Solar panels are working well, but surprise surprise, not as well as most salesmen would have you think.

The company we purchased from were honest enough to tell us the standard package 6.6 kw would not give a very large discount on the electricity bill. We cannot fix them on the best orientation to take full effect of the sun, and looking at the results on the AP the feed from the panels alters drastically when there is cloud cover. Our salesman suggested a 13.2kw package and this looks as if we will get a faster return and pay off the cost with savings. 
We are generating between 25/50 kw a day depending on sun intensity, we use around 17 during the day up to 2kw/ hr, the rest is fed back into the grid and we are paid around one third of the normal price, this is taken off our quarterly account.

Another month to go before we can fully check the results but if it halves our bills we will be happy.

So the UK goes back into Lockdown on Thrusdays for a month, which means no golf until December at best. 

 

My concern is that the lockdown will continue until Christmas or maybe be even beyond it. This is all a result of people not following the guidelines and thinking themselves above the law.

that seems to be the situation in the UK and America, conspiracy theorists have much to answer for.

A few weeks ago over 200 students at University were busted having a rave. I see so many people not wearing masks (which is now mandatory in all commercial buildings) and just not caring about others welfare.

Good luck with the lockdown.  Some people are calling for one here.  Fortunately saner minds have prevailed so far because I don't think there's much stomach for another go at it.  People will just do what they're gonna do.  Hopefully the targeted approach will keep case loads manageable.

The problem I have that requires steroids is finally after nearly 15 months starting to disappear, for the first time today I can feel my strength coming back. Managed a long hard stretch in the garden, digging out shrubs we want to change, hand mowing the bases of our fruit trees and generally getting my hands dirty. Taking it easier tomorrow but I can finally see the way out of this nightmare. Somedays I have hardly been able to function, I started to put it down to age but now stuff it lets get back into the action

Hi Tol, (and all actually)... thanks  Yes, it's been quite interesting. The best thing first off is no more advertising. This year even pesky texts and emails. But in my 69 years I've not seen such smearing and whatnot from both sides, but I guess that's what it takes to outduel each other now, kinda sad. I remember when I went to college and wanted to be a political reporter, yikes. Not sure if we'll get an outcome today, probably some antics will continue... 🤪😲😩😵

Toj, my friend, a lot of us have watched with total disbelief and a lot of dis-like for the insults, dirty playing, and down right 

lies, and from both sides, not just one. I for one, am totally fed up with it. the TV to day has no news on, and will have none all evening.

LOL  The one thing i have discovered over 74 years is that other than a war, it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference which

party is in power. One side gets the rich richer with tax breaks, the other side gets the rich richer by getting the middle class more wages, and they spend it, making the rich richer.. ...   but in the end, its ours, and we will hopefully, over the years get it right.

Not really a major happening, something we have been expecting for a long time. Our favourite chicken passed away this morning. We have been surprised because the normal life span of this breed is three years, fluffy as was her name was over five years old, good layer in her day, buried next to our sons last cat, a red Burmese called Quasimodo.

I didn't even realise this was a thing (Persimmon Golf Society on Facebook) let alone that most are from the UK. I never see anyone playing old school Persimmon. That's probably because finding Persimmon in worth condition is as likely as winning the lottery.

I don't know man those guys seem to find a lot. If you have a FB account go over there they are a friendly knowledgeable bunch. We also have a good friendly bunch here on WRX in the Classic Golf and golfers section. In fact quite a few are from across the big pond and they have really educated me on clubs made in the UK

When I first started playing golf, 54 years ago I think, many of the golfers in our club had persimmon clubs, cant remember how the clubs played but there were some very good amateurs amongst them.

The irony regarding UK clubs was that growing up Spalding had a factory in my village, only a 10 min walk away. We regularly dumpster dived for club and found some gems. Sadly growing up I fell into the newer is better idea and got rid of many late period persimmon and early cast clubs.

Well amid the covid mitigation in our area being issue by the governor, meaning no restaurants or bars allowing patrons inside, our county decided to overrule him by creating their own mitigation rules, 1/4 capacity and mask must be worn in all stores with fines being issued for offenders, I ventured out to my favorite breakfast place. I ordered 2 eggs scrambled, ham, American fries( fried potato slices) and marbled rye toast. It was very good. Many of the other counties are also doing the same. That is all.

Our own state premiers have ignored the federal government and the results have been much better. In Queensland we are still asked take it easy but shopping this week you would not think anything as wrong apart from no one coming anywhere near you. Life goes on because most were acting as they should so no one was spreading it around, and the contact tracing is working well.

PGS is quite interesting.  Although a number of contributors have pristine, restored examples of "best of breed" persimmons.  Some to a level of perfection that one would never take them out and hit golf balls.  For display only.  Never see anyone playing persimmon either.  Other than myself on occasion.  It's a unique challenge, always reserved for a solitary round.  So as to not embarrass myself in public view.  But when you clip one "on the screws", it's unique sensation that cannot be replicated with any metal club.  Fun to take out for a bat around occasionally.  

 

I keep finding persimmons in decent playable shape with some regularity.  Just have to be on the lookout for them.  Maybe not those primo Mac EOM's of yore, but quality persimmons of newer vintage that are good players.  Not to pristine as to be concerned with mucking them up.   Around here, PB Citations are seemingly plentiful and often can be acquired cheap.  Have several sets now after picking these up at an estate sale a month or so back for less than $10.00.  What I like about these is that they are shafted in regular flex.  Many of the persimmons are stiff shaft (S400 or stiff Pro-Pels), less than suitable for swing ability these days.  The Citations on the right need some tidying up, new grips if they are to played, a recoat of poly, but they are solid with intact windings.  

 

 

Noticed you mentioning Spalding from BITD.  Have had these Model 18's (mid-50's?) for several years.  Another thrift store find on the dirt cheap.  Decent shape, somewhat unique in that the fairways are the half woods, leather grips in excellent condition.  Never hit a golf ball with them, just reside in a bag in the basement.  Started cleaning them up, then stopped.  I'd  send them to you if you resided state-side (shipping to GB likely crazy expensive).  The insert on these caught my eye:

Yes, the classic MacGregor EOM's from the 50's are much sought after and command high prices when found.  M43's (Norman's driver), M85 & M75, 945's (Nicklaus' D), 693's.  Lefty's are going to command a premium.  Like to find a LFF deep face for S&G's one day.  We all know what LFF means....don't we?  Only run across a couple of these, never a D.  Had a decent M43 2 wood for awhile, but never played it so was sold off.  Have a really nice reconditioned 693 3 wood that I picked up somewhere along the way.   Unfortunately reshafted with a TTDG S400.  Took it out (for the first time) last week.  No bueno.  The Ping E2's are not persimmon, but seemingly can play them the best when a notion for whacking wood.

Got y'all beat!  Only been playing for 14 years...  Not that that matters a whit.

 

Gonna play on Monday with a few of the boys from men's league.  We're smack dab in the middle of Indian summer up here with temps in the high teens for several days.  Curling is gonna have to wait, well at least for a day.

 

Curled three times this week.  It's really strange joining a new club and not knowing anyone.  Everyone wears a mask the entire time.  It's not much fun.  I wear glasses so they're always fogged up.  It's constant struggle.

 

With  no socializing before or after it's just bodies on the ice.  You wouldn't recognize a person if you met them on the street.  Everyone is as friendly as they can be, but it's all just so impersonal.

 

I can't say that my game has been any great shakes.  About the same as golf.  A few good shots and plenty of not so good shots or not quite good enough shots.  I know it's early so not fair to gauge just yet, but it does seem that some of the folks I've been playing against are playing at quite a high level already.  Ran into a real buzzsaw last night.  WE were leading 7-2 and gave up 7 in the last two ends to lose 9-7.  Every game this week came down to the final shot and we were on the losing end each time. 😕

You are losing because of the mask, you cannot give them the death stare.

I rather doubt that @tolmij.  It is a bit surreal though when you can't see and you can't hear ( because of the mask) you end up thinking; gee, this must be what it's like for those folks who do blind bowling/curling.  The only difference is you don't have a spotter lining you up and conveying the information of what you are being required to do.  It all becomes a bit of a guess.

 

Ordered a couple of masks with relief values to see if that makes any difference.  I feel it's going to be an ongoing search to find something with the necessary utility when it comes to athletic activity.  Most activities are requiring continual mask usage.  Less of an issue if you don't wear glasses, but a big problem if you do.  I've even considered getting disposable contacts as a last resort.

When we were mask wearing in shops quite often they could not understand us, I suppose it always helps if we were sober.😬
