2017 Srixon Z star XV

Got 6 ball trial pack for $9.99 which is like half the price

Feel - it is firm, playing Chrome soft and TPX it is definitely firmer feel, which I like with the driver, irons and wedges but with putters it does feel rather firm

Distance- very high launching with low spin, no ballooning and very stable in the cross wind! love love love this part of the ball. This ball gets nice roll and IT IS LONG

Durability- This part shines! played white version and the cover I think has the best durability in all balls

Spin of the wedge shots- great spin, i think it is more grabby than prvious versions

Conclusion- I think it will be my gamer for 2017 for sure and now trial pack going to dozen for $20 how cam you top that!

Great review. I had a chance to try a prototype of the ball in the fall and this matches exactly with what I found. The one thing I'll add to this is that the ball seems to perform better the faster you are. It was very playable for me at 105-108, but it really shines for my friend who is a 115-118 guy.

The last part is music to my ears. Anxiously waiting!

Played them for the first time this weekend as well. Loved them. I never seem to settle on a ball for long, but I think after 2 rounds this has turned into my gamer for '17. Long and straight off the driver, with plenty of greenside spin. I'll play white until the $10 6-packs are gone, then switch to yellow for visibility sake!

I really don't know what Srixon is thinking here. It's awesome that they're willing to sell a 6 ball trial pack for $10, but I'm now able to pick up a dozen for $20. Srixon has got to be losing a ton of money with this initiative ...

It is a marketing move. I don't know if they are losing money or not, but even if they are, think about all of the advertising they are getting out of this. My guess is someone in accounting said "we can make and run a commercial X number of times for the same amount of money that we can spend on selling Y trial packs of golf balls" and they chose to sell the balls rather than make the commercial. I'd guess this is money better spent since a) people will talk about the balls they bought whereas they won't really talk about a commercial they saw and b) Srixon gets the golf balls out on the course where people tell their playing partners about them or hit them in the woods where someone else finds them and tries them out.

You can get trail packs at golf galaxy. I've played both once. The Z Star spins like nothing else. Backed up a gap wedge 7 feet from 100 yards with partial swing. Soft feel too. The XV is long. Flying a 9 iron from 150 over the green at 58 degrees was interesting. Both stop dead on flop shots. XV doesn't feel as firm as you might think with 105 compression.

I just picked up a few bonus packs and could not be happier. I've played the Z Star on and off for the last few years and like the ball. I picked up a few 15 ball packs that they put out last year on special and had plenty for the entire season. Was thinking about doing the same with the 6 ball packs, but was limited to 2 packs...Oh well at $39 a dozen it is a great price for a premium ball. Get your SRIX ON!!

I really like the xv but it just spins a little too much for me. I walking scored for McGirt and Knox (both zstar players - not xv) and one of them said he played the vanilla zstar bc the xv spun too much. I can't remember which one told me.

I feel the XV spins more as well off the irons and on shorter shots, not so much off the driver.

I also feel the Z-Star spins a little less of irons and shorter shots but a little more off the driver.

All this time I thought it was just me.

Personally I am not a high spin player so neither ball bothered me in this regard; I wish I could spin back a shot. I feel like I have had some issues with the normal z star with iron distance which is why I switched off of it. Have yet to notice that with XV. I know the xv is a harder compression but notice no difference even though my swing speed is probably under 100. I always struggle with which type to play, hard vs soft. Played xv 2015 vs chrome soft in a December round in NJ. Noticed no lost distance off irons and was the clear winner on drives both length and flight. XV seems to have a great flight off the driver and feels like it is more consistent than most balls in the softer range including the regular Zstar. Both Zstars have been the longest off the driver for me over any other (whether that is just coincidence I cannot say). I have not played the 2017 balls but have played both of the previous versions with spin skins. Will definitely be picking up some of the new XV's and debating at least a sleeve of the regular Z's to compare.

Zstar has lower ball flight than XV and it also has much softer feel, so stable and controlling the trajectory easy- You can get trial packs of the big box stores.

More I play with these ball more I am loving them

Are you mixing the Zstar and the XV in regard of ball flight?

According this page:

http://www.srixoneurope.com/en_FR/zstar-balls.html

...the Zstar is said to launch 0.7 degree higher than the XV - if struck with a driver...

...and both have the same aerodynamics...

...and the Zstar has also the higher spin numbers in this case...

...thus, I would expect the XV to have a lower ball flight.

Has anyone played these in comparison to last year's models? I know you can get snag those for a good price right now.

I still have bunch of last years model, this years ball in so much better, feel with the xv with the driver and irons are pretty much the same but the spin both wedge, full and partial and also with the driver is much better. definitely longer than last years and better durability. THE BEST BALL tested so far this year. I thought B330S was going to be hard to beat but I think 2017 Zstars are the best ball on the market, can't wait to test it against the New TP5s
