MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

I would buy a place at Greenbriar so I can work on my falconry during the winter.

Money can get you only so far. These elite clubs reject plenty of people with more money than that for even dumber reasons. You could at least buy homes in all the major destinations and build out a private club membership 'portfolio.'

I still would not buy a single PXG product.

I was looking at some of the scores for the senior open.

I mean, dude. . .what are you even doing? He followed up the Day 1 108 with a Day 2 98 (not posted yet). I guess he just gets "nervous" in big events and shoots 30 strokes higher than his average. Nerves will really do that to you. What a joke.

The 2nd score listed is an 80 on the same course as the 108.

One other thing that comes to mind...I would have a van that would be acceptable for a parking lot space at Bethpage gutted and converted into a comfortable sleeper, and I would make that trip often.

You aren't thinking big enough. You would have enough money to hire a guy to hold that spot down for you. Just show up at 5am and go off.

GTW: buying/building a course. it's a dumb dream, i know. who cares, it'd be awesome. how much do you think they'd sell pb dye, worthington & Hwiskey creek for? not just one, all 3. got the makings of a pretty good golf vacation, playing those 3 on consecutive days. plus, once officially "in the industry," i could get on pretty much any course in the world.

Domes, are you saying you would move to Pinehurst as your primary residence?

I think Hoop has the right idea here except that I would go with Carmel/Monterrey over Santa Barbara considering the breadth of world class courses around there and it's not unreasonably far from the Bay Area.

Assuming $200mil after taxes you could spend $50mil on real estate and club membership fees with a primary residence in someplace like Carmel or Southhampton, NY with vacation houses in Bandon or Pinehurst and/or Baker's Bay (if the island vacation is your sort of thing). I would look join a very good club in an area like that -- assuming I'd need to put in 10+ years of relationship building at least before a place like Shinnecock or NGLA or Cypress was even a remote possibility. Plus regular trips around the world to places like Scotland, Australia, etc.

I'd use the remaining $150mil to create a family office.

No, as much as I've daydreamed about doing it, I think I would go insane living in Pinehurst full time.

Philly would be a good primary residence with the golf they have in the burbs. But I would want to live inside the city (whatever city) if I have that much cash, and I want the commute to golf to be short, and that pretty much eliminates everywhere.

GTW: If I won $200m after taxes, the last place I would want to be is a place like Carmel where you can spend $25m on a house for the privilege of being just crammed in around other people. Could afford to visit and stay at the Lodge whenever you wanted though. Would probably buy one of those 10,000 acre ranches in Montana and have Coore/Crenshaw come in to design a 3-4 course spread. Maybe take on a handful of deep pocket members, just enough to keep the place running. Then buy a nice place in Pinehurst.

Or, just buy Pinehurst.

DC, you'll always be my favorite internet misanthrope.

This is the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me in this thread...

Domes did you see Maydan I think made #5 in the Post dining guide this fall?

Dan Snyders house is on the market for a cool $49 million. Then you are less than 20 minutes to Congressional, Burning Tree, TPC, and Falls Road. That's a pretty solid 4some right there.

I’ll sell ya my place for half that price. I’m in the same range of those clubs too. And we have a fancy, schmancy, newly remodeled kitchen. Just sayin.

Don't sell your house short. It's also much, much closer to the Beltway than Dan's.

GTW:

First, pay off parents house and help cash flow any improvements they want. Then I’d help my sister with her needed improvements.

Following that, look at my own house somewhere. Maybe near hWhisky, or somewhere similar and close to a golf course.

Park the rest in Roth IRA’s or Mutual Funds and do whatever. Maybe start an Indoor Golf Simulator idea with multiple Hitting Bays, all with Trackman and have the availability to either use a simulated Driving Range or play a simulated course. This seems like it would work especially in rough winter areas.

IRS is going to have a field day with 827 after he tries contributing to a Roth IRA after making $200 million. But if they don't, he should get a solid 35,000+ years of investment out of that.

Get it? Investment restriction humor. Ha ha.

They can try, but you can have a Roth IRA with a ton of money. Put it in a normal, turn around and pay the taxes to convert to a Roth. Got to love loopholes in the tax code.

rainy day? ha. 827 gonna make it rain. all the internet cam girls gonna be on his junk.

Nope.

A few music organizations might love me, though. Contribute to a few drum and bugle corps organizations, maybe help resurrect a corps in Ohio by paying their taxes and creditors.

I mean, 31 sets of golf clubs and memberships just about wherever is awesome and all...

Look at this guy with his backdoor Roth account inside info. I take back any snark from my original post. Obviously a baller since thats something I only read about people richer than me doing.

Now you can get up to the regular IRS IRA limit, so youll be able to contribute it all in about about 10,000 years.

Hey, I wouldn’t be able to afford the Redskins or the Orioles, so not much else to do. Enjoy some, give some, save some.

Besides, my original ideas would only be in the first year after everything clears. You think I wouldn’t build a couple houses in other locations? I’d look at Bermuda, Arizona, and Myrtle Beach. Take monthly trips to Pinehurst until May, then check out Coeur d’Alene once or twice in the mid Summer, and take a trip roughly every June to Bandon.

Plus, at my primary residence, you wouldn’t know what I’d buy. Likely a few fun cars to take to Summit Point and Mason-Dixon, a sim racing rig, short game area in the back yard, indoor golf simulator, an indoor pool, and who knows what else.

Or, I might just say ‘F.T.S.I.O’ and move to OKC, get some cars, have them converted for racing and go race whatever I want.

Decisions, decisions...

I think someone mentioned this pod a week ago (maybe Chief), but the NLU pod with Max Homa is pretty good. Good stories about playing on the tours, but also about getting ready for events, practice, etc etc. And, he's pretty funny.

There's about a 2 minute stretch where they just ride Big Randy for about 2 minutes for missing a 3 footer. Homa is like, "I learned a lot that day, like just how much of a role the right hand plays in putting."
