Will Tiger play at Riviera? Tiger Withdraws From Genesis And Honda (merged)

Hate to say it from a big tiger fan... but it is over.... His career is over. Sad day.

I am one of the biggest Tiger fans too and I think the tournaments are better when he's competing in them. I have continued to argue that he's the greatest ever and he will make it back and maybe even to the top again. I guess I was dreaming cause I'm actually starting to think exactly like you. I know golf is the greatest game ever and will be just fine but I still feel it's a sad day if this truly is the end for Tiger and an extremely memorable era !

announcer jobs aren't for anyone. Save for a few guys, announcer jobs are for journeymen and guys who love to hear themselves talk. Plus, networks don't have the cash that he would demand for that gig.... not to mention we have enough,"When I played...." week in and week out.

Yeah, and George Costanza could broadcast for the Yankees.

Tiger is not well spoken or charming in any way. Socially awkward. Doesn't have the skills to be a broadcaster/announcer.

Frankly the end of the era was Thanksgiving 2009. Everything since then has just been different shades of weird. Even in '13 when he had a really good season by mortals' standards he was playing this weird little pull cut with a weird looking swing taught by a weird little Canadian.

The guy never listen to his doctors from the beginning they told him to stop as Reggie Lewis(Celtics) did not stop playing basketball. He acted like a know all and this is where it got him or his game suc@s and he is frustrated embarrassed.

Tiger Woods, the man who absolutely hates the spotlight and being in public, going into broadcasting? Even if he lost his billion dollar fortune, I can think of about a thousand things off the top of my head he'd do instead.

Tiger is set up for a Hogan like retirement. Rarely step into the spotlight ever again, but stay active in business. Tiger's not done though. His schedule will surely reduce, but he'll fire some ridiculous rounds at the Medalist and decide he's ready for the Masters, the Open, etc., for years to come.

Former professional golfer. Current amateur human being.

^^^ but couldnt you say the same thing about Duval? I was pleasantly surprised by DD...

Earlier in his career I think you could say yes. Duval gives a lot of credit to his wife for helping him open and and be a more trusting, giving person.

Back spasms keeping him out indefinitely? Back spasms are a way of the body saying stop doing that. Muscles strained, torn, nerve impingement, herniated disc...all start with back spasms. Once back is calmed down there doesn't appear any way to prevent it from constantly being a problem. If he hasn't gotten the back strong enough after all this time it isn't going to happen. It appears nobody since Harmon and Haney have been able to give him a swing that doesn't irritate his back. Relax enjoy your kids, money, and play 9 hole games with your buddies, and use a cart. Now from time to time he hints that Harmon and to a lesser extent Haney were the reasons for his knee and later back problems. As Harmon said it wasn't golf that wrecked his body it was his work in the gym. Haney went further saying his addiction to playing navy seal did more harm than any golf swing. Always laugh about the seals comments on his "training". Did mostly the easy stuff and was cheap beyond belief (guess he didn't buy them popsicles).

yea because swinging the golf club isnt re injuring his back or anything, lol. Hes been working out for years and the only times his back gets reinjured is during his golf swing. Id say its the swing causing the issue

I am a 2nd Year Physical Therapy Student and can assure you if tiger was having back spasms this week they would be taken care of and he would be playing next week. There is something els going on here.

There it is guys. The fabled "second year physical therapist student diagnosis assurance".

This seems like the end... I hope to god it's not but you can't deny the reality that his back is beyond repair

My prediction is that we don't see him again until the Masters and then there will be an announcement

Sad but I would prefer to just remember the 97-08 Tiger over watching him limp around the course like this

Hindsight is 20-20. Never should have tried to play Army man. Never should have messed with his swing after 2000. What might have been.

The more i think about why Tiger isn't playing, it occurred to me he isn't playing Riviera due to poor weather conditions the last couple of months in Southern California. The area has been hit hard with rain and i bet the rough is just as bad there as it was @ Torrey. I think it makes sense for him to just rest up his back for 2 more weeks, play Bay Hill if he's able to and if not, then just tee it up at Augusta.

Of course, he has no chance to win Augusta IMO, but i'm sure Tiger believes he only has to beat about 15 guys at Augusta and there is no point pushing himself out of the tournament by playing at Riviera when he's still trying to get back to 100% health.

It's impossible to play golf on any of the world tours and win unless you are in great shape. Tiger's performance at the US Open, playing on a broken leg and winning, shows what a competitor he is. But, week in and week out it will eventually wear you out. Pain is a funny thing. The body is programmed to avoid pain and will automatically protect itself, even when the brain says I can do it. If golf movements in his swing are hurting there is no way he can swing a club on the path he wants or get the release he wants. There can't be a worse spot to have physical problems than in the back. I am not a Tiger hater, but he is done and has been done for awhile. Personally, I wish it wasn't so because he was special and he elevated the level of game more than anyone in my memory.

There is a major announcement coming in April for HIS retirement.

Any updated timetable for the announcement on YOUR retirement from posting drivel and stating it as fact?

Golfers just can't pop in and pop out of PGA events and expect to do well. You have to have some consistency of routine and health to compete at the level of professional golfer. Otherwise it's going to be just as it is right now a bunch of floundering around. I personally think his body will never be physically fit enough to compete at a level to win on the PGA. It really is sort of a circus right now with his back problems and entering a tournament here in there and withdrawing etc etc etc.
