Stricter Dress Code Coming For LPGA

Recommended Posts

Vicki Whoever needs to have her head examined. As a manual medicine doctor I am so impressed with how athletic and professional the LPGA has become. This woman is in the dark ages. Maybe she should review some video of the women golfers in the 1960's to 80's. I've never seen a plunging neckline on the women's tour. I'm sure I know what the problem really is here.

I suspect you are not the type of viewer that the LPGA is trying to encourage.

Agree

BUT

If the LPGA truly want to stop catering to the market where guys want to see some skin on LPGA pros, they'd initiate a policy where the LPGA pros must abide by the dress code that the host club employs.....therefore I think 30-40% of the LPGA pros would have to change their apparel.

Some examples of outfits that would likely not be allowed on the majority of clubs that the LPGA plays on.

OK with me.

Really??.....do you belong to a private club that would allow MW's top and the other very short skorts or shorts above?

I deleted the MW pic from my post above as the mods might think it's too risque though acceptable by the LPGA,, host clubs, etc

Yes I do, unfortunately no woman at either of my clubs looks nor plays like Michelle. Golf needs less prudish points of view. I remember when many of the lady pro's were porkers.

My 11 handi golfer wife is quite stylist in golf attire, as are most of her golfer friends. But when watching the LPGA they often remark how annoying it is to see how poorly dressed many LPGA women are. Then almost always hear the private clubs they frequent during team events would NOT allow them to wear what LPGA players wear.

Ask yourself WHY has the LPGA allowed players to dress as they have. I suspect LPGA is trying to make the LPGA look more sexy, womanish, as opposed to... in hopes of getting more male viewers. Though its nice to see a hot women in really tight short shorts and top at the shopping center or..., its not fitting for telecast or what constitutes a "professional".

These women you mention probably love to gossip. What does your wife's handicap have to do with this discussion? Maybe these women should enjoy playing and practicing golf instead of being miserable.

I believe the PGA tour's dress code is more strict than the LPGA. Every time there's a thread about allowing men to wear shorts it seems to be less passionate lol.

I don't have an issue with dress codes. Several workplaces have them for both men and women. As long as they are reasonable why does it matter? I don't see anything unreasonable in what they are asking from the players

I am guessing it is a knee jerk reaction to what people perceive as an infringement of their rights and liberties. Doesn't matter if what the LPGA is asking for is reasonable. Heck, it doesn't even matter if a person is an LPGA fan or not.

I agree.

Again the majority of workplaces have some sort of dress code. Violation of liberties and accusations of sexism I think are misplaced unless the argument is that any dress code in any environment is also the same.

From what I understand based on quick reading, it seems the women still have more options than men. They can wear shorts!

Workplaces and sports teams have dress codes but pro golfers are independent contractors so it's loosely applicable. I would guess there is push back from the less fit / attractive LPGA members who believe they are losing sponsorship money and fans to the LPGA members who dress more provocatively.

I haven't seen any LPGA member wear something that I'd consider offensive or too revealing but it's clearly a different approach from the PGAT Tour men who are expected to wear long pants and a shirt with a mock or actual collared shirt.

Independent contractor isn't a catch all to do whatever you want though, you still get contracted by someone or some enterprise that can ask you to follow their rules. It's your choice to just go work somewhere else. One of my close family members is an independent contractor as it happens and one place she works does actually have a dress code. (it's in the medical space so this is understandable)

I agree with you, it's not like people have been out there in bikinis, I just don't have an issue with them giving a reasonable dress code and think were making too big a deal over it for "social justice" reasons

When medical outcomes improve because of dress codes, I'll return my medical license and go to clothes design school. I was watching the ANA with my 3 daughters, (26, 17, 14 yoa). I commented how wonderful it was that these younger girls, mostly Asian, were currently in great shape, killing the ball, and wearing shapely stylish clothes. They asked who cares?

This is coming from a bunch of jealous fatties who are completely out of touch and want to be relevant again.

Yes, I understand that ad networks can dish up all type of cr*p. This site often displays ads that violate the "community standards". However, if the tour was serious about its projected image, don't you think that monitoring the ads that show up on its website would be part of the equation? I'm IT literate, but I have to imagine that the vast, vast majority of folks visiting the LPGA website have no idea how ads are served up. As far as they're concerned, the LPGA placed the ads there.

The ads you're seeing has more to do with you than the site you're seeing them on.

Now this is funny..."why do I keep getting ads about "meeting" single women in my area on a golf site?" :cheesy:

Feminism FTW.... No wonder the LPGA is losing viewership... They probably received too many angry emails, letters, and phone calls from jealous wives who didn't want their husbands looking at these PYTs... A good number of people who watch LPGA tournaments want to see spaghetti straps and itty-bitty skirts or the skirt/short combination things (whatever they're called)... What's wrong with these people?

Replace "a good number of people" with "very few" and you'll have a much more accurate statement.

Sorry to break it to you buttercup, but attractive LPGA players such as Michelle Wie, Cheyenne Woods, and Lydia Ko showing a little skin can only enhance the experience of watching LPGA events.

A good number of people who watch LPGA events do watch them to see good looking women in skimpy outfits. Go on YouTube and look at all the compilations dedicated to scantily clad LPGA tour players, I'm pretty sure I've seen them all. My point is, enforcing a stricter dress code wasn't good for anything or anyone, least of all the LPGA tour.

Okay, let's define "a good number of people". How many are we talking about?

What has been the actual negative impact of enforcing a stricter dress code? Specifically on the LPGA tour.

I, for one am less interested in watching an LPGA event when all I see are a bunch of women wearing ankle length, loosely fitting khakis.

Let's say on any given Sunday, and LPGA event gets 250k views. Now say 5 percent of those who tune in don't like what they see "for whatever reason" and figure if they want to see a bunch of skilled golfers dressed like men, they can tune into a PGA tour event, thus resulting in a loss of 12,500 viewers, which is probably a conservative reduction in viewership. See what I mean?

So we are up to "1" as to what defines "a good number of people" :taunt:

And as far as the "actual negative impact", we have a completely made-up, hypothetical scenario.

Yeah https://www.statista.com/statistics/480139/cable-or-broadcast-tv-networks-lpga-tour-women-s-golf-watched-within-the-last-12-months-usa/

And my evidence that they'll lose viewership as a result of making players dress like nuns is this very thread. The general sentiment is that tight, skimpy clothing is a good thing, not a bad thing.

I would make a complete mockery of this dress code, nothing but loudmouth men's clothes a size too big with a ridiculous hairstyle to match it.

You guys know if you want to see actual hot women and barely any clothing there's other sites besides Golfwrx. Outside of this LPGA vacuum, Belen Mozo is the only "player" that is a smokeshow off the course.

I think it's more of a fetish thing... Watching attractive women who know how to play gold who also happen to be not fully clothed.

Which is exactly why the LPGA is not overly concerned about losing the viewership of that particular demographic.

Irrelevant. The dress code changes were put in place so that the LPGA put forth an appropriate image for a professional sports business. Complaints were made by sponsors and the players board approved the changes. End of story and old news.

They still seem to be wearing next to nothing half the time, so it looks as though the rules are being loosely enforced, and rightfully so. Take care!
