Ok gonna get flamed but oh well.....I love the Masters but...100% enjoy watching the Open more.

 

1) No Jim Nantz

2) The live broadcast is at night / early AM so I can watch uninterrupted.

Of all the majors, the British Open is the least attractive to me. I don't think the British courses are as nice as the American and I really dislike the time it's broadcasted. I also don't like the fact that it is just called The Open, instead of the British Open, it gives the feeling of haughtiness on the British side.

 

OK, I'm going to stand up for The Open here.

 

The courses may not be 'nice' but that is how, more than any other major championship course, this crazy game is meant to be played. Take these little darlings out of their comfort zone and give them a test.

 

I don't think we can do much about the time, maybe we should put floodlights up at the old course to appease you?

 

It is called The Open and will always be known as The Open. It's official title is The British Open in the same way The Masters official title is The U.S. Master. Now if you look into it we also have a tournament called The British Masters and we are happy to call it that was we respect the tradition and long standing place The U.S. Masters has in golf history. Wouldn't hurt for people to remember it works both ways.

The schedule says that the gates open at 8 AM on Thursday and, historically, the first group goes off at 8:00 AM. So can patrons not see the first group tee off? Seems strange.

If you get to the get at 8 you’ll not get in until about 830. If you want to get in around 8, I’d plan on getting to the gate around 730ish. The first tee is about a 5 min walk from the main gate

Went Thursday last year. Factor in time for the opening tee shot ceremony too. You’ll be allowed on the course earlier than 8am for sure. I don’t recall exactly what time the gates to the golf course opened though. If it’s your first time, you will go through the security gate and scan your badge and all that first, then walk a bit of a ways toward the actual course entrance where there is the merch building and concessions.

 

There is what id call a second “gate” right by the famous main scoreboard. Last year we waited at this second gate for a bit on Thursday before they let folks actually on the golf course. It was a mad dash to the first tee to see the ceremony. No running of course...

1. Masters is the greatest yearly regular event on the tours. I have them recorded and can re-run them forever.

2. The tournament is not perfect. It has it's flaws

a. Like every tournament, if anyone becomes a runaway winner, that takes away a lot of the pleasure. And even more at the Masters, for some reason. IMHO. Last 9 holes should be a battle. Like last year with Sergios comeback on 13 onwards. Or ´86.

b. Last years, there has been too much focus on the players. Around 2005, still the focus was on the tournament as such.

c. The last two holes does not live up to the standards of the rest of the last 9 (ok, 14th is nothing fancy either). Especially since the Eisenhower tree blew down. They were not designed to be a grand finale of a great round of golf. I wish something could be done to add some zest to those last holes.

3. I cannot wait for it to start.

My first memory of Kuch is when he was low amateur at the Masters, must have been sometime around 2000, looking like (and here I strive for anglican words) the dream of an academical mother-in-law...

But has he done really good at the Masters since? Not that i can remember. And he´s no barbed wire eater either.

That said, if he wins, I will applaud it unless in battle with one of the scandinavians.
