I would love to join a club but with my son being less than 6 months old it would be hard to justify because I just won't be able to play weekly/multiple times a week like I used to. Maybe when he gets older.

I joined a club 2.5 years ago for a few reasons. 

 

1). The cost was getting ridiculous. 

2). The rounds took way too long 

3). I can go hit balls play a few holes whenever. 

Now I will say the dues are getting out of hand.  Most are above $500 a month. That's steep. Especially is you don't play a lot. 

 

Might be time to become a boater...... 😲

Yeah, we joined a club about the same time, and it's been awesome.  If my wife and I played the public courses as much as we do at our club, it'd cost us more money.

 

But I'm still playing in a weekday 9 hole league at Falls Road and Needwood.  I've been playing with those guys 15 years or so, so I didn't want to just leave.

For the money, you get a place that's always there and practice facilities ready to go. On the rare occasions I've had time to play it's been Friday afternoons and sometimes weekend mornings. I would not have a chance of getting a time anywhere else.

Any NoVA players use Merrifield Golf for club work or custom orders recently? Google reviews are good, but wondering if anyone here can vouch for their quality. Seems like a high end place with a good reputation. 

 

I know, Nick G at CC Rockville is still the best but it's kind of a ways for me.

My guess is his first reco is going to be Tysons West which is kind of nearby.

I know Merrifield has gotten great ratings in the past but I dont know much about them or who works there in the last few years.

Tysons West looks really nice, I need to check it out. The issue is they aren't a Fujikura dealer, which is what I need (I probably should have said that upfront). Merrifield and CC were the only options reasonably close and I worry about CC's timelines, plus the past reviews, and opinions of their business model.

 

Golfdom is on the list too, but they're hit or miss, in my experience.

Thanks. I was wondering why Merrifield was posting TWG pictures on their FB page some time back. I guess maybe I need to read captions next time. 

 

Seems that Merrifield is the leading choice for me.

Puppet. Just go see Nick G. I was there Sunday to test out the Axiom and you’ve seen my posts about it. You can ask him what he thinks based upon the data he got from me.

Lol did not realize you were local. We should compare notes once the shafts are in. I’m going to Merrifield to save myself the drive time. If I want to get more rounds in this year I need all the time savings I can get.

Yeah I’m local. I didn’t realize that until someone told me you got chosen to go out to fujikura. I’m sure we’ve somehow run into each other before through the HIVE golf events. 
 

For sure. I’m not sure when they will be in probably few weeks I imagine and definitely got to compare.

First time visiting the board in forever and see there was some activity.  Yay!

 

@Puppetmaster I'm sure you already have your shafts installed but I had my Fuji iron shafts done at Merrifield and thought they did an excellent job.  Everything was spot on.

Not yet, Fedex has been delayed. I was supposed to get them this week, but now it's pushed back to tomorrow. Not getting my hopes up until they are actually delivered at this point. 

 

So when are we going to Bull Run? 🙂

BTW someone asked me offline about the PXG fittings at their Fairfax store. IMO if you want to scratch a PXG itch, their current sale is pretty excellent. $12 for a one hour fitting I think through July 4th.

Well, for future reference, any traditional breakfast or french toast/waffle is good, plus "The Works" omelette and Skillet Hash. 

 

On a related note, we ended up at Bob and Edith's diner out close-ish to you off Rt 1 a few months ago, love that place for breakfast. Thankfully, there's another one closer to us in Arlington.

I wish I could say very soon but it will be a few months.  I'm pretty sure I tore my rotator cuff in my right shoulder about a month ago.  It's getting better but I still have a ways to go before I'll be back close to 100%.  I hope another month, maybe two, and I'll be back close to 100%.  PT is working, just not as fast as I want it to.  I'm definitely there once I get healed up.

Couple of us in here have had the same issue and it takes some time. Thankfully my tear did not require surgery but after a cortisone shot and 3 or so months of PT it completely healed.

Nice to hear.  This is my first go-round with a serious shoulder injury.  Definitely made some progress but it sucks being so limited.  I’m very hopeful mine will heal with time and pt.  
 

This is while getting older crap is for the birds..especially when your brain still thinks you’re in your 20’s.

Bulle Rock yesterday so nice. Hot and humid but still nice. Wish it was closer.
