Congrats on the ace!!!!!

IMO Whiskey has been the most overpriced/overrated course in the DC area for going on ten years now, maybe longer. Its not that I dont think its a good layout. But its not particularly walkable. Its fricking expensive. Terrible range. And on top of that - IMO - the greater Frederick area has the best collection of public courses in the DMV. There are just much better options if you are going to make that drive.

Thanks!!

And I agree with you 1000%. I live in Mt Airy so play the Frederick rota pretty regularly. Worthington is tops for me.

Sadly agree about whiskey. A friend of mine lives on the course and I play no and then. I really like it but I'm not paying their rates.

Anyone here a "member" at Worthington Manor? I'm think of doing a membership there. I've never seen it in bad shape.

Yes “member” at WM. But they don’t offer long term memberships anymore.
Whiskey wasn’t in great shape this year. Funny that Bandon winter rates are cheaper!

They still have yearly plans that look interesting.  The last three four years I've really enjoyed playing there. I have one day off every weekday that could make it worth it.

Just dropping in.

Sad but also not surprised to hear the commentary about Whiskey Creek. That place is a product of its own inflated ego. The course is fine but I never saw anything aside from the closing hole to make it worth what they were charging. As a golfer, I wouldn't choose it, but it would probably be where I'd take clients to golf if they were casuals.

If I'm driving out to that area to play my own ball seriously, it's Worthington 100%.

UMD is definitely in end of winter shape.  A week of warm weather will make a huge difference and it will be interesting to see how the course responds to the loss of all the trees last year.

Has anyone noticed that Waverly is now $109 on weekends?!?! I also heard that they no longer have any type of membership options. I know of 2 leagues that left there because of pricing. Stinking inflation.

I played umd on Wednesday for first time. I really enjoyed the layout and if I knew I could play more I'd take advantage of their junior membership but I just had a baby so joining a course wouldn't be worth it. Wish getting weekend morning times was a bit easier.

That's insane for Waverly. Blue mash has been 70 during the week no matter the time. Usually they have good twilight rates. I've mostly been playing Northwest and Hampshire and both are in decent shape for this time of year.

I hear Waverly and Blue Mash are now owned/run by Kemper Sports which means jacked prices. Same company that owns/runs whiskey creek I believe.

The idea that BM will now cost you $115-120 after taxes on a weekend is quite ludicrous. But I guess thats what the public market is in that area these days so it is what it is.

Yea, that is just ridiculously overpriced. Same group recently took over Timbers at Troy golf course in Ellicot City, they are charging the same price for that course which is far inferior to both BM & Waverly. My hope is that people wise up, leave these courses with empty tee sheets, and they are forced to improve quality, drop price, or both.

This is also why I just dont drive up there to play golf anymore. Even when I joined a place in NoVa years ago, I used to always drive up there several times a year - it was worth it. Cant say that anymore.

Timbers is the same as Blue and Waverly?  Holy too much for that course batman.  That's how I feel about musket ridge on weekends.

Luckily I get a discount to play whiskey as a member at Holly Hills. I also have a friend that lives on the course so that brings the price to zero. That's usually like 10/13 holes late evening.

Sidebar. The event at whiskey sounds like a blast.

Timbers is 107. f****** absurd! I guess this is why it's so hard to get a tee time at the MCG courses. Northwest is jammed all day every day.

All those price reports are a major bummer. It makes me a little less annoyed by dues increases since the tee times are way easier to get now. I was able to go out for 9 yesterday afternoon, no chance in hell I’d get a time anywhere else with that weather.

Part of our new fees went into a massive bunker project. While they were working on the bunkers, a few hole surrounds were turned into mown chipping areas and a few creative options turned up for playing a few holes.

The greens are still rolling like any other April but you can’t beat healthy  rough and fairways this early.

Golf Now at Eisenhower on Friday was $65, reg $85 I believe. Reasonable IMHO. UMD is $75 prime time on S/S. (Both courses really need some rain and not in peak shape right now). I am curious whether the Waverly, Timbers, Hwiskey rates will impact their volume. All around the MD area it seems that courses with lower fees are absolutely packed on weekends.

Jealous of all that lush green in your pics Goose.

I played UMD for the first time 3 weeks ago. Other than the aerated greens I thought it was in pretty decent shape given the time of year. I definitely want to get out there again I really enjoyed the layout.

The only "good" thing about price increase at Waverly and blue mash is you can make tee times a little closer to Saturday and usually get a decently early time.

This is Country Club of Maryland in Towson. Not to be confused with Maryland Golf & Country Club, or Baltimore Country Club haha.
