Callaway Epic irons (Pics added page 6)

Is it fair to say these are a competitor to the Titleist C series irons? I'm seeing a lot of the same back of the club shape in the Epics...

Titleist TS4 9.5* - Fujikura Speeder 661 TX
Callaway Epic SubZero 13.5* - Fujikura Motore Speeded TS 6.3X
TaylorMade SLDR 2h 17* - Fujikura Pro 83h X
Sub 70 699 ProU 3i 19* - Aerotech Steelfiber 110 X

Sub70 699 5-7i, 699 Pro 8-P - Aerotech Steelfiber 110 X
Maltby Max Milled Wedges .900" - 50* & 56*
Callaway Mack Daddy PM Grind 64*
Bettinardi Queen B #8

So one company, PXG, comes out with ridiculously-priced golf clubs and other manufacturers now have to chase that market?

I've played a lot of golf in Pinehurst over the past year and have yet to see a single set of PXG irons on any course in that town. There can't be much of a market for these uber-priced clubs. And I'm quite certain I can still miss greens with them in spite of their retail price.

Boutique clubs aren't for all but trust me, they are selling.

I know Titleist sold out their concept irons, so they brought them back.

That's exactly what I heard from my contacts in the Callaway tour department. They know PXGs are selling through country club pro shops and custom fitters where people don't hesitate to spend the extra money. And that is what these are aimed at, I heard $225-250 a club retail.

Look like the X2 Hot Pro with different color scheme to me... first thing I thought of..

Agreed - look extremely similar to X2 hot pro. IMO the X2 are the best callaway iron in the past 5 years - incredibly thin sole (less then apex pro), very little offset (again, less then apex pro), smaller more compact head, and absolute rocket launchers whilst being super forgiving.

This is a good move for Callaway, the x2 hot are sleepers

I don't know what is worse, saying epic or having it written on your clubs.

Embarrassing.

Denim jeans, white Nike Air Monarchs, and cap back to front.

Troll much....?

opinion much? Come on now. We can give our views on clubs. Isn't that the point of this place? I was saying it in jest, though some truth to the silly name.

The silly name is outselling Taylormade 4 to 1!! Not bad

The product is certainly good and has lots of buzz. Still a silly name.

Next year the Callaway awesome....then the Callaway Radical..... might be great but cringey names and Epic is just as bad.

Do you have a reference for 4-1? I have seen between 2 and 3-1.

Personally, I wouldnt care if a club was called "Sh*t on a Stick". If they perform great, then crush em. I guess I dont spend much time reading my clubs. Just my opinion.

a little different, like em.

Thanks for posting, got a pic of the hybrid?

Awww yes... Warrick is interested in Callaway irons :smilie_cally: . I almost guarantee, if you buy these, the cally rep will throw in an epic stand bag or maybe staff.

I met my buddy at a Callaway demo day yesterday as he was finishin up (he is getting an SZ Driver).

I picked up the Apex Forged for the first time, and damn if that is not a good looking set of irons.

About the only thing in the Callaway line (now) that could compete with what you are playing.

Great turf interaction and feel to them. Weaker lofts/more traditional lofts too.

I am already searching around this morning, seeing what it would take to get a set of 5-P, surely not cheap....

Callaway preowned was having some deals. Be wary about the condition because they are forged.

Also, Callaway is offering 50% trade in bump for their irons till the end of May.

Apparently no 50% bonus towards the Pro Forged..

How dumb....

I guess I may end up trying the new set of Vapor Pro irons coming today.

Well shucks...

Vapor Pros are a sexy set of irons... no doubt.

You don't see a lot of Ferrari's out on the road either.

Bingo. Not many Ford GTs either. That's why they sell Fusions, Explorers, and F150s.

There are people out there willing to pay for premium products. They're high margin, low volume. If that market exists, why would a company ignore it?

A lot of people enjoy having top of the line stuff and can afford it. Sometimes those that can't afford it find it easier to complaing about the product/company instead. Make your choice, and know it's diminishing returns the same as it is in buying this year's model vs the prior generation.

We can all rest assured that if there is not a big enough market for this, or enough of it captured, PXG, Callaway, or anyone else getting into it will stop. TM did its multiple driver thing for as long as people kept buying them up. When the sales stopped, so did the release rate.

There's a lot of golf courses cheaper than the ones at Pinehurst. ;)

Don't like the top line. Bit too thick for my liking from the picture. The super big rounded toe is throwing me off too, but again, it's a picture. In person is always different. The shaft in it looks sharp though, whatever that is! Definitely curious to see if other OEMs follow the hollow body resin insert of the PXG models

They sold 1,500 sets...big freakin' deal.
