Went into my local Goodwill today. Yonex Carbon Iron 4-PW and a busted a** 4,5,7 and 9 Titleist 690 CB irons.

You've got a good start to a minimalist bag with that part set. Add a driver, a hybrid, a wedge, a putter, a sleeve of balls and a Sunday bag and you're all set!

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Yeah. a 5,7,9 bag would be great for a beginner after I add a wedge.

I'm leaning towards grabbing a 6 iron off the 'Bay since that is the demo from this set so they should be cheap, then I got a nice cavity back forged 4 through 7 partial set - all I'll need are a 8,9,PW of some nice musclebacks and I'll be good to go.

Wife completely unimpressed. Need to share with someone. Set of MP 14s, 3-pw, no browning, minor nick on sole of 9 iron, Dynalite Gold R300, original Mizuno wrap grips still tacky. $1.99 per club.

Wow wow and abit more wow! Stunning irons and for that price, just wow

Thanks. If my wife would have just said that, it would have saved me the time of posting.

Women just don't understand a man's relationship with his golf clubs. If you suggest Imelda Marcos and her relationship with shoes the mental image just isn't quite what you had hoped for, but far better than if you point to your SO's own relationship with shoes, purses, scarves, etc., etc., etc...

BTW, nice pick up! :good:

Here they are. Only one Mizuno actually. The rest are MacGregor. The MacGregor 2 iron is so small!

THE Finest iron that I've ever had in my bag and I had 5 sets across 12 years.

Guys chirp about the 87's but one, when I Played em, I came across 1 other set in Pgh(Oakmont was the only Place that carried em then) and 3 other Players who were Playin em and I Played across four states(Pa, OH, Western NY & WV) in a lot of stuff so I don't know where all these guys were then who are now claiming now to have Played them but two, they couldn't hold a candle to the 14's-

You just had to bend em to the proper gaps cuz Mizzy's QC sucked back then, lol

Japanese quality???

LMAO, yea right ?

But they were amazing!!

Great find!!

All the Best,

I played a set of 33s for a couple of years. The ONLY problem I ever had with Mizzys versus Mac blades were the Mizzy heads were so light. I had enough lead tape on those 33s to sink a big battleship. Mizzy heads even today are notorously light. I have weighed bare heads on older and modern Mizzys. Now the 59 Macs like yours are heavy in fact all the Mac heads through the FCs are heavy. Comparitively VIP heads are light. I have never had to use lead tape on any older Macs or FCs where I use it on VIPs etc. I think that is where I developed my feel for heavier irons at because early on I played either Macs or the Spalding Elite which also were a heavy head. The somewhat modern Cally 2013s I front line play now are as heavy overall as a set of FCs especially with the Project X PXI shafts. I have did the static weight on both. That is why my friend Bo-Bear could not hit them and I can. I am just tuned for a heavy club. I actually played the FCs Sunday afternoon and hit them good. Since I have lost some weight again and have been working out some I have regained strength and swing speed and can hit those heavy Pro Pels again

Yep, I "ruined" every set with the stuff, lol. I remember when I went from the Staff Tour Blades to Mizzy in '87(later edition TP9's with "Tour Proven" on wingback(called so due to muscle pad looking like a bird's wing) and "TP9" on the hosel versus initial models with "Tour Pro" and "TP9" on the wingback. The weight was fine as the 9's had that muscle pad like the Tour Blades though a different configuration however it's like they not only shaved the muscle pad off of the 14's, they also shaved the corresponding weight off, lol. I'll never forget sitting on a bench down on the line with my brand new 14's and a roll of tape and I was a bad joke away from cryin like a baby cuz I was trashing my first set of 14's?

But I was laughing shortly there after when I won my next two Clubs and caught lightning in a bottle by beating Duke Delcher in the last singles' match to upset Oakmont for the Inter Club Championship with em, and I'll never forget when we met on #1 tee and Duke looked down at my bag, gently massaged my 5i and chirped, "Oh Lord Son, what did ya do, what did ya do?," LMAO?

They may have been ugly, and God only knows what they weighed but hey, they worked, lol

Have a great week Bro?

My Best,

RP

Later edit: in Staff pic below, blade on left is retail model and pic on the right is from the custom shop. There is a reason that Mizzy basically copied the Tour Blades design save for the slight muscle pad design change...

They are arguably the Greatest iron that Staff ever released. Sam thought so, though Pete was partial to the '71 Button Backs. I also thought the '78 Tour Blades were the best, but nobody gave a **** what I thought ? Later, RP II

Forged-

The MP-14s were RH Only. So were the MP-29s..

Picked up a LH TN-87 2 iron almost 20 years ago. You had to know someone in Japan to get a set

Agree with Pete- 1971 Wilson Staff Buttonback Dynapower Irons, then the '69 Bulletbacks. Even if the Remakes were also RH Only.

Am still on the lookout for the Wilson contact person.

Nice!

You know what I'd tell my wife right? I love you but this is me and who I am and because they're not drugs or booze(well I don't do either) or another woman, they're golf clubs. Unless you have more than 10 sets of clubs, I think 5 to 10 sets are a fair amount. Right guys?

Found these woods today , need them for my golfcraft set which I'm rechroming

What year would this Wilson iron be from,

Also found a matzie chipper with wood on the back

And a John letters blade putter plus a dozen

More golf books

I hurt my neck trying to see these clubs. Rotating them is pretty easy. Just saying, don't be offended.

Do you have any advice for what to tell them after you hit 10? I'm at 9 sets not including extra shafts, putters, storage bags, and CBs (those aren't really golf clubs to me anymore...lol)?

I keep them mostly in a small 3' x 3' closet, the shop (garage) down stairs, and in the back of my truck.... Yesterday she said... "Wow you've got a lot of trash in your truck..." I said, "yea... it's just jackets and ***golf clubs*** (under my breath)." She said, "yea, I don't remember the last time riding in your truck..."

Maybe I can try that as an excuse... "Babe, those are cavity backs... (laugh) ...those aren't real clubs."

I got a set of these a couple months back. Not as cheap as that, but a little cheaper than fleabay prices. Unfortunately the 2 iron is the only thing I've taken to the course, and I only use it for punch shots when erred tee shots find their way under low lying limbs. Funny enough though, I've actually been out swinging the old 2i in the grass part behind our office during smoke breaks.
