Well I actually had the 1 iron out for one hole on our course. One of my sometimes scramble partners had talked me into trying a 3 wood again. I had found that old V-steel in my stash. Found out I could hit a stinger more consistant with it works good on that hole. If they had the tees up like they did last week I can hit the 7wood up there. In the scramble I flew my driver over the enviromental area to 120 yards from the green. Out team was discussing it in the Scramble and I told them the tees were so far up I had hit the 7 wood on Friday to where I usually hit the 1 iron or 3 wood. We had 2 balls in play so I did the driver thing and it worked. Had it been anything besides a scramble or a fun round I would have not tried it.

It's 6:20 PM here and still 100°F/ 38°C...

I know where you are coming from there. I can remember when I came down here permantly I did not go North or West of this beach for 4 years or so. I went to my home town of Charlotte and it was in the fall. I was sniffing the smells of fall and my bud asked if I had a cold or had a toot or two. Negative I told him I am savoring the smells of fall like I remembered it. Later on going inland 85 miles or so 5 days a week I could enjoy the smells of fall. Fall was always my favorite time of year with the leaves and the smells of buring leaves or wood and a little nip in the air. I always enjoyed my vintage walking rounds in the late afternoon even here. Did not get to do that last year for ovious reasons but hoping to be able this year when fall arrives. I have been testing one of those motorized push carts for another site and I am looking forward to walking vintage style this fall. The cart will help

So far none of it has shown up here but our air is being laundered every day so if it

Our weather is out of kilter this year, winter rain and plenty of it, normally dry and the temperature has dropped down further than I can remember in all the time we have been in Australia.

Got back home late last night.   The higher humidity is instantly noticeable!  Slept in late,  so still on Pacific time.

 

Garden is kinda wild,  but that's to be expected with the rains that we had.  Funny how planter boxes that get neglected go south quickly despite forgiving weather.   All in all things are in good shape. 

 

It will be interesting to see how the rust translates on the golf course.   A two week layoff has usually been good for my game if I've been struggling,  but that wasn't really the case before we left. 

 

DW beckons; off to do the weekly shop and replenish the empty fridge.

and heat with highs in the 90s F.

Down here it has been so humid and the air is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Worked the other day on the porch door changing hinges and latch. Worked about an hour and I looked like I jumped in a swimming pool with all my clothes on. I have not been going anywhere in the afternoons lately except working for an hour or so in my shop out back. I can not take the humidity like I used to part of it is my BP Meds. Yesterday our heat index was 105 and combined with the smoke from the Western fires it was hard for me to breathe outside. I did manage to go outside about 7:00 and hit balls into my net until dark.

So business this week has taken me to the Rapid City/Sturgis/Spearfish, South Dakota area and the smoke from the western fires has made for some interesting skyward views. The sun has been filtered and has a rosy to tangerine color. It's been surprisingly humid and rained everyday. As Conrad mentioned the daily rains have washed the air here for the most part and what bit of breathing issues I've encountered I attributed to the 3500-4000 ft. elevation. Maybe it is the smoke?? Temps have been sub-100's with 70+% humidity so it's been less than desirable to play golf but a man has to endure a little unpleasantness now and again for the experience, right?

 

I was able to play three different courses this week. Red Rock in Rapid City is voted the best public golf course in South Dakota. It's also in the Top 200 nationwide. I found it to be a very scenic and honestly good golf course with the best greens I've putted on this year. The staff is excellent, the price is great, the food and beverage is better than most, and I'll definitely come back when in this area.

 

The next is Elkhorn Ridge south of Spearfish. Great scenic layout with an excellent staff as well. This place is spread out over 300 acres so you're not going to walk it. There are several elevation changes and blind shots to keep you on your toes. The greens are not as undulated as Red Rock but roll just as well. It was a little windy but nothing compared to home. I liked this place. It's a good golf course and the scenery of the Black Hills makes this one worth the price. I recommend it to you as well.

 

Lastly but certainly not least is Southern Hills in Hot Springs, SD. Every person I was paired with over the previous two days told me I had to go and play this place. I'm glad I listened to them. Located about 45 miles south of Rapid City this is one of the oldest golf courses in the U.S. Its not very long but has enough elevation changes and doglegs to make it interesting. There are some very scenic holes and it just has a really cool-laid back vibe. The greens are small with plenty of undulation and is probably the best-kept course I've been on in a couple years. Everyone was so friendly and it was a really enjoyable experience. So if you are ever out this way you need to try this one as well.

 

Next week begins the 2021 Sturgis bike rally here. For those of you who don't know about this it's when a small town of around 6500 people is inundated with over 100,000 "guests", predominantly on motorcycles. It's basically a modern day version of Sodom & Gomorrah. If you are a people watcher, this is the place for you. I came up here for the rally back in '85 and once was enough for me. As Covid begins to spike around the U.S. it'll be interesting to see how many new cases are borne out of the next few weeks here. I'm flying back home this morning so I'm not gonna be around here to find out.

Rode from Charlotte to Sturgis back in the late 70s for the rally. We was there one other time in the truck and stayed a couple of days

Now last year in the middle of the Pandemic the rally went on--- I remember all the do gooders and alarmists ( snowflakes) were criticizing Sturgis and North Dakota in general for letting the rally go on. But it went on anyhow and I do not recall any reports of it being a Superspreader event.

Hazy, warm day at the pool yesterday.   My BIL's extended family was in from Ohio.  One game of volleyball with the youngins' was enough.  Did whip several of them in a game of pool PIG.  The old guy!  Boom goes the dynamite!  They couldn't make close range hook shots.  Hammered them with it, was my bread and butter BITD.  Should have heard the whine and cheese.  My fat a** was taking pictures.  No selfies.  

 

 

 

At the lake.  The bones don't take to venturing out on the jet skies anymore (get dumped off, don't know if I can get back on).  A slow cruise on the pontoon is more better.  

 

 

 

 

The deluge commenced during the drive home in the evening.  Rolled in quick.  Lightening, wind, heavy rain.  Sheesh.  

 

And an obligatory golf course pic from last Wednesday.  More trees, with some swale about.  Not to difficult of a hole if one finds the fairway off the tee.  I didn't, was blocked out on the left.  Where did that hook come from?  Carded a 7 IIRC, attempting to make the heroic shot (if I hooked it to get there, maybe I could draw it around the bend.  Nope).  Had an 87 for the day, which I was mostly happy with.  Better than most outings.  Had a bird, made a few putts.  But when one throws away strokes with one too many shanked chips and pitches, the woulda shoulda is strong.

Speakin' of pool; time for a shout out to the Canadian women who out touched their USA counterparts for the silver medal in the 4X100m freestyle relay final last night!  Congrats to the Aussie ladies who set a new WR in the process of winning the gold.  We're in the fulltime Olympics mode now with the TV on every night following coverage.  Always lots of human interest stories when the individual athletes are featured.

I'm curious what supplements you guys take. The list here has been growing and what I 

take each day has become quite a pile; almost a meal of supplements.  Cobi pretty much

does the research and decides what we need to add as time goes by. This is not a list

from a multi bottle. These are individual supplements; some of which we take in large

quantities/high potency.

 

I'm curious because 1 or more of you may be taking something we should think about

adding to our regimen.

 

All the usual vitamins with stepped up doses of Vitamin C (5,000 mg) and Vitamin D

(10,000 IUs) daily.

 

For minerals we supplement iodine, boron, zinc, selenium and iron. We add small doses 

of calcium and potassium and take a large amount of magnesium daily (400-500mg).

Minerals are in chelated form so that they are bio available.

 

We take quite a few "other" food supplements, which are; Berberine, MSM, Cinnamon

Extract, Garlic Oil Extract, Kelp. Lecithin, Red Yeast Rice w/Policosanols, Macuvision 

w/Lutein, Turmeric/Curcumin, Fish Oil, and Organic Greens in dry powder form which

we mix with water and drink. 

 

Cobi takes even more supplements than I do; which are female specific. We buy all

these things at Puritan's Pride on line. We've bought from them for many years, get

good deals most of the time and trust their products.

 

Anything else any one of you would recommend?

Ha.  Was on my way to the grocery store and had a selfie brainstorm.  Was tricky holding 5 clubs in one hand, the phone in the other.  Without dropping any onto the garage floor.  Took about 6 shots, this was the only one that came out half way decent.  Could have asked the Mrs., she wondered what the he(ll) I was doing with a hand full of golf clubs, but that would be like selfie cheating.

Take the following daily:

 

A multi-vitamin 1x.  Vitamin C 1000 mg 1x.  Fish Oil 1000mg 2x.  Aspirin 325mg 1x.  Glucosamine 1500mg 2x (suppose to be good for joints).  Sometimes in the winter, I'll take Vitamin D3 125 mcg 1x.  

 

All are Kirkland brand from Costco.  Mostly about remembering to take them.  The Mrs. sez I should take Ginko Biloba for memory.  She funny.
