Callaway Apex CF16 - BEST. IRONS. EVER......

Ripken08

Recommended Posts

Playing the CF16's have convinced me I need to spend even more time on the range during the weekdays. I am finding that I am air mailing some greens more. But this is not the issue of the club. When I do that, as soon as I hit it, I knew that I hit it pure and it was going to go further than I was playing for. I need to get to the point those pure shots become the norm rather than the exception. Fortunately I use Game Golf, so I am getting good information about my distances. Also I am hitting my TaylorMade Driver, Fairways, and Rescues further, so it is all clubs, not just the irons. The pro I am working with found a few little things in my swing that is making a big impact.

Went through a fitting on Saturday and settled on the CF16s with Dynamic Gold Pro stiff shafts. These clubs were so buttery with these DG Pro shafts and match my tempo perfectly. I was comparing to my MP63s and was amazed that on bad shots with the CF16s I didn't lose much distance and the bad shot dispersion was pretty close to a good shot. My MP63s punished bad swings so I'm looking forward to getting these in play. I'm picking them up on Saturday and can't wait to get them out on the course!

Would love to try these very tempted by Callaway the last few months but haven't pulled the trigger. Partly because I'm still playing well with my Titleist AP2 710 and also the fact that clubs are just gone to a crazy price!!

I might treat myself to a new set over the winter and be ready for the 2017 season. :)

Over the last year I have tried X2>AP1>I25>RSI1>RSI2>XR>XR Pro and finally Apex CF16. These have the clean lines that I feel are in between the Pro and GI versions of other clubs. I think they are plenty "hot" and feel "buttery smooth" on well struck shots. I have them in V90 shafts, and really honestly I think I am done club ho-ing for a good long while :)

I've played my first 9 holes with them, and even though they are a little too short for me, I'm very impressed. Nice high ball flight and the balls ended up close to their pitch marks. Distance appears to be about one club longer. I LOVE the sand wedge and the 4 iron.

Before the round, I extended the 7 iron by .75" and the AW by 1.25" and installed larger grips like I'm used to. The aw is much too heavy now , but the 7 is more like it. I now have to decide whether to extend them all and by how much.

Played plenty with mine now. Am a bit higher spin iron player. Only 100mph driver speed but have short arms for height and got fitted with px6.0 and inch over standard. They generate as much stop as my jpx pro 800 by generating higher flight with a little less spin. I don't fear the wind anymore!

I have now got a callaway apex UT with same shaft for a summer fairway finder and couldn't be happier :-)

Im pretty convinced that these are the best irons. Even on days when my swing is off I seem to score well. The only thing I see ever replacing them soon is maybe the black CF16's as those look sweet but I don't know how easily they were wear out on the face. The satin look still looks new after playing them all summer

I have no issues getting the ball to stop on the green with these clubs. They do spin less, but they do hold greens. My ball is usually within a few feet of the pitch mark.

agreed. even though the spin rate is lower, the irons seem to stop without difficulty on greens. perhaps it is the descent angle.

Same here. No problem stopping the ball. This past weekend I had a number of shots where my ball was plugged in or inches from the ball mark. Plus I have had some balls backup with the CF16's which I have not done in years. But I think the shaft has something to do with that also. When I switched from Nippon 950 to PX PXi in the VRS Forged, the ball flew lower but stopped faster with the PXi.

Wait. I thought Mizzy and Titleist owners did not over exaggerate club performance. They are only supposed to troll TaylorMade and Callaway owners that over exaggerate club performance. OMG this thread is a sham. I guess I am going to have trash my CF16's. NOT!!!

I still really like mine, but the clubs seem a little short in club length. Does Callaway measure their irons differently than other manufacturers? It only seems like 1/4" maybe less. I've never done shaft extensions on an iron set. Is it possible to extend that amount? Will swing weight change much adding 1/4"?

I had them lengthened +1/2" and they were 1/4" shorter than my G25s and Ping standard is 1/4" shorter than standard. Not sure but seems the CF16s may be 1/2" shorter to standard based on my experience.

They measure the same as other OEM's but they do have issues with their clubmaking in Mexico from some posts. Call Callaway CS and they will take care of you.

How do these compare to the XR Steelheads?

Here are my thoughts, FWIW: Apex will have better feel, shorter heel to toe, easier to re-shaft, better look at address for a player.
