Still playing Nike Vapor Combos?

jklcmo

Recommended Posts

Currently still gaming my VPC’s, can’t find anything comparable.. has anyone made the switch from Vapor pro combo to vapor pro? Debating if I want something a little more blade like.. more specifically in the 6i or 7i to PW?

Side question, what’s the proper term for what the vapor pro combos? Cavity back? Muscle back?

In regards to the 2nd question; what I've read is 3-7 cavity, 8-GW Muscle Cavity

I have my VPC but I’m looking at swapping them out for P750s.

Anyone have a comparison?

I traded my first VPC set on the P770. After 6 months sold the P770 and purchased another set of VPC. Still have the VPC , just tried the I200 and 718 AP2. They didn't do enough to unseat the VPC either.

I’ve been after P770s for months. Really thought that would be the iron to knock out my VPCs. We hosted a demo day with TM last week. I kept hitting the 770 with different shafts and never really found a good combo. VPCs won out every time. VPCs felt better...gave better numbers...and was easier to flight.

Thanks everyone!

I just sold off every set I had(7 sets) but one....the Forged Black Tecs. Took me 7 weeks to clear house and commit to theRef Blacks.

However........

Thanks to this thread, I now have a set of Vapor Pro Combos on the way;-)

I want to share that I had an eagle with my VPC 5i last weekend. I recently grabbed an extra set of VPC x-stiff TI. I hit 315 yds drive down the hill with my VFP limited Driver, then I hit 5i from 185yds rough, landed 3.5 ft to the pin and I putted for an eagle. Before the round started my friend's friend was questioning me about still playing Nike clubs (He had M4 driver). Well, the eagle showed him why I'm still playing Nike club, and VPC and Vapor Pro irons will be in my bag for a long time.

Did 770s launch entirely too high?

I won’t say they launched too high. Just very inconsistent. And I didn’t like the feel at all.

I brought the 9i,7i, &5i with me to the course yesterday. Mind you I picked up a near new 4-PW set for a steal but not in the proper shafts (DG Pro r300). I was playing my p750s in ns pro 120x and striking them very well. On open holes or lay up par5s, I swung easy with the VPCs to avoid fading or out right pulling them. First club was a 7i about 168yds out and it was pure. I was not expecting such a feel from the VPCs. Im a high launching ball striker and the ball launched smooth off the face. The sole of the VPCs is what really impressed me. I was able to pick the ball from our firm links course without digging or trapping the ball too hard, enabling me to fully release the club head.

I went on to hit 140yd shots with the 9i and a 185yd layup with the 5i. Same results! Again, the performance is there. Im really thinking about putting in some kbs tour x130s to have a smoother swing or x100s to attack the ball and lower the flight. The NS pros are just too expensive at the moment even though they compliment ball flight.

Really really impressed with the VPCs.

Great writeup and sounds familiar to me. I have the s300 DG Pro in mine and I really would like to try these with the Modus 120 or even the 105. Feel off the face of the VPC is one of its best qualities and it would be fun to try them in a lighter, smoother shaft.

I have a set of Kbs tour 130x that I am going to stick in my VPC this week. I'm excited to see how they preform. Do love the feel of these clubs.

I keep looking at other irons (i210s, i500s, waiting on 919 Forged), but still have the VPCs in the bag. Don’t really see it changing with baby #2 coming in Dec.

Do need some repair work on the 6 iron though. Developed a rattle in the shaft. Or I could leave it and let the baby use it. Epoxy tinks up and down the shaft perfectly. Just can’t let him chew on it.

Hit the Mizuno 919F and you'll forget all about them. Ironically, Nike seemed to have been the first to add more weight toe side to get the CG more central, and the 919F has that mastered as well. Played the VPC's a couple seasons back and really liked them, but a custom fit set of 919F blows them away.

Can you see the back of any of the forged irons at address?

I was just at GG today too getting a new putter grip on. I checked the JPX HM and could see the back of the 4 iron but failed to check the Forged (doh!).

Having always played the undercut style iron (52’s 53’s 54’s VPC’s) the Forged seem like a natural fit. I just happened to hit the MMC’s and they felt dang nice too.
