I received my MMB-17 irons today. They are shafted with UST recoil 110 F4 shafts, the same as what are in my Cobra Fly Z Forged+ irons. They are actually nearly identical to my cobra iron heads in terms of size. The MMB's have a little more offset. Topline is pretty much the same, maybe a hair wider on the MMB's. Blade length is the same. The soles are a touch narrower on the MMB's. The back of the iron heads are much cleaner than my cobra's. I'm looking forward to trying them out. I have a little wait yet but will be travelling to warmer weather soon enough.

Got my chrome 6 mmb iron in and it looks awesome. Got the MPF shaft and have to agree with AZstu that it looks awesome. Have it glued up and just have to wait 24hrs... What moron buys 24hr epoxy?

Any updates on the MPF shaft?

Well after trying to get back into golf late last year after playing only a handful a times the past 8 years I realized my swing is horribly inconsistent so comparing two shafts is not my strong point. When I hit it well it feels really good and I love it. I've been hitting it beside some adams pro a12s with kbs tour 120s and don't feel a huge difference other than being lighter and faster. I tried to compare ball flights but my swing is just too inconsistent to get a good feel of what's going on. If your on the fence I'd definitely check it out.

I liked it enough on my good shots to go ahead and order a MMB Black set with the MPFs installed and now I'm going to go practice a lot and get a few lessons.

Just curious, does soaking these heads in acetone to remove paint-fill do anything to the finish? Also, what paint are you guys using to fill?

Mr. Wolfe

Acetone will not affect the DBM finish. No need to soak. Acetone on a q-tip will take the stock paint off quickly and easily.

I used Testors enamel for paint fill and it turned out perfectly both times. I initially used metallic copper and then changed to all gloss black, both look great and enamel is very durable.

Soaking shouldn't hurt the finish. Just be careful that the ferrule doesn't get soaked or it can melt. I just poured acetone in a dish and went around with cotton swabs. It takes about 1-2 minutes per club. You will also want to give a good full rub with some rubbing alcohol to catch any other bits of dirt and it helps clean the remainder of the dried acetone off of the club as it can leave a film.

As for paint, I started out with Testors Metallic Silver and loved the look.. But when I went to clean the clubs after 2 days, some of it peeled from the numbers.. in addition I found that it doesn't react well to WD40 or rubbing alcohol. I'm sure I just didn't let the paint sit long enough to cure as it takes a few days and I just don't have the patience to wait that long. Then I tried some multi-surface good quality Silver metallic Acrylic paint (Michaels or Hobby Lobby for around $2).. but found that it doesn't adhere very well to the finish either and found bubbles and peeling a day later.. so finally I tried some regular satin acrylic and mixed a flat nardo grey from black and white which looks better than white but not nearly as good as metallic silver. So far that seems to be the magic solution as it's dried and seems very durable. I may go back over that with the metallic silver to see if that sticks a little better as the metallic just looks so nice.

You may just need to do some trial and error like I did. The good thing is that you can fill and remove as much as you need to and the finish will be fine.

When using the Testors, how long did you need to wait for the paint to cure? I used the Testors Metallic silver which at first looks amazing and then when I went to clean it with a toothbrush, some of the paint came out. So I painted again, waited a couple of days and then went over with rubbing alcohol and it appeared to have a bad reaction with the finish. I'm just wondering if I didn't wait long enough to cure. If that's the case, I may just redo with the Testors and have my wife hide my clubs for as long as is necessary for them to cure so I don't mess them up.

Maybe try washing the clubs with soap and water after the acetone and then hitting them with a hairdryer or microtorch to ensure they are really dry (microtorch is recommended as you can really see the surface water come off the club). Sometimes acetone can leave a film on surfaces and weaken adhesion. I haven't removed the paint on any of the diamonized finishes yet so I don't know what will work best yet.

I intentionally painted them on a Sunday and Monday evening, knowing I'd be playing them on the following Saturday. I carefully wiped off the "excess" paint with acetone about an hour after applying on each head and then left them alone to air dry for what turned out to be 5 days for the short irons and 4 days for the long irons (I did half the first evening and half the next day). I used water and a nylon brush to clean the clubs after the round and the paint looked like it was freshly applied.

I figured it probably went something like that. I literally might have to hand my clubs over to my wife to hide for a week. but that might just open up a whole other can where she starts taking them away when I'm in trouble... :P

I think they'd be fine at 3 days. I think 2 days might be pushing it with enamel.

Good part is, if you get impatient and and up with one that peels, it's an easy fix. The paint on the back of the club will be fine either way because it's not getting slammed into the dirt at 90mph. Just don't go scrubbing on it until it's had 3+ days to cure.

curious if I wanna add a 3iron to my repetoire and i game the MMB Black....do I go DBM 3i or MMB 3i?

Which 3i is more forgiving / easier to hit?

Im guessing the TE/DBM will launch higher but which is more forgiving?

I couldn't recommend the KE4 your 3h enough. It will fit in well with any of the darker sets. The head is a beautiful minimal hybrid shape and the performance is superb. Works beautifully in any lie and is very workable for all types of shots. Honestly the KE4 3h package with the MPF Pro shaft for $55 is almost criminal.I play the DBMs and here is how it compares with my 4I.

Dont want a hybrid...have a cobra f6 3h which is boss. I want a 3i or a drivin iron to keep it lower

The DBMs have a slightly higher MPF so should be a little more forgiving. I'd also compare their offsets to your irons as one might fit better with what you have. They are hard to find but if you can locate a KE4 HDI driving iron they are pretty sweet as well.
