Adding strike sound at Sentry TOC

Jeez. Now I have to watch the rebroadcast.

I can’t fathom why they would take the time and effort to do it, but some of you guys sure seem convinced.

You honestly think some guy is in a TV production truck adding impact noices? Hum. Weird and tedious.

The audio of the Leishman clip sounds like that particular strike made by Leishman and recorded in that particular manner.

Please watch the video I posted. That strike sounds identical to the other two I noted.

We see handheld parabolic mics all over the course and stationary mics at every tee and green; that is where the audio comes from.

And in the clip I posted, all three instances of the identical sound being played show no mics in the vicinity.

The theory being advanced would require that either the mics are just for show and NO audio of the strike is real, or that someone in the truck decides during the seven-second delay which strikes are inadequate and pushes the appropriate button at approximately the right time to replace the mic audio with the drop. And then back to the mic to catch the player's comments. And this elaborate ruse gains what?

No, the theory being put forth is that, for some reason, a handful of shots were for some reason "dubbed". I agree, its completely asinine and I see absolutely NO reason to do it, and yet there it is, three identical strike sounds in three instances where no mics were visibly nearby that sound completely 100% different than any of the other shots that were obviously captured normally. I've watched all the extended highlights from the Sentry tournament (I normally watch these things anyways) and everything sounds completely standard throughout all the footage i've seen EXCEPT those three shots I pointed out earlier in the thread. I know audio, I know mics, its my job, and as you can see my first reaction was "this is silly, they wouldn't do that" until I heard the clip that was incredibly obvious. For SOME reason those shots have strike sounds added, not replaced btw, because I believe there was no audio for them to begin with due to no mic being present. Also regarding the "seven second delay" comment, obviously it wouldn't be practical or even possible to do anything in that time, but we know that they often show shots that were recorded earlier, sometimes several minutes earlier, which was likely the case here. If you sent me a 15 second video clip, I could have a stock sound added to it, re-export it, and send it back to you in ~30 seconds and I am NOT setup to do that very quickly.

And by the way, if you want to talk about "nerd", I ripped the audio from the youtube video, put it in Logic Pro, and cut out those three strike sounds so I could play them back to back rapidly. They are the same, which is impossible if they were actually recorded live.

Listen to the Leishman clip above and then this (clearly an iron) shot from Phil Mickleson today. That is the exact same stock "metal wood" sound being added for some reason.
