Ryan Lochte getting attacked at gunpoint by a mosquito isn't the headline on CNN right now :)

As this is not happening anywhere else...

I look forward to the 2024 olympics in East St Louis. Slogan could be "This stuff happens in other places too people"

I enjoyed the whole event and liked the course, different look for a change. Hats off to the winners..........and everyone who competed. Memories for a lifetime. No hard feelings towards those who didn't attend but I think deep down they have to regret turning down a chance to represent their country.

Great event!

Too bad the IOC chose Rio with all the Zika health scare, terrible crime and third-world lawlessness. Too bad the IOC banned Olympic participants from displaying non-Rio sponsored logos/emblems on their clothing and equipment.

Here is the list of golfers (with World Rankings at the time they withdrew) that would have made the field much, much stronger:

  • Jason Day (No. 1) -- Australia
  • Dustin Johnson (No. 2) -- United States
  • Jordan Spieth (No. 3) -- United States
  • Rory McIlroy (No. 3) -- Northern Ireland
  • Adam Scott (No. 8) -- Australia
  • Branden Grace (No. 11) -- South Africa
  • Louis Oosthuizen (No. 14) -- South Africa
  • Hideki Matsuyama (No. 17) -- Japan
  • Charl Schwartzel (No. 23) -- South Africa
  • Marc Leishman (No. 37) -- Australia
  • K.T. Kim (No. 41) -- South Korea
  • Francesco Molinari (No. 56) -- Italy
  • Hideto Tanihara (No. 69) -- Japan
  • Graeme McDowell (No. 73) -- Northern Ireland
  • Victor Dubuisson (No. 78) -- France
  • Matt Jones (No. 84) -- Australia
  • Miguel Angel Jimenez (No. 166) -- Spain
  • Vijay Singh (No. 210) -- Fiji
  • Brendon de Jonge (No. 319) -- Zimbabwe
  • Angelo Que (No. 320) -- Philippines
  • Tim Wilkinson (No. 340) -- New Zealand

I was reading somewhere that some of the spectators were picking up player's balls on the course. Any truth to that?

Not sure about that. But the caddies and olympic staff were constantly having to tell the gallery to put their phones away.

The goddamn phones, the goddam phones, Put your goddman phones away and enjoy the event? Hey there's an idea. So many people now days, too busy recoding crap with their phones, that they actually miss the real stuff going on. Like rock concerts. So how was the concert last night? Ahh too busy had my phone out the entire night, I'll watch the recoding later.

People getting run over in the street because of Pokemon. People driving and killing their own children while on their phones (true recent story).

The IOC could not have predicted Zika, but everything else is fair game.

That is quite a list and would have been awesome if they all would have participated!

At least Spieth is trying to face it head on because he will inevitably be asked all about the Olympics at the next event and is also keeping consistency with his excuses.

McIlroy has been very quiet on Twitter, with only one tweet the entire length of the Olympics, a post which was provoked by 5 or 6 troll tweet in a row by the Irish boxers. On Facebook, he hasn't posted anything for nearly three weeks which is unusual for him. Obviously been told to keep his head down after his comments at the Open...

It always amazes me how some people will keep coming back to the same thread to keep trashing on an event or a player over and over again. We get it. You didn't care for the event or player. Move on with your day. Saying it 5 times doesn't make it more valid.

Obviously a shame more of the top guys weren't in the field, but I thought the course looked fine and the finish was about as good as anything outside the Open this season. Rose has always been a favourite of mine, just a gorgeous swing, and it was great seeing how jacked he was after putting out at 18. I would not mind seeing the format changed to either team or match play, but overall I enjoyed what I saw and hope golf sticks around for the olympics for at least a few more cycles.

The duel between Rose and Stenson, and the charge by Kuchar was fun to watch. I feel bad for those who did not like it. Congrats to Rose!

Agreed, today was exciting despite the drawbacks but the first three days were just ho-hum. Imagine how great it could have been with a stronger field and a more visually interesting course.

So you're saying this event was perfect as-is and there is no room for improvement?

I see were your goin. Improvement is a sure thing in this event. Your a analyst aren't you?

I gave it a chance, still indifferent. For instance praising Kuchar for a 3rd place finish feels artificial. It takes too big a leap of faith for me personally to believe that this week only, a third place finish in a golf stroke play tournament (on a brand new untested course no less) amounts to some sort of career milestone.

Perhaps if they gave nice shiny medals to 3rd place finishers on the PGA TOUR, folks might appreciate those more, too.

On the flip side, I would venture the same could be said of any given major. It's that week that counts.
