Will a metallic marker work (I saw early on that it would -- but was hoping maybe this was updated more recently).

 

Can metallic sharpies be used instead of stickers? Not currently but we are working on other solutions.

I'm waiting to get my stickers in hand but I'm still curious why this is. Is the metallic marker not reflective enough? I figured that I'd play with it for a bit before calling to ask. If I could use a silver sharpie, that would be a HUGE win.

anyone got good results using it on grass?

I have a lie board and use that to set the mevo on rather than the grass. Makes it more stable and easy to slide the board around when finding fresh grass to hit off of.

Edit: Reread your question. I get 100% capture of every shot off grass.

Yes. But, Flightscope says spin is estimated if stickers aren't used.

Metallic sharpies don't do much. At least indoors. I tried different colors and even scribbled all over a ball. I verified with my skytrak. With stickers it trended well...With markers it would default back to generic spin numbers based on club selection.

 

It picks up fine without stickers. They just help increase the accuracy. If you are a decent ball striker and aren't purposely hitting weird spinners, it will be close enough without the dots.

I envy you in a way. It must be so less stressful just being able to buy what you want instead of having to figure out ways to buy things that cost $1,800 and convince the wife they only cost $400 :yes: ... takes to much strategy - slush fund, undisclosed club sales, cash back at grocery store, etc....

Same here. I just bought 3 Callaway Epic Fairways, a new driver shaft, and new shafts for my irons. And of course I will have to get numbers for all of them with my Mevo.

I finally got to try mine out yesterday at a grass range. I set it about 4 feet behind the ball and hit some 8 and 9 irons. I did well and the the distances were what I would expect. I didn't use the dot so I can't comment on spin rate.

 

One thing I noticed is that it seemed to take a while after each shot for the mevo to capture, process the data and say it was ready. In the time it was processing I could hit 1 or 2 additional balls. Is anyone else experiencing this?

What phone are you using? If is an older phone, it would have a slower processor which would cause it take longer to process the shot information and display it.

If you don't use stickers your numbers will be next to useless for the driver as it will just guess. You might as well use es14.

 

The carry numbers won't be that far our with irons as your estimated spin is very likely to be within 1000 revs of your actual

Had it out to the range (grass) twice now. Some comments:

 

- App interface (Android) is stable, haven't detected any bugs.

- At first it was registering only half the shots. Had to set the Mevo on top of the box lid, raising it 1", and then it registered almost all shots.

- I think its CHS is 2-3mph high with the driver. Ball speed seems bang-on.

- I think launch angle is sensitive to relative height of ball and Mevo. If Mevo is too low, I think it registers too high a launch angle.

- Really excited about using it to dial in pitch and wedge distances. Makes is easier to gamify practice.

 

Overall pretty happy with it. Any improvements in the app are a bonus, if/when they happen.

Just bought a Flightscope X2 elite with a point grey camera. Pretty nice with high speed videos. Spent less than Trackman. So now the progression has been BEL SS, SC100, SC200, MEVO (used but never owned after canceling original order), Skytrak (irritating couldn't use yellow balls), Flightscope. Wife is an engineer and asks why not a Trackman instead of fiddling around with less capable equipment. Wanted to try built in video (on top of unit). Wish I would have known all I had to do was explain it to her and the shortcomings of the other units seemed to offset the prices. But I will have to get rid of flightscope before acquiring a Trackman. I always thought she would think it was stupid to have something as fancy as a Trackman. Just shows after decades of marriage you don't know everything about your spouse.

There is a separate flightscope skills app, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with the Mevo or not
