SamPGA (or anyone actually),

When is the release date on the 718 info? Man....I keep checking the front page for that first "legit" thread/article about the 718 line that explains how and what was improved or different like, blade length, sole/topline width, tungsten added over 716, ect.

Thanks!

Ryan

Shaft will be DG TI 120 s400 HSx1 which will result in 4-8 playing HS and 9-P/W will be s400 straight in.

I'm prettty equal between the options, but I really love the loft gapping I came up with in option no. 2. Mut maybe it's little bit much with that 6 iron bent 2 degress weak if you take bounce into consideration.

Which options do you decide between and why?

Just got off the phone with a friend that is a Titleist fitter, and he has been going to clubs to do staff fittings. He said the AP3s are really getting raves from all the club pros. He said a large club in Charlotte has pre ordered 75 sets. The guy in Charlotte feels that once his members hit them , there will be a huge demand.

There's no denying the ball speed and distance from the lofts and forgiveness, and most amateurs just care about distance because of ego, but Shiels noted that compared to the AP2, the AP3 feel wasn't as good. I'm surprised the club pros didn't mind that as much, or maybe they too overlooked it.

Maybe he knows 75 of his members that care about distance, he might have ordered 100 sets of AP2s for guys that like feel

Bear in mind that a 4 degree gap between a high COR club (I believe both AP3 and TMB are such clubs) and a speciality wedge might still create a larger actual yard gap than the other 4 degree gaps you have. I had some old Pings and had a 11 yard gap from 9 (44 deg.) - Vokey (48 deg.). Then changed to a 4-pw XR Pro set and used the set pw. Pw is 45 deg (so higher than my Ping 9) but then had a 20+ yard gap to the Vokey. Have then bought a XR Pro gw (50) and that is perhaps also a bit longer than my 48 Vokey, thats is now no longer in use. Xr Pro is also a hot face club.

Has it been said if the 718 AP2's are more forgiving than last years? Have they been moved more towards the CB/MB?

Currently playing 716CB after previously 714AP2 but looking for something less demanding as I don't get to play much anymore

Was looking at i200 but now there's 718AP2, 718AP3, MP18MMC and P790 all in the mix now!!

The amount of offset and strong lofts of the AP3's is a bit of a turn off. Too bad they're not in between the ap1 and ap2 like the size seems to be. They do look really nice though.

I'm a bit upset about the AP3 lofts and construction. Was really hoping that they would make a slightly longer blade, forged offering. Start the PW at 46 and essentially keep 4* between each club for the entire way up, and moving into the hollow body in the longer irons.

PW 46, 9 41-42, 8 37-38, 7 33-34, 6 29-30, 5 25-26, 4 21-22, something like that.

With the lofts the way they are, there is way too much space at the bottom of the bag, where we need more clubs, especially for moderate to long hitters. I would argue that the average golfer needs only 2-3 clubs to be for >200 yard shots since thats not your scoring opportunity, and that more focus should be on the 125-175 range (your PW, GW area to your 6-7i). The AP3 could have been that club, but it looks like its not...

With the AP3s you have the potential to have 5 wedges if you want (AP3 43*, AP3 48*, Vokey 52*, Vokey 56*, Vokey 60*). I would think that having more wedges would help your scoring.

Look at it this way, the AP3s have close to the same lofts as the CB or MB irons, they just have different numbers on the bottom.

All it is is a stamping. The 43* pw is a 9 iron. Then tour 48* is pw. Etc. I don't get caught up with the stamping just the lofts. I've played CBs and go with those lofts with a 47* pw, then 51*, 55 and 59 vokey. I'm going to pickup the AP2 and bend the 6-p to CB lofts(3-5) are the same.

Can anyone find the bounce numbers/specs for the AP3 irons?

I'd really like to see those being how strong the lofts are. I'd like to know the bounce specs before deciding on ordering these and having the lofts bent weaker.

I think eventually we will see a 48* lob wedge, at this rate. Players will just refer to their 60* wedge as a 60 instead of a lob wedge. The sets of the future will look like this:

60 - 60*

56 - 56*

52 - 52*

LW - 48*

SW - 44*

GW - 40*

PW - 36*

9i - 32*

8i - 28*

7i - 25*

6i - 22*

5i - 19*

4i - 17*

Spent some time hitting all the offerings today on Flightscope.

Overall I will say that the new line has something for everyone, regardless of handicap.

I currently play to a 3 or so, and could really play anything of the AP3 to the MB.

Feel:

MB

AP2

CB

AP3

The new AP are easily the best feeling AP I've ever hit and the 716 was the first iteration I moved off of. I felt they really took a step back on that line, and with the new AP they took 2 steps forward. I just can't hit anything but a hook with the stock White AMT.

The MB was the biggest surprise at how easily I was hitting the PX into the air. I game the 6.0, so it's no surprise I had the most consistent results with that one.

The CB, was pretty much expected, with a bit more forgiveness. I still can't figure out LZ though.

The AP3 on middled shots felt tremendous, and actually had the best dispersion with the AMT Black that was in it. I will say that misses on the AP3 felt awful...think cast iron feel or firm to give you a perspective. These were exactly one club longer with identical spin rates as the AP2 and for some reason about a degree lower launch.

Overall, really a home run here, but not enough to displace my Srixons yet.

I was able to have a partial fitting today. Not all of the shafts are in so I'll have to go back again later.

The PXi was clearly a better shaft for me than the stock AMTs. It reminded me a fair bit of the Rifles that I used to play. The PXi was also better than the LZs.

I was surprised by how well the T-MBs worked for me. I'm thinking I may do a split set of T-MBs and AP2s.
