In 2016, on Sunday at Woburn Golf Club, 20-year-old Ariya Jutanugarn captured her first major title at the RICOH Women’s British Open. With her victory, Jutanugarn becomes the first player, male or female (from Thailand) to win one of golf’s major championships. She carded a final round even par, 72 to win by three at 16-under par ahead of Mirim Lee and Mo Martin.

For those recording the coverage, note the split network airings on GC and NBC on Saturday and Sunday. You may have to manually set your DVR to record the NBC coverage. Also, I wouldn't trust NBC to stick with the tournament if it went into a playoff extending past 2:30 pm EDT, so I'm planning to record the Golf Channel starting at 2:30 on Sunday in case they cut over.

 

Could this be a replay of last weeks tournament? The forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions, showers, and 12 to 24 mph winds. 'Sure looking like British Open weather.

 

I was impressed with Karrie's play last week. No reason she shouldn't be able to challenge for the win. Sei Young also let one slip away.

I will never figure out pairings. Yeah, at times they'll pair the previous three winners, or a previous winner with a top amateur. However, at times it's a total crapshoot. Majors should have a defined formula that gives top ranked players an edge. You want an edge? Become a top ranked player.

She's the reigning U.S. Women's Open champion, and #4 in the world. She's paired with the #160 and #505 ranked players in the world. How about if we compromise and at least allow her to play with a top 50 player in the world?

Agree, it sure seems like a lousy pairing compared to what every other top 10 player got. Golf establishment needs to wake up and realize that their efforts to handicap a certain group of players is not working. After a certain point you're just fueling your opponent's determination to beat you. Hate to be the bearer of bad news stats but Korean players have won more than half the LPGA's tournaments in 2017.

Actually one of the things I noticed this year is that many of the Tour Players look much more beautiful in person than they do on camera. Sung Hyun also goes for that look. She is big into fashion. It's called health goth and gaining traction is Korea. Some golf brands for women over there are slowly entering that sub-culture market as well.

Some tee times are based on the most popular players, sometimes top three players in the world rankings. It's their tourney and they can do whatever they want to do. We just hope that it's a pairing that we would like to see. Who would you pair together?
