Yeah its usually just been too much of a crapshoot conditions wise to make that kind of drive. Had a blast there though the last time we had a group up.

@misplacedtexan83 @gsrjc got my irons back from TWG. Tyden did a fantastic job with the install. A+++ will visit again.

That was poor timing in a way, haha. 

 

But I wanted to do it that way for the science. Needed a proper before and after in the same heads, but I guess I could have waited for the Cobras to do that. 

 

Call me sentimental, but the TMs needed to be "redeemed" with the Axioms first. These King Tours with the $-Taper are already sweet though.

Tours are 4-7, CB 8-PW. That was what one of the Fuji staff had, so I had already gotten to see these in person. These are such nice irons, but it was a very close call between these and the Titleist T100, esp considering with the new ones out, people will start to offload the previous generation.

Posted in the Fuji thread too, but really enjoyed the first range session with the Axioms. Just need to get out with them now, but weekends have been packed and tough to find time off from work these days.

Has anyone been fitted at Second Swing in Columbia lately? If so do you recommend a particular fitter?

Kevin Kraft, he is 100% absolutely worth the time/money. I did a driver fitting there in '22 and I'll be going back probably this offseason to run through it again and maybe get the whole bag tuned up. Believe he's their master fitter - corporately - and I learned a lot.

 

Just to give you a feel for the kind of guy he is too, when the fitting started he said look we have hundreds of stock shafts here that are all great. Unless you specifically request a $500 upgraded shaft, I'm going to find something stock for you.

 

For reference, its a little over an hour for me to get there, 90+ min to get home in rush hour - and I drive by a lot of good fitters on the way there.

Second Swing has gotten a lot of my business in the last few years. Good folks and good service, especially with their mail in trade-in stuff.

That's good to know....I've definitely wanted to get fitted for driver especially now that I got fitted for irons and how well they are working.

 

Also really good to know that's he's not about trying to sell you an upcharge shaft and will try to fit you with something stock that will fit just as good.

Let’s be honest y’all.. stock shaft will fit majority of people. Can count on one hand.. when a “exotic” shaft made a difference in a fitting.  
 

Always fun to try but make sure you have numbers on each head/Shaft combo to make sure there is a difference

You said it right there though..."stock shaft will fit majority of people".  We're not majority.  We're elite....creme de la creme if you will.

 

But in all seriousness...the stock options of the Tenseis, PX HZRDUS, Diamana Kai'li, etc. are really good and the difference between stock and exotic are usually just a couple of hundred RPMs spin wise.  Feel of the shaft is subjective, but we all have our preferences and biases. 

 

I'd love to have an exotic shaft like the Obans, etc... but if the only difference I'm getting between that and a Kaili white is 300 RPM, I'll gladly take the $300-500 in savings and use that for something else.

Martin Borgmeier uses a women’s flex 😏

 

1 degree down in loft can equal 300-500 rpm less and  1-2 degrees of launch. 
 

However, ply the shaft that feels the best and lets you do what you want with the driver.  Always good to go head to head just make sure you have the swings to do it. So they all get a fair shake.
 

Don’t forget usually only about 14 driver swings in a round unless you are reteeing

Actually disagree. I got fitted for new irons early this year. I tried 6-8 different iron shafts and it came down to only 2. The others didn’t do as well and there were some that I completely couldn’t hit. Same stiffness, same weight. Could I have learned to hit them over time? Sure. And I may have to change my swing as a result. Would I want a shaft that matches my swing and timing better? Absolutely the goal!

What are you disagreeing too?

 

Said majority stock shafts fit most (added this part —> but not all. 
 

And try every combo but make sure to have numbers to show you the difference. A lot of it comes down to feel as well

Most irons these days you'll have at least 3-4 options that are considered "stock" but you definitely have to make sure you pick the right one. Matching up the behavior of an iron shaft with your lie angle is critical.

I'll echo this recommendation for K-Kraft!  I've had a driver, putter, and iron fitting with him and sent numerous friends his way.

 

Driver and putter fitting were great.  Never pushed anything exotic unless I specifically asked and saved me $180 on the putter by finding the same model used (9/10).

 

As for my iron fitting - I hit every head and shaft combo and landed on T100S with project x 6.5 (which I had in my irons at the time).  Just for fun after I had decided to buy the T100s he told me to wait a few minutes and disappeared with my then current set.  He came back 10 minutes later and told me to hit my 7-iron again.  I hit stripe after stripe, with average carry just 2 yards shorter than the T100s but with a slightly tighter grouping.  He said if that 2 yards in carry was worth $1500 then he would happily sell them to me but I could also just pay $35 to have all of my irons bent to correct specs (for reference, my 7 iron was 3 degrees weak and 2 degrees flat unbeknownst to me).  

 

He is a shining example of a good fitter. Bonus is that he's an absolute stick and you get to listen to his stories.

I must have had 200oz of water during the round at Bulle Rock today. We also found out that the course just gave up on water jugs and would rather sell you water from the cart girl. 
 

a little soggy all around, the course played very long and tough. It’s in great condition right now. It never ceases to impress me how they manage to keep so many bunkers there in great shape all the time.
