I just know based off experience if it’s a course I’ve played before. I’ll say that tree is 175 to the middle of the green and I am like 10 yards on front of it so I am roughly 165 out. I am not good enough for exact yardage to matter

How do I judge yardage? Off the tee far is good, approach the green far is bad. :)

I use 3

Laser, yardage book (at certain courses), and sprinkler heads. I really wanna know what the front is and what the pin if its a front pin, if its a back pin, I want the middle, the pin, and the back of the green.

On the tee? GolfShot on iPhone. Use it for bunkers, water, hazards, layup distances, etc.

Layups on Par 5s? GolfsShot on iPhone.

Approach into green? Laser to the flag. If it's an awkward distance, I'll use GolfShot on my iPhone for Front & Back of green distances. Same for par 3s.

I kinda miss the pre-technology days. Back playing in high school. Only having prior course knowledge and sprinkler heads/150 markers to go off of.

I've moved away from technology back to sprinklers and on course markers.

It seems like every weekend round, I've got a slow group in front of me.

It helps kill time. I can't stand just standing around waiting on people, need something to relax my mind.

I have a GPS but really only use it if its a new course to me, or I've hit it totally astray.

I grew up with red white and blue stakes in the middle of the fairway. Amazing, until you stripe a drive and bong one of those stakes and lose 30 yards. Nowadays I’m just happy with my bushnell laser.

Problem is too many courses are not sending the money any more for the numbered sprinkler plates. Guessing they figure everyone has a device so don't replace the broken plates with yardages. I've seen many blank sprinklers lately.

I have a small GPS and a laser. TBH, I don't bring the laser out much anymore. Why? I was just getting addicted to it, as well as being fooled by it, as in forgetting the middle of the green is always a safe distance. I much prefer the yardage markers on a well marked course. I keep the GPS in the bag, but really only use it on par 3s that are not well marked.

I only have a basic GPS (Garmin Approach G10) and I was wondering if a laser would be worth having too.

I only bought a GPS after I found quite a few markers missing on some nearby courses (as mentioned above some courses aren't maintaining them?). Also having distances for hazards & layups is handy, especially on new courses. And the G10 keeps score including putts, fairways & GIR. So I think I will just stick with my simple GPS, and mentally adjust for wind, elevation and pin position. I'm nowhere near good enough where a little better distance measurement device will make a consistent difference. Thanks!

I use my Garmin S20 99% of the time to measure. I do pull out the laser maybe two or three times a round. I mainly use my laser now when I'm at the range to measure target flags, etc.

GPS, feel lost without my Garmin S3 during a round. Ease of use (just look down at my wrist), ability to move the flag around, and keep score a big plus for me.
