Did you make thread for the spalding refinish?
No, not yet (thanks for asking) - This one was my beginner project, but unfortunately, I did not take pics from start to finish, as I went along. (And it took a couple of attempts, to get it "right" and to a point, where I felt confident enough with the result, to show.)

I did find a couple of threads on Spalding putter refinishes and Caswell steal blackening, to guide me + a little trial and error as I went along. I would be happy to share with you what I've learned with the project. If you are interested, just pm me. I am working on a TPM 12 & 4 and I am taking some pics as I go along.

By the way, thanks for the thread - it helped me decide that keeping my First Tee would be a good idea :D

I'll post some pics of other Mills putters that used to live with me later...

Here are some of my old Mills.... I loved them but a turn in financial fortunes and some health issues forced a sale. I don't know if I will ever have a collection like this one again... some of them were customs made for me.

My all time favorite, a Mini I had custom made - I've tried to find her and buy her back. No luck.

It is called the "Trigger." Mills made a number of these and another divot tool a few years back. I picked it up... a bit heavy but it works great.

Here is my very first Mills... I had just read about Mills and saw this in an Edwin Watts:

Here is my whole collection all together (or at least my collection at this time - I putt with my putters and if one is uncooperative it goes for another ;) ) There was a "Heratage" in this bunch:

I had a Mizuno TP Mills... Carbon steel, beautiful. Felt amazing...they never really took off though.

Tp Mills has been around since 1962. 53 years in business, I think their doing something right.

this Spalding TPM 3 is my very first putter from about 20 years ago, was my dads before that. I've used several other putters since and sadly left it in the garage to deteriorate over the years. my putting has been awful lately and I figured I'd throw the flatstick I learned to putt on back in the bag.

I only recently started reading about the appeal of old carbon steel putters, pencil fluted shafts and TP Mills designs. figured the season here in New England was starting to wind down so I'd work on refurbing my old flatstick (didn't realize i only needed a couple of days). the results are in...

I wasn't dead set on getting all the dents out since I don't have any power tools and didn't want to significantly decrease the putter weight. I was going to paint it black like the original finish but then read about gun bluing carbon steel and it seemed perfect. was thinking of doing some cool colors with the paint fill but ultimately stuck with white Testors and the original scheme. the original grip was crumbling so I just replaced it with a plain GP black rubber pistol grip. I didn't realize how thin the shaft was, butt end was only .500, think I had to add like 10+ wraps of tape to get it to .580.

I gotta say I'm happy with the results and so far it feels great, just like old times!

I agree, I just know they have been bought before without the buyer knowing the difference. Glad you like it. The Soft Tail has always been one of my favorite shapes.

Seems to always be some FS on ebay, at a much higher price than they are worth. Do your homework before you buy.
