What's Cheerwine?

The best soda ever. https://cheerwine.com/about

I grew up absolutely LOVING a soda called Kentucky Nip. It was a maraschino cherry flavored soda that got discontinued. I will have to get to a world market STAT.

Supposedly it was rebranded as Sioux City Cherries and Mint...but does NOT taste the same.

Yes!!!!!!!!!

I had two 3 putts and a lost ball in the first 5 holes.

With 17-2 looming?!?!?!?

For the first time in 4 days I didn't birdie 16.

4 fairways 4 pars. Redemption!!!!

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

I'm not sure how they structured the tee times during the week, but since Monte teed off on the back 9 all week, i'll assume that everyone in the field has teed off all four rounds the same side as they did today.

There's a pretty stark contrast as to the results based on which side someone teed off. The top half (39/77) has ONE person that started on the back. The bottom have (38/77) has ONE person that started on the front...and he's T39 right now...

Based off score after first round so leaders tee off front. The one exception in top scores was -6 today so made a big leap.

Now play #1 and #2 smart...

You need to lay off the "advice". 99.9% of golfers hate unsolicited advice, and Monte's not asking it from you. Not to mention you're not there watching the shots he's hitting. Saying to play holes smart is rude.

Hahaha! I was thinking out loud (by typing on a message board) - not giving 'advice' to a player in that is in competition. Players, or their caddies, shouldn't be using electronic devices connected to the Internet during competition anyway. That would be grounds for DQ I would certainly think. But, maybe it's different up there in Canada...

Thought phones or anything with an internet connection wasn't allowed, is this not the case in qualifying?

Probably not allowed, but once I shot 82 the first day, I took a chance.

It's definitely not allowed, That being said you did the same thing last night with your advice. You layed out an entire game plan for him. Just say good luck like everyone else. He knows how to make his way around a golf course. Pros have off weeks where they don't find the centre of the face.

I'm a pro myself, and I learned very quickly to not offer advice unless it's asked of me. Someone could be teed up backwards and I still wouldn't offer advice until they turn to me and say "what am I doing wrong?" As a pro, I know that I don't know exactly what the conditions are like down there and I also understand bad weeks. Just please take my advice and stop giving unsolicited advice.

I agree. Unfortunately on this course it's a huge disadvantage to start on the back.

Paul McGinley is a really cool guy. After this week I have a lot of respect for him.

We're standing on #9 tee today and Monte has honors. About 20 yards behind us in a treetop is a hawk that's screeching up a storm and won't shut up. Monte looks up from his ball at the bird and goes "Huh, reminds me of my ex-wife." Paul and the other guy in our group burst out laughing. Too funny.

At the end of the round, Paul gave his ball and hat to the walking scorer. He jokingly said the guy could have his clubs too after how bad this week was. You can tell he's just a really good guy. I think he's the one person that hates the Magnolia course more than Monte.

I didn't play poorly because of the 9 I started on. I played poorly because I let the the layout of 4-5 holes, the difficulty in judging the wind and trickiness of the grain force me into uncommitted shot attempts.

So, -1 was the number and Van de Velde just made it.

I just wonder how many of those finishing in 6th thru 30th will try to Monday qualify. That's a grueling and expensive path that can't have a very good percentage of playing in the tournament.

probably most of them... they didn't go out to orlando for fun....

At one point Scott Parel made like 6 or 7 Monday's in a row, could have been 9. But as a Monday qualifier, he played a pretty full schedule of 15 events.

There were about 20 guys that played most of the Monday qualifiers the past two years. (I haven't counted them, top of head number,)

Kraft,Boris,Inman, parel,Kendall,Burke,Carter,Clearwater,Horgan,Martin,Bruckner, etc. There were More, but a core group plays most of the qualifiers. It is not easy, but if you play well, the scores are not outrageous to qualify.

There is also a big number of players already exempt in to Monday's that were not at q school that play a decent number of them.

There is also a surprising number of players who play a lot of the pre qualifiers to get in to the Monday's

If you remember Bruce Fleisher....when he came out to play on the "regular" tour BITD....he was highly regarded for his amateur career, but was continually playing Monday qualifiers, and not really qualifying for a lot of events.

Fast Forward to when he turned 50...he basically ran the table for a few years on the Sr Tour.

Monday qualifying is just what it is, and if playing the bigger game is what you target as a goal, then you do whatever it takes to reach that goal. Monday qualifiers are character builders, making players stronger....mentally and physically.
