Why aren't they showing the yardage to the whole very often? I was watching this morning and they never mentioned the yardages on the second shots. I did see a couple of overhead yardages listed right before I came to work.

Is Jerry the only reporter on the course? Someone has to be out there to overhear the player and caddie discussing the yardage in order to relay it back to the production booth.

I thought they used the... ah crap I forget the name... It's like a surveying system. When I was at the US Open, every hole had at least 1 or 2 of these tripods set up, being run some USGA looking people. At the 18th hole I asked the guy what he was doing, and he said he was taking distances. So basically, I assumed he was triangulating player, to a known spot, to the flag, then reporting that distance back to somebody who then got it placed on TV.

I asked how far Lexi's drive was on the 18th and he said "259, and she's got about 282 to the flag, 180 to where she'll probably lay up"

'Probably ShotLink, or something similar. 'Not sure if the WBO uses the technology. Other than the U.S. Open, I don't believe it's used at any other LPGA tournament.

Here's a snippet from the 2018 U.S. Open Volunteer information page:

Scoring Services - Ball Position: The Ball Position committee will utilize the USGA-provided laser operated equipment to measure ball position information and data. This includes but is not limited to club selection, drive distance and distance to the hole. May require the ability to climb ladders and operate from elevated platforms. It is also preferred that all committee members have Shotlink or related field experience. Attendance at mandatory training sessions will be required in May, 2018.

Yup sounds just like it. Don't they use this on almost every shot though in PGA events?

Yes, the PGA uses it on everything. That's why they can calculate the various "shots gained" statistics. If you know the position and lie of every shot, it opens up a world of possibilities. On the LPGA, we're left guessing why a player is performing worse than the year before. Poor putting or poor approach shots? Total putts and GIRs are fairly meaningless on their own.

On Sunday it won't be Wie. It won't be DLD. Mo Martin with a 3 wood off the fairway deck from 18 for the win.

didn't want to jinx them but i was pretty sure MW or DLD couldn't keep up their 1st day game..

MW's manufactured swing will not hold up well under pressure and DLD is well..not young anymore.

they will still have their good days though..

What's a manufactured swing?

That would be a swing in which no part of the swing resembles anything the player would do when attempting to use a natural motion or does not resemble in any way the swing they used when they were young and were predicted to be a phenom instead of a descent player on the tour.......A little bit like M. Wie.

in bee park and stacey lewis just shot 64(-8) and 65(-7) as a twosome and their best ball was 60!

17 birdies between the 2 with 2 bogeys from stacey and none from in bee..

superb moving day performance by those two and now firmly back in contention at -10 and -9 respectively after a so-so first 2 days..

Or a player trying to make a score? I was never an MW fan in the past, but watching her do what she can to compete at the highest level is pretty cool, imo. Beautiful swings mean bupkis.

She certainly has Judy baffled. When asked about that swing she said that it certainly keeps Wie from getting into trouble by hitting those low cuts all over she cannot figure out how Wie still gets so much speed with that method.

i find myself not wanting to watch when michele wie is hitting now much like when she was using that tabletop putting style as i really find it awkward to watch..

she reminds me of a grasshopper at address but at least her putting style is more orthodox now...

i still remember her natural powerful swing of many years ago and it pains me to see it now..

but you have to admire her grit for looking for something that works albeit not a pretty sight..

Similar to a few weeks ago at the Marathon, Lexi will try to chase down IK Kim on the weekend. IK closed out both her wins this season like a boss, curious to see if she can do it one more time.

Inky schooled Lexi on Saturday by 8 shots...considering Lexi has Kevin McAlpine who has past experience on Kingsbarn and the greens are only stimping at 9.7 which should help out Lexi's poor putting.

Oh. wow.

Right then. No time to post. Gonna spend the night in humble prayer to the golf gods. Just need some golfball shaped candles.

You can do it IK

Got to root for Inky in a major. The golf gods got to do right by her.

Or maybe the golf gods don't care about non-golf related deeds, such as donating the entire winner's check to Lorena's charity.

I find slower greens harder to putt on.
