TP Mills - Post your Putter

Added a finishing touch by doing my first paint fill.

Only in white, but it's come up pretty well for a first go.

I had a Mizuno TP Mills... Carbon steel, beautiful. Felt amazing...they never really took off though.

 

I still have one.

Wow. Always been a fan. I was a junior golfer in the 70's when Conrad Rehling was coach at Bama. They always had TPMs in the pro shop and we sort of took them for granted. Later, they were mass produced and we thought, ironically, that it was very cool that they were being embraced by the masses.

 

I was probably in the 8th or 9th grade hitting pitches over a bunker with a pitching wedge, and this guy comes up and shows me how to open the face and basically hit a flop shot off hard pan with cars parked 20 ft opposite the green. It was David Mills, and I cannot remember if he was playing high school or had already started playing college at the time.

 

Years later, I ran into him again as the husband of a colleague in law school. In fact, I won a long drive contest for a law school tourney and the prize was a TPM putter, (8802 style) and I used that until I moved to the Carolinas where I met bent grass for the first time on a regular basis.

 

Will now dig around and try to find that putter and post pics.

 

I was there also, born in T town, played a 9 hole course called Meadow brook.

I have 3 or 4 old Spauling TPM 10's kicking around. Found my first in a barrel at a driving range. I just loved the way it was balanced and I made everything with it for quite some time.

That lefty one up there looks sweet!

Found a Mizuno TP Mills Workbench III in the bin at the golf shop.

 

$15.90 later and it was mine!!!!

 

I've stripped the paint and coked the finish off. Now to do a nice blue/black finish. I'm very excited.

 

Also, in case I want to game it, anyone have any suggestions on how to best add weight to the head without mucking up my sure to be amazeballs restoration job?

That Nick Price handmade looks like BUTTER. Great looking piece of steel there. I wouldn't kick the compact Heritage out of the bag either. Pure gamer.

Found this gem when going through my basement. Bought it after Tommy Armour III set the PGA Tour 72 hole scoring record. Never should have let it get into this condition. I should probably send it in to get refinished.

My Tour issue Oilcan Soft tail, Mizuno Workshop II, and Spaulding TPM 7. Had another ST with a flamed finish that I never got along with, and a Spaulding Roman numeral I that I sold

This one has exchanged hands on wrx many times from what I have seen. Just a simple SoftTail, but oh so soft and clean.

The sole has the look of a Professional Series like a Tradition I had a year ago, but it's not actually stamped "Professional Series" so not quite sure what I have. 99% sure it's carbon steel and assume it's some sort of black oxide though it's much more matte than my previous Mills.

If you look at mine in the post above yours, you'll see they are similar. Mine is supposedly a tour issue, but I have never been able to verify.

Mine had some weight taken from the cavity by David.
