146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale

I think Jordan needs to go back to school and learn about numbers/percentages....

"It could be anybody this week," said Spieth. "At this tournament it tends to fall on half the field. You kind of cut half the field, depending on the draw. Sometimes it's more or less 75 percent.

"But most of the time there's at least a group that gets the worst weather. And it's almost impossible to win in that circumstance at an Open Championship."

I'm having trouble having trouble with that statement.

Bad weather:

Tends to fall on half the field

Sometimes on 75% of the field

But mostly, on half the field

Group = morning or afternoon group of tee times. Not individual tee time.

At least, that's how I read it . . .

Me either. Made perfect sense.

how about justin rose, he has a shot

Justin certainly has a shot, and he really loves the course. That would be sweet redemption after this year's Masters.

Throughout the years we've seen many a fine player end up winning just one major, but there are a few you really pull for to make it more than just once. Justin is one of those guys for me.

As long as you don't mind us calling it the American Open?

Since Americans have won a bunch more than Brits the last several decades you should rename it, good idea!

Oh, you meant U.S. Open.

Watched the show on Player last week, guess what - your British announcers were calling it the British Open.

Somebody wants to be like The Masters.

Maybe "A golf tournament that has only ever been held on the British Isles" would suit them?

As the "ruler of golf [save for two countries]", hold it outside of Britain, or be called the British Open.

US Open, Australian Open, South African Open, Japan Open, Oregon Open, British Open.

Call it what it is.

do you know good stands to watch multiple holes? thanks!

Not sure about stands but there's good vantage points.....if you want holes to watch close by then 10,11,12 is a good run. But try and watch the 17th from the far sand bank so you watch the 2nd shots....it's brilliant! 15th to 16th tee is a good watch too...Enjoy!

It's not the U.K. Open.

Exactly. As it's never been played out of Britain, it's the British Open.

No it's the Champion Golfer of the Year tournament.

Nowhere on the trophy does it say 'British' - It is 'The Golf Champion Trophy'

Hence it is 'the Open'.

On the US Open Trophy it says 'United States Open Championship'

So you guys couldn't even get the important part of the name right on the trophy? Too bad Feherty never won it so the jug could have been lost and redone right.

No one should get their panties in a wad over what it's called. Outside the UK, many call it The British Open to disambiguate from other Opens in other nations. Much like The Masters (at Augusta) is often referred to as the US Masters in some places outside the US.

Regardless, I think all of us on WRX are very much looking forward to this tournament, no matter what it's called.

Rory claiming he has sorted his putting out, and now playing 1 iron 16* graphite shaft, which runs out to 280-290!

Great idea. Play a new club in a major.

Can't be worse than his driver of late

Let's call it golf's oldest Major so everyone is happy and we can enjoy the tournament

Technically, it's not "The Open". It's "The Open Championship". But millions of golfers for 100 years have called it "The British Open". No offence intended and as the OP said, call it whatever you want.
