Sco, I never have the luck to meet a lady golfer on the course., especially one with a nice,fluid,smooth swing, and a hard body

with a flat tummy....now I wonder if that nice fluid swing was on her back porch?  

Got a good practice round in this evening. Contact isn't there yet, nor is the distance, and still flubbing too many.

This plus stuff what is that? Some balance btw like and dislike? Generally I think this LIKE business in some versions is the worst that has happened to social media. People write to get those likes to end up high in facebook, instagram comment or whatever. If some kind of influencer writes something controversial the “top comments” will be something like “yes!! You are fantastic!!”. Comments making discussions more interesting gets buried deep down... not here though. Here a comment gets some likes and thats that. Thats ok.

 

Temperatures have been high in August after a rather chilly July here in Scandinavia. Like 29-30 C. Too hot for golf now, havent been playing for 2 weeks. Temperatures have gone down now though and I was eager to play in the weekend. But first thing I do after finishing work(from home) is to miss the last step down from the stairs to the garden and sprain my ankle. So no golf this weekend. Only golf I get today Is the European tour with a fellow countryman on top come Sunday . Wife says he looks somewhat like me when at his age. And the Ladies Open from Troon where another fellow countryman wrote som history for us in his duel with Phil a few years ago. Also the spot where Leonard stealed the claret jug from another fellow countryman.

It helps working at the course.  You get to meet lots.  All you have to do is chat them up.  They aren't scary! ?

I would welcome the fog this morning instead of the 4’c temp, the coldest morning for many years in these parts, will be around 23c or 73f later. Cannot come soon enough.

I'll take your crisp fall weather @tolmij and trade you the 36° C of yesterday.  Hopefully today won't be so bad.  I was wringing wet Saturday morning after playing and that was with a 9:30 tee time rather than the 11:00 am of this morning!

 

Went to friends for lunch and a swim yesterday after church.  It was a refreshing 85°F in the pool.  My first swim of the summer.  Haven't been in the water since February on our cruise due to COVID shutting down the pool at the YMCA which has yet to reopen.

 

Lots of false starts happening up here with various clubs and activities.  My old curling club isn't going to open until January pending the outcome of kids going back to school.  We were planning on joining the curling club in our new town, but it isn't open for registration yet.  They were talking about a regular length season, but now that's up in the air.  Checking with a friend at the golf club, her curling club is planning on opening in November and another older club isn't going to open at all due to mechanical issues.

 

My bridge group is thinking about getting back together in the winter social distancing.  Our host thinks that it's doable, but it will depend upon everyone else agreeing.

Assiduous readers will notice that I changed back to my old irons with steel R flex shafts.  Boy, what a difference that made with my iron play!  Mind you, it also helped that I managed to keep my driver in the fairway today, so that may have been the bigger difference maker.  Still, I had two legit putts for birdie under 6 feet neither or which were converted, but the attempt was good.

 

Had a couple of unfortunate chips that broke the wrong way off of a ridge that added to the putt count, but overall, I would say that I played about as well as I have in the last two months.  There maybe some decent golf left in this old carcass!

I'm just speculating, but I think as management works their way through the transition to the new/old forum template that posts/threads can get lost with each successive reboot of the system as each update is made.  I know that there were several lengthy threads, just like this one, over in the Classics section that have been lost, but can be searched for successfully using Google.  I have no explanation for why that is, it just is.

People talk a lot about short game........and a lot about driving and putting...................but, really IMO, iron play is grossly overlooked

when we break down our games. For the most part the club you're hitting into a green is an iron and hitting irons well means more

GIRs. More GIRs means more putts for birdie and less putts for bogie and worse. 

 

I bet most of us could putt well enough that if we were on every green in regulation we could play par golf or very close to it. Developing

a good short game is, essentially, developing a good back up plan; a plan B so to speak. Plan A is getting the ball on the green in

regulation to begin with. The less we have to resort to plan B the more likely we are to shoot a lower score.

Not sure if you guys like eggplant but I got a few from my moms garden along with a few tomatoes and made this. It was fantastic! The key is to definitely use vegetable oil instead of olive oil to sauté the eggplant. (But then I have a nice olive oil drizzle when it was almost done)

 

Here is the recipe and a pic of the finished product , we used fresh tomatoes instead of canned and some fresh garlic. Super delicious...we had it as a side but were thinking it would be great over pasta as well

@Conrad1953, our course is definitely a second shot course, although I still think that the tee shot is most critical.  It doesn't have to be long, but it needs to be in the short stuff.  The second shot is important because it determines whether you have a birdie chance or easy par on the well protected greens.  Lots of risk:reward holes that tempt you with birdie or eagle opportunities, but punish risk takers with double or triple bogie routinely when things go awry.  

 

Regardless of where I have played over the years, I always figured I had a good round when I struck my irons well, whether that was reflected in my scorecard or not.  A well struck iron shot hit stiff to the pin has always been my most rewarding shot in golf!

Looks a good tasty meal, we always use fresh tomatoes, tinned does not catch the taste.

Bent down to pick something up yesterday and had a click in my lower back, so more than 24 hours later I still cannot walk correctly stand and sit without a problem or reach up to take things off high shelves, when the pain sets in my legs give way so I am walking round hanging onto benches etc. A little better as of now but the planned visit to the driving range is on hold. Its as if the golf gods do not want me back on the course, either that or I am an old bugger getting past it. ? ??

Another one on the injury list here... my foot, that I sprained friday is slowly coming back into action. Some hopes for Golf in the weekend.
