Toney Penna woods were amazing back in the day. I had the driver, 3 and 5 in those. Loved them.

Had a Penna blonde persimmon with a graphite insert, might have been the most beautiful club I’ve ever owned.

Grand Slam...not seen them mentioned. My dad had a set of these in the mid ‘50’s. I still have the putter; a blade with like a 5 iron loft on the back...was great for punching out when having to do it left handed?. Not sure that’s legal now. Persimmon Woods, 3,5,7,9 irons and putter all with maroon leather grips. I played those until into the 80’s.

Also, Excalibur is a name I haven’t seen mentioned.

Hagen. I think they made a good forging back in the day. Like a Wilson staff. I knew a guy who played the Hagen's so long he bent the lofts like 4 degrees strong just hitting the ground. The club maker told him to throw them out rather than try to get them repaired ...lol

I saw some Pederson woods back in the day. Gorgeous, and were shaped with a little spoiler for the trailing edge. Expensive, as I recall.

The MB-1s were gorgeous and I had multiple sets. Apparently the sole design wasn’t the greatest for turf but I didn’t care. The sound (a smack!) and feel of the irons was the absolute best.

 

I started with Toski VEC Tours and my Dad has used my original set for years. These had a vertical cavity and apparently were “coined stainless” for feel. Basically no offset and a very rounded sole. I remember calling the company and asking them if they would enable me to work the ball. :smile: The set I had were parallel tips and factory cut them at tip for length and flex. Barely moved on a deflection board. Took me years and (thank Heaven for the dawn of the internet) to finally figure out why they played like crap.

I also have a set of Daiwa Hi Trac Tours I picked up via ebay a few years ago after shoulder surgeries. Long shafts and kind of small heads with lots of grooves. I think the shafts are good quality.

I still have my first set of clubs - MacGregor Tourney CB/MB irons (the Miura/Chicago ones), I still use the MB 56 wedge and occasionally I'll carry the 4i since my main Cobra set doesn't have one. The accompanying TM bubble-shaft driver is long gone. Actually, the first clubs I ever hit was a set of rental Daiwa's, I knew nothing but they seemed to work at the time.
