Something I thought was gone is now back, so I have been doing some reading and find the normal treatment is not the best, the condition is called Polymyalgia Rheumatica and is a condition where the bodies immune system attack the muscle tissue, this causes extreme pain and makes normal movement difficult. The reading says when the steroids are near finished it can come back, and it has, the steroids are taken on a reducing regime over 12 months and I am now into the last six weeks, getting out of bed is now hurting and standing up causes my legs to seize up.

After extensive reading I have cancelled my doctors appointment and decided to try a natural remedy, will be interesting but cannot be any more painful than at present.we shall see.

I was thinking as I got up this morning that this is the best I've felt in the morning in about a month.  It's also the first of a new month.  Coincidence I know, but one can often get caught up in looking for patterns and for this lad it seems that August and November are often times my worst months for back pain.  I can rationalize November as we are in a stark change of season with our first persistent cold weather often accompanied by extended periods of rain.  I have no explanation for August, just figuring that the length of the golf season is beginning to take a toll.

Looking at the garden yesterday it struck me that I'm getting tired of this new project.  Everyday there are more tomatoes to pick and deal with in new inventive ways.  We're going to make some salsa, perhaps this weekend and I'm making gazpacho today.  The vines are just a wild tangled mess having taken over everything.  I'm looking forward to the day when I can dig them up and tidy things up, hopefully getting a few perennials moved and my pruning completed.

 

There's a distinct lack of colour to the garden, especially out front where our planters are pretty well spent and we don't have any flowering plants in as that portion of the job was never completed by the landscaper.  I would have done it myself, but he had planned to do it this summer, but hasn't made it out.  Time to move on and complete the project to our liking with someone different as there are a couple of changes that need to be made as the original idea isn't working in this location.

 

AS funny as it sounds I'm getting ready for a change in season and a change in routine.  Not sure what the winter will bring in our COVID world.  We're planning on curling and hopeful that the YMCA might reopen the pool.  Everyone is sitting on pins and needles wondering how going back to school is going to work out.  Our teachers are dead set against it and are doing their darnedest to get it scuttled as currently planned.

 

We're seeing more and more pushback to various things as people are tired of restrictions on one hand versus those that are still living in abject fear of contracting the disease.  It's not good for society as a whole.  I'm finding people are more testy with far les consideration for their fellow man than in the beginning.  Isolating yourself from others has some nasty side effects that manifest in anti-social behavior.  It seems that many are struggling to deal with this hardship.  It's not just what you see on the news, it's present everywhere.

Played yesterday in my usual Monday morning league match.  Had my most consistent round going through 7 holes until the wheels fell off in spectacular fashion!  Consecutive OB tee shots on the final two holes lead to two triples and yet another way to my almost automatic 43-45 score.

 

I keep thinking that next week will be the week where I put it all together.  Doesn't seem to be the case.  I'm beginning to wonder if part of the issue is playing up to your competition as I'm invariably a couple of strokes lower on Saturdays.  I always seem to get paired on Mondays with at least one fellow who is struggling mightily.  It's hard to get any kind of rhythm going when you're constantly searching for someone else's lost ball or you're waiting patiently on the green for your playing partners to get to the point where your ball is away.  Yesterday was a classic in that regard, but what's a fellow to do? Persevere, after all, the guys are sociable.  Now I understand why the best players in the league have a set foursome (which I don't happen to agree with, but I'm not the convener).  Sour grapes I realize, but I need to learn to overcome this.

The once semi-tidy tomato garden has gone askew.  Letting it go at this point.  The tomatoes need picking every couple of days, along with the corresponding "processing".  This morning's pick.  

 

 

Saucing.  Simmer on the stove over a day or so to reduce by 2/3's.  Yields two stink'n pints.  Super concentrated though.  

 

 

First time growing Amish Paste tomatoes.  They're superb.  Growing more of these bad boys next year.

 

 

Roasting on the grill.  Evaporates much of the liquid, concentrating the flavor.  

 

 

Have lots of canning jars in inventory.  Except canning lids are no where to be found this year.   And I've looked everywhere.  Local hardware store said they might get some in latter this week.  And I'd better stop by first thing, otherwise they'll be gone.  Almost out of my meager supply.  Likely have to start freezing sauce in ziplocks from here on out.  Saving the remainder of lids for salsa.

The gazpacho is made.  I had a mug for lunch.  Holy mackerel is it spicy!  I used a variety of tomatoes along with 3 peppers from the garden -- one red, one green and one jalapeno.  When I got done processing the cucumbers, onion and peppers the liquid on my fingers pretty near burnt my tongue!

 

I`m hoping that it will mellow out as it develops in the refrigerator overnight.  I nice loaf of garlic bread with cheese would help I think as the gazpacho seems a bit more like a salsa condiment than a cold soup.

Always grew tomatoes until we moved to our present house, then all attempts were stopped by the local possum population. They are really good at breaking in to places and no matter what we did they always managed to get them. 
 

Another smaller problem we have are Cockatoos, they love lemons and take great delight in taking them off our tree.

 

At our last house we grew grape tomatoes and they were that successful we kept all the neighbours well supplied. Love home grown, always taste better than shop bought.

 

Good crop there fella, very jealous.

Sounds a really good meal, we are into very hot and spicy food, two things we put in almost everything is chilli and garlic, plenty of both, jalapeño being one of our favourites because of the unique taste it gives.

DW said it was garlicy.  I find that hard to believe as I only put in two small cloves.  I used parsley, but in the future I think that I`m going to use cilantro based on the heat level.

Sorry to hear that Tolmji. They can't give you anything for the pain?

I usually spend time in the gym during the offseason, but with this Covid thing I am not sure that will be a viable alternative. I like to do a good hour on the treadmill at a brisk paced...am not sure I can do that wearing a mask. Our tomatoes are finally staring to come in. Still a bit green though. 

 

Since I moved up to the senior tees, I have been consistently shooting in the 70s, including two rounds of 71...par 70. I am losing fewer balls as well...my home course is littered with hazards. It's an easy walking course, so I am getting my exercise in as well. Around 6 to 6 and a half miles daily.

WE have memberships at our local YMCA and that has yet to open indoors.  We may let the membership lapse under the circumstances particularly if the pool remains closed.

 

I still have my road bike even though I don't ride anymore and I was thinking that I could mount it on a trainer and ride stationary indoors in winter for exercise rather than gymming it.  Combine that with some floor exercises and it would be better than nothing.

 

We're hopeful that curling will indeed happen on some level.  The plan is to open in November, but that could be altered depending upon how going back to school turns out.

yes steroids that are reduced over a twelve month period, but they are not really good for you. I am at the end of the treatment and it has come back, now trying a dietary approach.

Good idea mounting your road bike on a trainer! Watch a movie and peddle away. ?

Well guys I am sorta back My old patched together computer finally blew up in a blaze of glory. Got a new one today and can not get signed in on here or the other blog I go on. I just may give up period Anyhow I am doing good back wise and the doc is letting me get back to hitting balls along with therapy I am still out of a truck until at least the 1st of Nov Debating on going back or not depends on what my settlement is and if my back can hold up. Got the glitch fixed I think since changing my password. May still get booted here because I sent them a little terse e mail

welcome back Stu, I agree they don't seem to like criticism, I complained last week and was not received very well.

Todays lunch was a lovely home made curry, DW does an excellent job and they are very spicy. Usually we also have a chutney with it and today we had an Indian chilli chutney, we purchase it from a local butcher/vegetable store and they import it from India. Until we tried it we thought we produced hot spicey food but this was about 20 levels up from our hot, the taste was fantastic and the heat was stomach numbing, to prove a point we finished half a jar of it with lunch.

So we've owned and lived in this nice old house, built in 1924, for 17 years now. We have done many things to update it, but one of the biggies I have wanted to have done is to replace the galvanized pipes from the street to the house, and then the ones in the basement as well leading to the fixtures inside the house. Well my dream has come true in the last week. We have had a company out which are experts at this. I am attaching a pic of 2 shots of a cut section of the pipe from underground leading to the house. It would have been there since 1924, a mere 12 years after the Titanic sank... and to think we were using water from this pipe. Good thing we had a water filtering system for drinking water. By the way, I can't remember how to start a post today, so I'm not sure if I'm responding to someone else's post or starting a new one, sorry...

I hope you gave'em a good earfull !! They have done a fantastic job getting it back to the old format,while maintaining the site

improvements, but there do seem to be some glitches that are just totally like its a 4th world country. I have a good pic for all you drivers

I remember many years ago when water pipes were lead, it was funny moving to a house where even the main pipe into the house was plastic. Bet the water filter cartridge did not last long with those pipes.

Exactly what we said. Then we were blown away (literally) by how the showers and dish washer and clothes washer worked. But the kitchen faucet  and the toilets didn't work at all. The little filters and the small cages inside them were completely clogged, thanks to YouTube I was able to take them apart and clean them properly.

Actually there is no water filter cartridge coming into the house. And it is not code for the pipes coming into the house to be plastic, they must be copper here where we are. So now I can't wait a hundred years from now to see how nice our water still is, I'll let you know...?
