Does anyone have a good solution between Reston and Capitol Hill for this problem?

 

I passed on Hidden Creek earlier in the Summer (their range isn't the best), but that could be the value play at this point.

I don’t know of many driving ranges inside the beltway. If you consider something closer to 66 then Oakmarr (https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/golf/oak-marr/practice) range might be an option. There used to be a place in Annandale called Pinecrest but haven’t been there in over 15 years, not sure if they have a range there, looks like it’s limited though it looks like they have indoor track an setup - https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/golf/pinecrest/practice.

Wrong side of town and still too expensive. Was hoping for an “unlimited balls for $1000” type of deal. 
 

I’ll probably just see what specials Hidden Creek is running

If you have base access Andrews has a deal. Or put in for base access for a year.

For anyone interested... Under 34... Hidden Creek was $250 initiation + $220/month for the first year, going up to $340 after the first year, with a minimum year commitment. Includes spouse.

 

$150/quarter for food/bev, a few hundred for range balls, $1500/year for a cart.

 

I need to call to make sure this is still the deal... but it's a steal. Comes out to under $400/month all in.... considering I've spent $215 this week... it's the "value play"

I havent been back in a long time, I played a B team match there and it was not my favorite. Although I admit, I do hate places that just nick you with fees on fees on fees like that - after the first year all that stuff adds up to over $500/mo after all is said and done?

 

But...they make you pay a range fee there? That feels like the final kick in the junk unless they have built a new facility since I was there, the last time I was there it was playing about 150 yards.

I was there a few years ago, you had to take a cart to the range, which was in the middle of the course somewhere. We didn’t bother and just hit some putts before teeing off.

Reston National says its $7k/yr for unlimited golf, range, cart (7 days/wk) - which is roughly the same after year 1 as HC. 

 

Look, to me - to me - there's no question RN is a better track/range. But its all up to you, if you like HC better then thats all that matters.

The Montgomery County courses are now charging a 1.99 booking fee? I guess this is a good thing as it should hopefully open up more times but annoying they keep raising prices.

I saw topic of that fee come up on Reddit's r/MontgomeryCountyMD, but they seem to say that it comes from the Chronogolf app, but not the Golf MCG app?

I booked Hampshire Greens last week through the MGC website which links to Chronogolf and was not charged the fee.

Well, no evidence for it anyway that I can see. I'm conflicted over the possibility, it would probably stop some of the hoarding of tee times but I think it would have to be higher than $1.99.

Welcome to the hectic DMV!! I'm in MD out in Frederick. So, I'm not way up on golf in NoVa. In that area there are some upscale private courses. 

 

A little further out going west on 66 there are some public courses. If you're into tournament golf the Virginia golf association has a lot throughout the year.

I was out in Frederick area too, great area for good golf. 

 

I live in NoVA now and have only played a handful of courses. I really liked Laurel Hill and Bull Run. Havent gotten out to some of the others yet.

I just left this area, and I miss it.  From Alexandria it's a fairly quick trip down 95 to Lorton, where you have Laurel Hill (beautiful course, very long from the tips) and Pohick Bay (like a hike through the woods--pretty narrow, lot of doglegs, but really will grow on your if you play it a few times, and the grounds crew does a great job).  Nearby, Greendale is close by and nice for getting some swings in (but otherwise not too remarkable).  Shoot over the Pinecrest for a fun, short 9, and take advantage of their Trackman studio (bookable on their website).  Non-muni options with checking out are Potomac Shores and Westfields, and Stonewall is worth the drive.  Feel free to shoot me a DM if you want to chat more.

I live in Fredericksburg (work for DLA at Fort Belvoir), if you are willing to drive a bit there are plenty of beautiful golf courses in the area, in the Fredericksburg area you have Medal of Honor (Quantico) no the greatest but a test for sure, Forest Greens just got renovated and it is in great shape, further south Pendleton Golf Course (kind of links style course), Mattaponi Springs (long, challenging, but beautiful), closer to your area, I would say, Westfields (just amazing), Twin Lakes (2 courses, Oak trail and Lakes), Prince William GC (short but the greens are the defense mechanism), Swan Point GC (really nice), others a bit out from you location (Dulles area) Blue Ridge Shadows, Slyfox (theses are located in Winchester, VA... South Wales, Lake of the Woods GC (Locust Grove), Gauntlet GC, Somerset Farms (short, good for practice, not expensive), again, plenty of options, depending on weather you can play all year round...
