Still playing Nike Vapor Combos?

Been looking to pick up a set of VPC for a few months now, but cant find a set with extra stiff shafts in them on the bay. Might see the occasional DG Pro X100 shafts, but not a fan of the Pro series of shafts.

Don't suppose anyone has a picture of the topline of the VPC irons, particularly with a ball for reference?

My vpc irons came 2 weeks ago, and was able to test it on the field. The shafts do feel stiffer but rzn inserts do help hitting it further, so the carry distance are very similar to my vapor pro stiff irons, but these have tighter dispersion.

And I just finished my vapor pro mmproto project as well. These look awesome.

Mine are still in the bag. I can take a photo later and post. I still think the VPC shape, look from address and liveliness are among the best around. They play great. It is a set that I can play the 4 iron in with no problem.

OP here: ended up getting a deal on PXGs I could not pass up. Only issue is they came with shafts that dont work for me. Played two rounds with them and had to sent them in recently to get them re-shafted. While I wait for the reshafted PXGS I've played two rounds with my VPCs which are now my back up set. Ohhh my, my rounds with them reminded me how good these are. I almost don't want to play with the PXGS when they arrive. Those who have these don't ever sell them! "I WILL NEVER SELL MY VPCs....I WILL NEVER SELL MY VPCs...I WILL...lol

I cannot agree more! I have a set of PXGs and a set of Mizzy MP5s, but I will always, always keep my Nike blades and VP / VPC sets. They are fantastic. And it feel so good to break them out every now and then, just to be reminded of how awesome they are.

The reason I actually don't game them regularly, is actually kind of silly. I know they don't make them anymore, so want to preserve them and not bash them up too much... :)

I’m keeping the faith that Nike will release more irons someday. That being said I’m assembling two backup sets of VR Pro combos just in case ;)

Don't suppose anyone here played the VRS Forged and can comment on main similarities and differences?

They do not play like they have a lot of offset. To me, the offset is very comparable to the Ping i200 or i E1 (same on those two) and the Nike is more compact and a shorter heel to toe. For above average players and better, it is a nice combo of player’s look with well designed help.

Other irons come and go, but I keep these around. Give them the MM Proto treatment and you’ve got a timeless looking iron that performs. The RZN injected heads (yes PXG, it was done before you did it) in the long and mid irons provides a great feel at impact.

I still have my Oven VRS Forged and still play the VPC. The VRS Forged is a bigger club...more offset, longer toe-to-heel, and thicker top and bottom. That being said...I don't see a difference in forgiveness between the two sets when looking at 6-P. The 4 and 5 iron is a little easier to hit in the VRS Forged. Workability is better with the VPC.

after several rounds going back and forward between PXGs and VPCs I just sold the PXGs...nothing against them; I just hit the VPCs so we'll it doesn't make sense to try and fall for anything else. It's like that old girlfriend you know you should have stayed with...good thing I got the PXGs used and didn't lose $$$...starting to think back up set of VPCs?

I have my VPC but I’m looking at swapping them out for P750s.

Anyone have a comparison?

Keep the VPC, buy the P750 used, and you’re all set. You’ll be able to make a real comparison AND still have your Vapor Pro Combos when you sell the P750’s.

Currently still gaming my VPC’s, can’t find anything comparable.. has anyone made the switch from Vapor pro combo to vapor pro? Debating if I want something a little more blade like.. more specifically in the 6i or 7i to PW?

Side question, what’s the proper term for what the vapor pro combos? Cavity back? Muscle back?

Titleist TSi3 8° - Ventus Black 6TX

Taylormade Stealth 5w 19° - Ventus Red 8TX
Nike Vapor Pro Combo 3-GW - Project X LS 6.5

Titleist SM9 54° D Grind - Project X LS 6.5
Taylormade MyHi-Toe 60°/10° - DG S400 Tour Issue

On your main question - my set has always been 3-6 VPC and 7-P Vapor Pros (all MM Proto-ed of course!) I have the longer irons in VP but the VPC are so much better and longer, so I use them until the 6i. Have not had any issues with gaps or change in feel from VPC to the VP to the engage wedges.
