What's so difficult? There are no other opens called The Open

 

It's not "difficult" It's the fact that when someone uses the term "British Open" there is that group of people who feel the need to express their mock outrage and create a kerfuffle on the interwebs.

 

It's simply a term that has been used for around 100 years by very prominent people in the golf world to clarify they are talking about the Open played on the British isles. This normally happens when you are giving an interview or writing an article in the Western hemisphere or even parts of Asia.

 

It's no different than when someone from europe refers to the Masters as the US Masters. It sounds silly if you are setting on US soil but I suppose it makes sense if you are in the UK.

 

BTW I have heard former Open Champions refer to it as the British Open during TV interviews. They were not being disrespectful.

 

The only difference being that nobody I know in the US really cares what anyone from Britain calls the Masters. Everyone knows what it is.

A true "the open" doesn't need to keep correcting and reminding people that it's "the" open at every turn.

No play-by-play or shot link really sucks. How in the world can the Open not have this? European Tour doesn't have it in general. How do you want to be a quality tour if you do not offer your fans that in the year 2017?

 

pga.com is great with that. You can follow you favorite players around the golf course and although you cannot watch the shot, you are informed exactly how things go shot by shot.

Carnage on the first hole all morning until Noren teed off and thumped a drive down there 300 yards, knocked his approach to 5-6 feet and then holed the putt. Seemed to signal the fact that the contenders were now out and on the course. Just gutted I have to go to work and will miss most of the morning play.

 

On the Russians - Trump told them that some prominent players from the past were big, very big spies for Russia and with that being so they had to consider them Russian for coming up with the totals!
