Bandon Winter/Spring Reviews - When did you stop raining so much Oregon?

No, I've talked with him on here. We are 8:40 on Sat at Pacific and then gonna play til dark on Bandon

If you guys really want to be annoyed. Just got my industry rate confirmation. 2 nights and 4 rounds = $340 total.

What is this "industry rate" you speak of?

Mallrat is in the biz - it's a nice little thank you for all the good work he and others do, giving us excellent golf courses to play on :)

Dang nice!! What lodging do you stay in to get those rates? They must discount your golf way down! Nice!!

I’m in a forest single. No replay discount but basically 1/2 price per round and 1/2 price lodging.

These will be the 2-5 rounds I have paid for this year.

I look at the rates as payback for everyone who hits into me (which this week was one of the worst ever, doing some turf repair on the far right side of the range and had 10-15 balls land within 6 ft of me

Got in today and played Trails this afternoon. Weather was epic. Finished right as it was too dark for another hole.

The trails greens are in rough shape. Still a great track but they’re bumpy and some parts are really patchy.

Looks like you're catching some great weather.

I leave tomorrow, first round Monday. Hope it holds.

Rather foggy day if anyone has looked at course cameras. Almost no wind, pretty rare. Playing Trails most tee shots were blind.

14 tee.

Lol - that hole is difficult enough as it is.

Uff da...

Did you lose many balls?

Managed to use one ball all day on Trails. My poor score was reflective of an uncooperative putter.

A caddie in my group said he’d never seen fog that thick on Trails. Looks like it will be clear today though.

Course cam looks pretty spectacular today.

How are the course conditions?

Excellent. Played Pacific and Bandon today. Greens were as good as I’ve seen on either. Trails still has some patchiness back in the trees, but better than 2016.

Trip eight in the books.

Generally

Pro - Collectively the greens were the best I've seen them in 8 trips and 50+ rounds. Just awesome. Last 2 3/4 days of weather. A few keep the feck off nets here and there, but nothing intrusive. Could see the adult tonka toys working on Sheep Ranch.

Con - It really is a PITA to get there if you are not on the West Coast. First 2 1/4 days of weather.

Bandon

Pro - An awesome Seve-esque banana ball hybrid out of the rough to the green on the 4th.

Con - A push 6I over the cliff into the 4th from the middle of the fairway.

Old Mac

Pro - Birdying 14 both rounds. Totally vanquished it as my bogey hole the past few years.

Con - Nothing really, except maybe some poor approaches into 10, after being in decent shape off the tee.

Pacific

Pro - Gorgeous but windy AF first 6 holes, slinged a 3W into the 170yd 5th and easy two-putt par.

Con - Rubbish weather after the first 6 holes that brought us off the course, we got back out, but could only loop 14 and were attacked by death pellets that stun like a mofo our second time through the 5th/6th. Didn't see the whole course this trip.

Trails

Pro - Driving 8 twice (only 1 birdie from that though). Only having 165yds into 7 one round, instead of the usual loooong ways out.

Con - Actually losing two balls out there in the Thanksgiving weather: slip swing way right into the trees on 3 and a just miss into the pond on 11.

Food

Pro - Thanksgiving dinner in The Gallery and pizza/beer at the Bandon Brewery in town.

Con - Gone off the meatloaf. It was never great as such, but something Bandony you did. They need to concentrate less on a gigantic portion and more on quality.

Rooms

Pro - Golf suite is awesome for a foursome.

Con - Monsoon that blew through showed they have some leaks to fix in the golf suite and maybe new or new weather stripped doors.

Weather

Worst weather system we've ever seen this trip, with a huge storm rolling through on Thanksgiving day about 10mins after we finished Trails. Thankfully we were 3rd out, so we were done by 11:20 and just missed it... well until we got smacked by the trailing system on Pacific replay.

Two starters said it was the worst they've ever seen. First time we've seen/heard them blow the horns to shut the courses. Calm after the storm was lovely though and some of the nicest weather we've ever played in.

Nice.

Been considering a shift from the meatloaf, myself. It's too freakin' much food, for one thing. Haven't tried the pot pie, for another. Not sure if I can bring myself not to order it on night one, though.

Tradition, you know...

Ha! That's it. I'm one of those finishers (rounds, books, meals, etc...) and I had to give up. We were wondering if it's gotten bigger.

The pot pie was given positives by two of our four who had it, while for me the sheperds pie was just the right amount.

Good write-up duffer. Your pictures are always epic - thank you for sharing.

Bonus points for using "windy AF" and "stung like a mofo" in the write-up.

Can’t complain about my trip except for my play with the driver (good lord was it bad).

McKees just gets more and more crowded. What the he!! happened to the meatloaf? It used to be good and I don’t remember or think of meatloaf as being smooth. Just weird and done with it. The ribs were outstanding though.

Just got back from my trip. Gal at the pacific turnstand said that storm was one of the worst she’s seen. Fortunately, Friday, Saturday and Sunday were great days out there. Almost no wind and blue skies.

Crikey - can you imagine what one of those Howlers would be like out there in the turn stand on Pacific or Old Mac? A person could get religion real fast ...

Good thing those stands are essentially concrete pillboxes.

Must...order....meatloaf............ :no2:
