100 rpm less is what I read. I’m curious if you strip the black coating if it would be equivalent to other two coatings? It really isn’t a big difference though

I was kind of hoping that the AD-Sixty grind was going to be incorporated into the SM7 lineup. The L grind just doesn’t quite work for me. I’m intrigued by the tweaks he made to the L Grind..

The D grind is the retail version of the AD?

No. The AD grind is, as told to me by Aaron Dill himself, a "L" grind with the trailing edge of the usable bounce (the ridge) removed making it look more like a low bounce K without the sole width. The AD grind is something that Aaron tinkered with and became very useful especially in conditions that the players find at Augusta during Masters week. The AD is a complete custom grind by Aaron himself on tour.

The new D grind is a higher bounce version of the M, more bounce and a slightly wider flange. I believe the D grind is a more playable version of the K for those that play in soft conditions and play open face shots around the greens. I know for myself, because of the playability on a multitude of shots around the greens, the M has been my go too, but sometimes isn't enough bounch/flange on 3/4 wedge shots and digs. I'm personally VERY interested in this D grind.

Yes it does and has to do with the finish.

Data?

from golfwrx sm7 article

With the new SM7 wedges, Titleist is reporting up to a 100 rpm increase in spin due to tighter tolerances with its Spin Milled machining process… but only with the plated wedges (Tour Chrome and Brushed Steel), as opposed to the Jet Black raw wedge. The new black finish has gotten even blacker with black paint fills and graphics, but the grooves in the black wedges do not utilize the spin-increasing, groove-cutting process.

So black spins the same as SM6.

I pre-ordered a 60 D grind yesterday. I've played the K grind since the first TVD version came out, and it's amazing out of the bunker, but can be difficult around the greens. I remember trying out a TVD M grind several years back at a Titleist demo day and it felt like I was drop-kicking every shot. I'm hoping that the D is the perfect middle ground between the M and K.

My understanding is that the chrome and brushed steel versions are actually milled into a non conforming groove before the finish is applied, only the thickness of the finish brings them back to a conforming groove. Because the black finish is a thinner coating , they have to be milled not as deep or wide to still be conforming after the finish is applied.

I have the D now and it is becoming one of my favorite clubs in the bag. I have played K, M and V. D and V are my favorites for sure.

How is the D with flop shots, I could never flop the M with any success but was way easier with the L or T grind.

Very nice. I would say on par with a V grind! It is easy to open and feel confident with it!

I went with 50 F, 55 V and 60 D grind in brushed metal. I am a digger so hopefully the D grind fits the bill. Hope to have them in my hands by 3/9 to review!
