thanks. so basically the current epic heavenwood isnt a hybrid, just a 7 wood and the new offering is a hybrid? thanks for clearing that up

A heavenwood is different than a 7 wood. Heavenwoods are a seven wood head/loft on a longer shaft. Hybrids have nothing to do with the heavenwood. They offer both a 7 wood and a heavenwood in epic already. Hope this helps.

No tour player is going to play them, they look worse than Taylormade M irons and they will cost more than a nice set of blades. No thanks.

Yup. Those would look at home next to the Top Flite budget box at Walmart or Dick's. With that lime green accent...I'm sure a Kawasaki fan or two will take a set though.

So, PXG claims something along the lines of spared no expense to bring out the best product money can by by not restricting R&D to a budget.

Will Callaway be claiming they did the same or are they just releasing a high dollar set in an attempt to steal away those customers that simply want a club very few can afford to show off status?

In other words, is Callaway merely releasing an iron/hybrid line to go along with the Epic woods or will they claim these have some state of the art R&D to go after the PXG crowd?

Lastly, wouldn't it be a mistake to use the Epic name on a wood/driver line that are at similar price points compared to competitors brands and then release a iron/hybrid with the same name at a price point well above that of the average market?

If Callaway is going to price their state of the art irons only for a select few and going to market irons that aren't as technically advanced for the masses, they're going to lose market share to other companies who have a more realistic view of the marketplace and more respect for consumers. I think we can attribute the $2000 price tag to the "PXG effect." It's bad for golf and makes me less inclined to buy anything Calloway

The heavenwood has 20* loft but is similar in size to a 3 wood(bigger than a 7 wood) and has a shaft that is 1/4 inch shorter than the 3 wood. In the Epic line, the Heavenwood is also adjustable where the 7 wood is not. Can't tell you anything about the Epic hybrid yet.

Tour players would not play them because they do not need irons that give them more distance. If so, more of them would play irons with Face Cup Technology.

Some good points which highlight what appears to be a pretty strange move with these irons.

Could not agree more. It makes no sense to randomly push $2k irons into the market that share the same name with an existing product that is at a "normal" price point for Callaway. I just don't get it.

Also, for an iron that is so expensive and reported on this thread to be coming to market very soon, Callaway has not hyped them up whatsoever. I find this strange when compared to the insane marketing plan they used to push the driver and woods. Not adding up.

Of course I still don't believe that they will be that expensive. And if they are, like a lot of y'all, I will have trouble buying what Callaway is trying to sell across the board.

So, if Callaway pushes out a $250/club iron, then some will have an issue with buying ANYTHING Callaway produces??? Whoa!! Seems a bit extreme. Well, then, I would assume that those same people will refuse to buy Titleist now also, since the C16 is even more expensive and available on a regular basis now. just sayin.

To me it just seems so bizarre and off of the Callaway image. If they are willing to bump the prices of a random iron who knows what their future marketing plans are. Maybe the iron will be awesome and innovative and WORTH it. Maybe. I think it is just a turn off that these price points are coming to the companies that were generally reasonably priced before.

Titleist on the other hand brought a high end JDM release to market in the states that did marginally well and now they are going to roll the dice on it again.

Also, I'm all talk. Callaway makes some pretty good sh!t and I will buy it if it works. Lol

They look different from this angle and with this lighting. The cavity looks more open. From the other photos they looked like they were filled in or even hollow.

Yeah, makes them look even more uninteresting. Literally looks like a standard cavity back with some "jailbreak" bars added in. Do they even claim to do anything? Has any marketing material surfaced. What are the reps telling you guys out there? Certainly there must be a story to back up the price tag?

Well at least now we know the stock shaft. Recoil 780

For a 30$ up charge i read somewhere. What a joke. I have a full bag of callaway and am getting turned off my there uncharges, some clubs have 72$ upcharges in irons for 40$ or less shafts at retail prices plus grip charges. I am really liking Mizunos free shaft/grips upgrades, even Srixon has a lot to choose from for free.

A jazzier version of the BB OS that bombed last year. Utterly bizarre.
