Still playing Nike Vapor Combos?

The link to how to do this is on one of the first pages of this thread. See below. Follow the step-by-step from Bomber_11 and the clubs will look great. I would not pull off the badging. His method produces a beautiful MM Proto look.

Finished product. I decided to go with “Sunday red.” I was going to remove the badging but I actually think I like it, it’s symmetrical to the black lines above the cavity, which I wanted to leave as well to contrast the red. I still have to do a little touching up because if you look closely the PVD removal is still uneven. Some clubs were harder than others to remove. Otherwise though I’m pretty happy. Thanks for the help!

Looks really good! When my PVD starts wearing out, I am going to give them the MM treatment.

I would probably not get a backup set unless you’re the kind of player that never has a wandering eye (in that case what are you doing on golfwrx?).

i’m having an internal struggle over getting a set again to stash until i’m better, but that just assumes i’ll give better AND that i’m not gonna have a wandering eye (and don’t I already?)

Every time I consider getting something new, I just look at the VPC and it discourages me. Been eying some JPX 900, but cannot cheat on the VPC, so it is VPC for all of 18.

I am with you. I tried a couple of other sets, but none performed or felt as good to me as the VPCs. I am going to stop looking for other irons for while.

I am in the same boat. I love them so much! Don't believe everything in my sig... I might pick up another set for giggles and because of how well they perform for me. I agree maybe 4 years down the line something else will come out that will make me say "ohhh Vapor who?" but at this time, they're all I can ask for!

I agree. I actually sold my original set of VPC irons, but after a couple of months away, I found a brand new set on the internet and scooped them up, got the lies adjusted for me, regripped them, and my iron game came back.

I won’t make that same mistake again.

Just bought a set of used vpc that seemed to be pretty clean from 3balls. Going to get rid of the vapor pro blades as I don’t have the game for them. Debating on putting my modus 120x in or selling them and trying to snag a set of steel fiber 110x since my i200 px Lz 6.5 are firmly in the main bag and I wouldn’t mind a set of graphite irons to help when my wrist issues flair (have fractured my wrist 3 times from being a basketball player). I’m sure the black and volt will be deleted after I get my hands on the clubs as well

Just went back to something similar. These are Splits. In between the PC and Pro from 4-6 iron. Then it is Pro all the way down. Made for Paul Casey

I've been the same with the OG Blades since 2004, every time I look at anything else, I look back at the Nikes and can't believe I even thought of replacing them. Then you pure a 3 iron, and rather than spending money on new clubs it makes you want to spend the money on lessons so you can pure it more often. Haven't hit the VPC's, but I imagine it's a similar feeling.

With there not being a massive change in irons from year to year, I don't think there is any issue at all to finding a set you like and holding onto them until you've worn them out. Let's face it, you could probably get similar results from the OG Pro Combos from 2003, I reckon you have at least 10 years before the VPC's get too old to use. So if you like them, get those spare sets snapped up :)

I have some brand new heads just waiting to be shafted up and sanded down. Not sure they will be able to knock the 588cbs out of the bag but they sure willl be nice to look at.

Those 588 cb's were my white whale. I bought a set and they're still wrapped up. I love them and I can't bring myself to game them. Any differences between the two from your stance?

The 588s are noticeable smaller. I have never felt a softer iron then the 588s. The feeling of puring them is downright addictive.

If you hit the JPX 900 Forged, you won't be too broken up if you leave the VPC's behind - they are pretty awesome. That being said, the feel of the VPC's wasn't too far behind, which led me to go the Mizuno route after I sold my Nike irons. Tried the TaylorMade PSi for a while thinking I wanted max forgiveness (they are actually a really nice iron), but when I tried the Mizuno heads, it reminded me how much I missed that feel. Even better, the 900F has the slightly beveled leading edge and the additional mass towards the toe just like the VPC.

  • 2 weeks later...

I currently game Vapor pros. I had TW vr blades previously and I don't think I can get away from the blades. I really wanted to do mmproto diy on vapor pros, but keep the volt theme with my rest of 2015 Nike equipments, so I decided to get a set of VPC. Its only vpc from 3-5 and rest of irons were pros. So I found 6 and 7 vpc separately. I bought them with x100 shafts on them since I'm also speed training to increase my swing speed. Any thoughts on the shaft if it will change the feel of these irons? I currently have TT s300 on my vapor pros. I can't wait to try these vpc next week.
