Monte I feel your pain...... The last two years I have played in a tourn at all the Disney courses. The magnolia is a very "frustrating" course. For me the grain on the greens was really tough. This year I was down there the end of sept. The last round I played on magnolia I hit every green on back nine and only shot -1. Only bird was from a two putt on hole 10. This was one of those days I was hitting it really well and had tons of makeable putts. So frustrating that really effects all parts of my game..... I have seen more temper tantrums thrown on this course than any other. Lol

For those of you who have never played the course not only are the greens tricky but any miss is really punished. What's strange is that it doesn't look that tough but next thing you know you are making a double..... on the other hand long hitters get easy birds on 10, 4 and 8 all very reachable par 5 s if u can get tee ball in play.

Every time I played the course I have started on 10. Holes 17, 18 and 1 I think are the toughest on the course. Some holes just don't fit players eye. Hole 2 is a hole I really like. Butter cut off tee and wedge in. With that being said I have only played blue tees 7000ish yds. I am really surprised they stretched it out to 7500 for a senior event.

For what it's worth here is how I play 17,18 and 1 from tee.

17- hybrid or 3 wood depending on wind. Something that won't get to the right bunker. Aim at the right bunkers and try to hit a small draw leaving mid iron in. Takes out left water and the canal over bunkers.

18- hardest driving hole on course to me. Very tight but long. I hit driver here favoring rt side of fw little more room rat and I have made a big number from left fw bunker. Bottom line gotta hit it good here or make a number.

1- hate this hole. Everyone favors rt side because left is dead but that damn big tree on rt reeks havoc then if you hit it way right water comes back into play. After being hooked behind the trees on rt so many times I now just hit hybrid no matter what wind is doing. Gotta hit fw here and leaves mid ish iron in.

2- as I said above I really like this hole just fits my eye...

Sorry the week hasn't gone the way you wanted but s*** happens. Great experience.

Monte, I would like for you use what you've admittedly learned over the first three days about this course and about your game - and put that knowledge to use tomorrow. If you'll play those four holes of #1, #2, #17 and #18 smartly tomorrow it will prove something very valuable to you. Make it your goal to protect your score on those four holes, which means a par is good and a bogey is okay...and if you can somehow sneak out a birdie, it's an unexpected gift. Be smart about it - hit whatever it takes to put the ball in play, and keep it in play. I don't care if you tee-off with a mid-iron, or hit 20 foot high stingers - whatever it takes to guarantee you can put club-on-ball for your next shot until the it's holed-out. Forget what your fellow competitors do - learn to play the game your way - play your game.

we do get presumptuous don't we, Internet hacks that we are.

What's Cheerwine?

In a nutshell? Delicious...

In seriousness: Cheerwine is a Soda/Cola/Pop/whatever that has a strong Cherry Flavor. Completely unlike a Cola with a hint of Cherry like Cherry Coke or Dr Pepper with Cherry. Also, the aftertaste does not linger.

That's about as useful as describing color to the congenitally blind.

Chicago is done. Going to schedule.

Orlando and Phoenix are close.

All other locations have 2-3, so if you are interested, sign up so we can set a date.

Orlando likely weekend after golf show. Phoenix in February.

Vegas and Palm Springs are going to need more to get on the schedule.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

All right... Have you ever had a Maraschino Cherry? Kinda like the ones you get on a Hot Fudge Sundae? Or maybe come with a Milkshake from McDonald's or Chik-Fil-A? It has that type of taste but with the carbonated liquid of normal soda. The aftertaste is very mild, if much at all.

I'll have to snag some next time I'm somewhere with a World Market.

I just want to thank all of you for the support. Especially the part where you guys understood I was venting while playing poorly and not making excuses.

We all wish we could play like you. And it's really fun to read about your experience and responses. You're a communicator. Well, often a one letter communicator ('k')

The fact that this course ate your lunch ... at least 4 holes did .... I was wondering if it was your knee or if the situation (new level of stress, competition, etc). And sometimes, it's just golf. Stupid damn game played by pure idiots.

However I did think one thing from Schnee's description. If you're going to try again next year, you might spend the next year playing a lot of courses you hate. Go play the Babe or Rustic or wherever you hate playing the most. Canyon courses that are penal and windy or whatever. I would assume the courses where the next year finals are held will be knowable reasonably prior to the event so you can see what it presents. But mainly from what I read your most substantive challenge is holes that suck for you. The brain farts dont seem as big a problem (they happen after the horses have left the barn) as the holes that need to be managed better.

Anyway, damn I enjoyed watching this unfold over the year. It gives arm chair quarterbacks like me a chance to try to imagine what rising to the occasion is like. You da man.

Or alternatively, just go shoot a 54 tomorrow.

And now for some levity...

We went to 4 Rivers Smokehouse today for some food. It was brilliant.

has there been any deposits for SC? or within driving distance of Charleston? If so, I'll try to save up quickly and get a deposit in as well. RDU could work, but that is a far trek for me.

Forever Changing at this point.......

What's Cheerwine?

It's a southern thang

Haha, I guess so! I've honestly never heard of it, only drank sweet tea three times I've been in the south.

I've had sweet tea when visiting the South. It was kind of like sipping on liquified sugar cubes. The sugar water in the hummingbird feeder out front is less sweet.

I also learned on that trip that I don't speak Folkston (GA) because I wasn't able to order a pepperoni pizza from a teen behind the counter at a pizzeria there. My wife had to step in as an interpreter. :D

Monte, sorry this hasn't turned out as hoped. I was rooting for you.

What's Cheerwine?

The best soda ever. https://cheerwine.com/about

I grew up absolutely LOVING a soda called Kentucky Nip. It was a maraschino cherry flavored soda that got discontinued. I will have to get to a world market STAT.

I'm not sure how they structured the tee times during the week, but since Monte teed off on the back 9 all week, i'll assume that everyone in the field has teed off all four rounds the same side as they did today.

There's a pretty stark contrast as to the results based on which side someone teed off. The top half (39/77) has ONE person that started on the back. The bottom have (38/77) has ONE person that started on the front...and he's T39 right now...
