New SM7's

See a lot of tour players with SM7 PW, GW, and SW but using a prototype 60. Anyone know what this is?

I think this happens a lot. The full swing wedges are a little more generic where there is a lot more personalization in the 60's based on the variety of shots the player wants to hit. I'm kind of the same way. I just want a wide sole and a lot of bounce on my PW, GW and SW but I like a ton of relief and very little bounce on my LW.

Wouldn't this just be a L grind 60?

I like the F grind in the full swing wedges and then the 58 I play is basically an L grind with a blunted leading edge. I call it ski but I'm not sure what the technical term is. I play a ton of open face shots with my LW so the Hi Toe/PM grind is very attractive to me due to its versatility.

I can't live without a M grind 56. Main club around the greens. Going to bag a L grind this year, haven't used one before. I just couldn't hit the high flops very well with the M 60

Are you older? The reason I asked is I'm 35 and I grew up when 60's really started becoming popular so I hit my LW all over the place but I know a lot of guys in their mid-40's who hit PW or SW from everywhere.

I probably play more shots with an open-faced LW than I play with any single club in my bad other than my putter of course. I've resisted the PM grind itch for a really long time but Vokey finally gave me a reason to switch. I was leaning towards switching after the SM5's but then the progressive CGs of the SM6 really made sense to me so I stuck with Vokey. Nothing really intrigues me about the SM7s so I think it's a good time.

I spin my GW and SW too much so the less aggressive grooves in the Callaway line's lower lofted wedges really appeals to me as does the fact that I can play a PM grind type wedge while staying somewhat congruent through my wedges. I'm also interested in the Hi Toe but I'm not a big fan of having a different finish from wedge to wedge.

I've never been a big Callaway fan but as far as wedges go I think they've got the right idea.

Make sure you try the L first. Leading edge is about 21 degrees of bounce. I have one and my Eye2 sits much lower square and opened up.

No spring chicken, but yes. I remember years back playing a month with only a PW and got pretty good around the greens doing that.

I did just hit wedges today on the LM and noticed how much more spin I got with more bounce on the 52 and 56 (12 and 14 bounce) than with the lower F or M grind. This gets me rethinking. Perhaps 52.12F, 56,14F, and 60.12D with S400. Relearn my short game..

So if your an Sm6 60k/12 guy I assume we should be going for the Sm7 60d/12?

Anyone?

This is exactly what I plan on doing. I love the K grind but it is time for something different. I was really wanting a v grind release, but ill try the D first...(haha, that's what she said)

Same here - I ordered a replacement SM6 K grind back in December and plan on ordering a D grind SM7 to compare. K grind is fantastic from the bunker but a little more playability around the green would be great.

Agreed. I love the bunker play from the K grind but the D grind makes it a lot more versatile around the greens. Been loving it around certain shots for the green

There is a good reason the jet black has different grooves. It is a dipped finish that has much less depth than the plated finish thats on the Tour Chrome and Grey finishes. Those wedges are plated and that fills the groove more hence a different and larger original groove. After the finishes they should be identicalThere is a good reason the jet black has different grooves. Good explanation. I love the black finish and hopefully someone can confirm they spin the same.

Dah crap, Cobra is now launching all black wedges and they make a similar lower bounce M grind, too. If vokey doesn't raise their price... that's going to be a tough call because Cobra did... My old PURs spun a bunch and felt very nice... I got them originally because they were cheaper. Got rid of because they still had a bunch of glare issues. Black solves this. If they offer no upcharge modus wedge shaft..... the vokey could be dethroned.

No price increase on the SM7. $150

Ah crap...Guess it will come down to if I can get the SM7 built to spec for $150 because I'm fairly certain I could get the Cobra to specs for $150 right from the website.

46.10F is such a great addition to the lineup. Kind of just want to get one to have it, swap in just for jokes sometimes. Bend to 45, KBS 610 S+ = flighted spicy shots

Yes, exactly. To me, this is the biggest thing in the new lineup. Higher-bounce choices to be able to bend them strong with new stronger-lofted iron sets. If Vokey wanted to make a 44.08 that'd be fine too.

Also, on an unrelated note... I see that Wilson Staff is making unchromed wedges for sale at retail. With all of the unchromed Vokeys on tour, they really should offer them at retail.

From pics, the black SM7’s look like they may have potential to rust up easier than previous black/gun metal releases but have yet to see in person as I didn’t attend show this year. That being said, never played cobra wedges, but their blacks look really nice as well.
