Portland area course conditions

I was in Portland for work this week. Played Langdon today. Course was in excellent shape! Very green (compared to what I'm used to in Bend) but reasonably firm fairways and receptive but not overly soft greens.

Played Langdon with DeNinny this morning, and the course is really getting to top-notch shape. Fairways are dry and tight, they've gotten both cuts of rough done, greens are almost Summer speed. Finished in just under 4 hours, which is a nice pace for a Saturday there.

 

Pulled my second shot hard left on the par 5 18th, and it found the cart path and ended up almost hole high. Dropped a nice pitch to 5 feet, drained the putt and walked off with an Excuse-Me birdie.

 

Perfect weather, 65-70F with just a bit of North breeze to help on the longer holes. Doesn't get much better than this.

I played Great Blue Friday and the course was in great shape. Greens were a little long and slow, but seemed to roll pretty true. The few soggy parts of the course were in swales between tee boxes and fairways, or between fairways and greens. Couldn't have asked for better weather either!

Just got back from playing Heron Lakes Greenback with jpdx. The course is in good shape.

 

I played Great Blue Friday and the course was in great shape. Greens were a little long and slow, but seemed to roll pretty true. The few soggy parts of the course were in swales between tee boxes and fairways, or between fairways and greens. Couldn't have asked for better weather either!

 

Yeah Greenback was also just barely soft in spots and the greens were slightly slower than usual but they still rolled true. And yeah the weather was awesome both Sat and Sun.

Just got back from a round there and yes it is in great shape. I really like how they have improved the course and clubhouse over the years.

First and foremost they clubhouse was completely revamped. The back/side patio is awesome and the interior is much nicer. And then on the course they cut all the low tree branches out so you can have a shot from under a tree. Also they are maintaining the greens and overall course much better. It basically used to be on the verge of being a goat track with a challenging layout. Now it is just really a good value course.

 

Oh and LOL they still uphold the tradition of cutest cart girls in town. I think there's something in the Scappoose water.

All the courses ive been on have dryed nicely and recovering or have recovered from aeration.

Glendoveer east is punched a week or two ago. Not recovered yet. I didn't play it but that's what a buddy shared with me. West was punched earlier and recovered.

Played Heron Lakes Blue last week. It's firmed up nice. It's in good shape. They have added sand to the bunkers and they are playing good. I was in 3 greenside bunkers and was able to play a proper bunker shot on all of them.

Camas Meadows was in perfect shape today. Got in 18 after work.

Pumpkin Ridge was in very good shape today. No complaints anywhere about those course conditions.

Played the North Course at The Reserve on Sunday. Superb condition . . . Tee boxes, fairways and greens.

 

This course has grown on me over the years. I used to not like it all that much, but now I find myself really enjoying it the few times a year I play it. I prefer it to the South Course.

Langdon was in impeccable condition yesterday. Greens are fully healed and running fast. They even got a hay-mower on the really tall grass, so balls hit there have a chance of bouncing out, or at least being found and sorta playable.

This course has grown on me over the years. I used to not like it all that much, but now I find myself really enjoying it the few times a year I play it. I prefer it to the South Course.

 

We used to be members out there and I preferred the North. Not as challenging as the South but generally an enjoyable round of golf. It’s a fun layout.

i'll do a super quick write up for bend area for this past weekend since I have a few minutes (per another members request).

 

Pronghorn Fazio: Started out the trip and blew our load on the first day. AMAZING course and conditions couldn't have been more perfect. Course exceeded my expectations, and they were high expectations. Ball bounced and ran every where we hit. Interesting we had to ford a river to get to the green on a hole, never had to do that, but I was told that it's by design. COOL! Greens held when you wanted the ball to stick and ran when you wanted it to run. Our favorite of the trip.

 

Pronghorn Nicklaus: Again, it exceeded expectations. Not as good as Fazio, if I were to be nit-picky, simply because of the amount of play and the difficulty of the course. Pronghorn is our group's favorite in Bend area. I feel that these two courses make Stone Creek and Langdon look like goat tracks.

 

Widgi Creek: not memorable as we all shot terrible, but played decently. a couple greens have not fully healed from aeration, you can still see the grass growing back in the holes. rolled decently most of the time. but nowhere as smooth, fast, or receptive to spin as Pronghorn.

 

Lost Tracks: what a let down. It was a trip down memory lane for one of my buddy's who used to live in that area. He really enjoyed it in the past. Looks like it has been down on its luck. Weeds on the tee boxes, and several were quite run down. My local muni I play at, seemed to be in better condition. The island green was neat though.

 

Aspen Lakes: Much better than Widgi and Lost Tracks. I enjoyed it much more. Greens were a little spongy but also played well.

 

We enjoyed our trip immensely. Next time we may opt to play Pronghorn last as it may have skewed our perception of the other courses. Hard not to, overall, enjoy the rounds given the scenery all around. Every course had something to offer and as everyday was pretty clear - the mountains always were peeking through trees and such. Beautiful.

Played Quail Valley this morning with the usual PDX WRX crew. The course is in fantastic shape - greens are very quick and rolling super smooth.

 

High Five to DeNinny for a spectacular eagle from 190+ yds out of the rough on #10 (par 4). It was the shot of the year, thus far!

Yea, I don't know how that shot gets topped. So perfect! Was tracking the whole way. So glad I was there to see it.

 

Agree with course conditions today. Greens rolled true and quick. Very fair and the weather was perfect. Good time out there today!
