

Silver tees, about 6200 yards if I recall.

I hear ya CL.
I know Schaumburg's not the hardest course out there but I played rather well today and still got smoked like cheap weed.

Company outing at Harborside tomorrow. Wilmette on Saturday. Buffalo Grove on Sunday. If the weather holds out it's going to be a record year for the number of rounds. I'll likely be heading to Ohio in a few weeks for 7 to 9 rounds of golf. :golfer:

Might hit up the renovated Mount Prospect CC this weekend. Has anyone here seen the new layout yet? I am encouraged by the pics online

If you do make sure to let us know how it is. from the flyover it looks like they did a lot of work to the place, especially with the bunkers. Maybe even got rid of a bunch of trees? I"m gonna wait till next year to let it mature a bit, plus its cartparth only the rest of 2015 which I imagine will lead to some overly long rounds out there.

Got an afternoon meeting in Hinsdale tomorrow, gonna swing over to Ruffled Feathers for a twilight round rather than fight traffic back to the city. Only played out there once and that was a year or two ago. $41 on golfnow with the service charge, not a bad deal.

Yeah. RF is Dye's only design in Illinois. He has a bunch in Indiana, and Kohler, WI of course.
