Best Golf Shoes for Bandon

Chanceman

Recommended Posts

I have read lots of stuff about Bandon and people have said take 2 or 3 pairs, but nothing much about which shoes are most appropriate.

I get it that a pair of well used shoes is the go but given that the courses are mostly links style and built on sandy ground how would a pair of say Footjoy Casuals stand up? I wear Footjoy Contour normally which are "proper" golf shoes but the casuals, with the dimple sole, are quite good for most dry days here in Australia.

We are going in November so another part of that is how wet and slushy do the courses get - I would guess not much if the base is sandy.

Playing (and walking) 2 rounds a day will probably put a fair bit of stress on your shoes so which shoes to wear is quite important.

Just got back last week. Got pretty lucky but it did rain one afternoon. It didn't get mushy - too sandy. Any good waterproof pair with a 2+ year warranty should be ok unless you get the really heavy stuff for an extended period of time and then something like the Nike Bandons ensure your feet stay dry. Enjoy!

I've been fine with my usual golf shoes, mostly whatever Footjoy currently strikes my fancy. Whatever is comfortable and waterproof. In my experience normal waterproof golf shoes will be fine at Bandon unless it hits the "torrential" stage. It's not so much the shoes leaking that is the problem as water coming in through the ankle/sock area. If your rain pants fit well, ie long enough to be over the ankles you'll be fine.

I prefer spikeless and softer cushioned shoes. Unless it's wet, the ground is firm, so those feel more comfortable underfoot for long day and lots of miles. I usually bring three pairs, ecco spikeless, nike F1 impacts, and air bandons for heavy rain.

I haven't been there yet, 2.5 more weeks and I'll update. But I was told ahead of time that obviously comfortable and waterproof shoes are a must due to the walking, but also to go with spikeless shoes as the person I talked to said the ground was so firm that spikes wouldn't take hold and it made it slightly more difficult and almost slick at times with the plastic not taking. I'm a spikeless guy anyway so it doesn't much matter, but I thought I'd pass that along or at least reach out for confirmation. I do have a pair of Bandons I'm bringing with as well as backup. Hope I don't have to use them. :)

Might see you there VNutz, we are there Nov 12-18, look for the Aussie Invasion Task Force No 2017. :beach:

Nov. 9-12. I'll try to hide some bourbon out there for ya. :)

Talking about bourbon - is there a Bandon Bourbon of choice?? We drink mainly scotch down here - the single malt variety, naturally!

I wear Footjoy Contour Casuals and Puma Whatevers their spikeless trainer style is and they work a charm.

I spray the crap outta my Footjoys and as long as it's not a total downpour with standing water they do fine.

My mate actually wears trainers/runners on links courses if it's dry. With a good swing they really do provide all the grip you need, if you are OK playing in them.

Hit up a duty free store, and, stock up on your drink of choice, if you can. It is a lot less expensive in the duty free store vs. buying it in the states.

Having just returned I can say that if it is wet you will need "proper" golf shoes like Dryjoys or whatever.

It got quite wet and slippery when I played Old Mac in Footjoy Casuals and slipped over once or twice on those steep sided fairways like 7.

In relatively dry conditions the casuals were just fine but very glad to have the old well worn Footjoys most of the time.

The shoe warmer in your room will dry them out nicely overnight. Gloves too.

As for whiskey I bought a bottle of Bushmills Irish Whiskey at BevMo for $20 which lasted a while!!
