Dottie Pepper Insulting Scott Brown

I watched her in an LPGA event in Vegas about 20 years ago. She was downright nasty to her obviously cuckolded husband who was also her caddy at the time.

With that said I actually like her. It was an awkward exchange with Scott Brown. She obviously was not aware he had won a tournament and then didn't want to totally concede that she had been mistaken.

In her defense Puerto Rico is an alternate field event and won't be on the PGA schedule anymore effective in 2018.

My favorite Dottie story. Shoprite Classic in AC NJ, 2nd round, hole #7, a 185 par 3 with bunkers and junk left, deep, and right. She tugs her tee shot into the junk left. Without much of an effort to keep it quiet, she exclaims 'F*** Me!'. All of us watching just kind of looked at each other with various expressions of surprise and humor, but always glancing over to Dottie to make sure she didn't catch you laughing other wise you would risk getting punched in the face.

Now *thats* a woman!

Another Dottie moment was when she had to punch an approach under some tree branches and it came out pretty hot and from across the fairway I heard her scream "Get down you dirty dog!!". That is one heck of a woman..

I heard that Sunday morning.

Wasn't Dottie interviewing guys after the Masters? If I remember correctly, she was pretty bad at it. She started several questions with lines like "you did so poorly last year, what helped you turn it around?" which you can tell the players get annoyed with. Thanks for reminding them how they messed up last year, or have never been in contention. It adds literally nothing to the interview.

The fact that she didn't just let her comment die once Scott mentioned his win is so weird. Just let it go, move on, and apologize to him after the interview is over - don't try to save face that you were "right".

That was so unprofessional and disrespectful, hope he got an apology afterwards but I doubt it. Kisner looked like he wanted to chew her out but bit his lip the whole time instead.

Her inability to admit that she was wrong reveals more of a poor character than a poor interviewer. And she's not a good interviewer. That was uncomfortable to watch. Smh...

How about Dottie telling Scott Brown he has yet to win on the PGA Tour, then him correcting her saying he won the 2013 Puerto Rico Open... Instead of her just apologizing she just rubs it in even more clarifying that it wasn't a "full field, regular event".

Basically telling Scott Brown "Oh yeah my bad, you won but it was against a bunch of losers so you didn't actually win." The video is gold. You can tell Kisner just wants to walk away.

Dottie's visceral reaction was either a product of her deep-rooted resentment for the differences in PGA vs. LPGA prize money, or too much sucralose in her diet.

Clarifying my earlier comment and adding a bit... Dottie has always been fiercely competitive. So much so it was sometime not well received by her peers when she played. The likely truth is that she probably puts more heart and soul into things than is healthy for a person to do at times. I think it's hard for her to put that competitive spirit aside... and it unfortunately it results in her saying some things that are not very well received. I don't think it's much more complicated than that.

I need to go back and watch it, I remember 2 times during this years Masters coverage when Faldo "politely corrected" an on air statement she was making. She just sounds disjointed and out of place for that coverage. I think for better or worse we are all used to a certain cadence and pc ness with golf announcing and she just comes off.. different.

I think what moved the needle is someone paid to act on behalf of the viewing audience disparaging a player's pga tour win to his face on national TV.

Sat next to her on a flight once. Asked her a question, she completely ignored me. I am fine with that, she probably gets "bugged' by people all the time. What did annoy me is how verbally abusive she was to the flight attendants. She was down right nasty. Before then, I had no opinion of her. Now I can't even look at her on television.

Uh, wow. I take back my earlier post....she can go quietly...along with the rest of the oxygen thieves.

Reviews were mixed:

Pepper is a perfectly crafted fairy-tale broadcaster that is going places. She is family-friendly, glittery and plays second banana to no one.

Donna Herman for New York Times

Pepper may well tap into the dewy-eyed demographic that can make “Golf Broadcasting ” an indestructible favorite of female adolescents.

Ben Brantley for New York Times

Dottie’s recent interviewing performance suffers from its own identity crisis. Her style has got a split personality and is torn between whether it’s serious drama or frothy comedy... While the interview tone was muddy, Pepper maintained a bright, clear voice and shines in the spotlight.

Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News

In this arena crowded with golf broadcasters, Pepper has clearly maintained a modest profile. But now the secret can be told: Pepper is the richest and fullest golf caller to hit television in years. Who knew?"

Adam Feldman for Time Out New York

Her kitschy, old-fashioned entertaining style of ignorance lacks any sort of relative sophistication.

David Rooney for Hollywood Reporter

Young women and girls in search of a new Golf role model need look no further than Dot Pepper - this sumptuous announcer pleases the kids, satisfies the sentimental and comforts those who thought the old templates for golf commentating were passé. Pepper’s broad strokes of the familiar can still be irresistible when combined with taste, craftsmanship and a willing suspension of disbelief.

Frank Rizzo for Variety

When she was younger her insufferable personality was tolerated because she was somewhat good looking. But now she is a tub of lard with the same personality, she really grates on people.

I Googled for some old pictures from when she was good looking. No such luck. Doesn't appear that was ever the case lol.
